When my father was in the hospital, his last days unbeknownst to me, I bought him this book. He was an avid and wonderful gardner, and I thought this would uplift him. He was unable to ever read it and I brought it home with me. The next year near the anniversary of his death, I began to read it. Now I wish I had taken the time to read it to him. There were many stories he would have enjoyed. Oh, well. I have enjoyed its many gifts and of course think of him and his wonderful gardening.
I would recommend it to anyone for themselves or as a gift. It is a great winter read.
I loved this book, and although I did not buy it (I read a library copy), I have considered getting it for friends to inspire them in their early gardening experiences. I would love a copy for myself as well. There are some truly wonderful stories in this book; a couple, of course, stand out more than others. They are comforting, inspiring, touching, and altogether entertaining. Highly recommended on a cool, rainy afternoon with a hot cup of tea.
