I wish every gardening author wrote as well as Schenk. His humor and style demand that you read this cover to cover, and his suggestions for shade gardener are often unconventional and intriguing. I bet this book would be particularly valuable if you live in the Pacific NW, but it's been invaluable for me in New England as well. Two thumbs up!
Solid, thorough, and also eminently readable. I believe it's considered a classic on its topic. I sometimes grab a book with splashier pictures, but when I really want information about a plant for a shady spot, this is the one I trust.
