It is a nicely orgainized and well bound book of 155pp, many which have large, color photographs (there is at least one photo of every species discussed in the book). Each species is covered well including appearance, minimum cold tolerance, flowers, seeds, germination comments and other interesting information. The binding is excellent, typical of all the Betrock's books, and has an attractive cover. My only criticism of this book would be the 'tilt' towards cultivational information from an East Coast point of view (author is from Florida), making some of the discussion about cultivation and cold tolerance not applicable to west coast growers (eg. Californians). And there are many species not listed that have as much if not more cold tolerance than many of the species listed in the book. But I have yet to see an 'all inclusive' botanical book on any subject, so that's to be expected, I suppose. This is definitely a must have for any palm nut, or grower of tropical plants in less than tropical climates. |
