A beautiful and informative book written by Barry Fretwell, a well-known English clematis grower and hybridizer whose nursery is located near Exeter in the Teign Valley.

Mr. Fretwell provides all kinds of details and advice on which varieties of clematis combine well with, for instance, climbing roses, other clematis, ground covers and perennials. He pays particular attention to the seasonality of clematis and makes recommendations for early summer, high summer, and late summer companion plants for precise bloom combinations.

And you will love the full page photographs of clematis accented with a variety of companion plants.

I was looking for companion planting ideas to add bloom color interest to our late summer garden, and Mr. Fretwell provided all kinds of guidance for me. This is a great book for both clematis lovers and those interested in unusual plant combinations for your garden.
