I bought this book, thinking I would learn about the care and culture of these plants. While the photos are breathtaking, and the author certainly was knowledgeable, this book is more of a catalog of what grows in Zone 10 than a guide to growing these plants in other zones. More disappointing was the sometime inaccurate information about some of the plants, those not personally used by Bar-Zvi in the gardesn he tended. If you live in a tropical or near-tropical zone and want a guide to plants and landscaping with them, this book will suit you very well.
This is a very comprehensive book of tropical gardening for those living in the tropics or not.Pictures are wonderful and every plant has explanations of how to grow in the tropics or in colder climates.
David was the chief horticulturist at Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami.Tragically,he died in the Fall of 2005 of cancer. His legacy is in the plants he cultivated and in teaching many many people the joys of growing tropical plants.David was a very good friend of mine as well as a teacher and mentor. He will be missed for a long time.
