An excellent overview of the principles of natural landscaping with native plants in North America. It takes the "plant communities" approach to analyze the wild environments of the continent and recommend combinations of species based on region and local environment (woodland, prairie, etc.). I have only read the 1982 edition, but there is a much more recent edition available in paperback.
