Our garden is in the woods and I find this book invaluable as a reference. I have had this book for over a year & still love it and refer to it regularly. He defines the different levels of shade, talks about soil and gives his thoughts on shade gardening. Then he gets to the perennials for the shady garden A-Z for (I believe) all of different zones for the USA. Spring, summer and fall bloomers. There is also an extensive section with COLORED PHOTOS! There is a section in the back for plant sources. Many if not most of the plants listed are not your average perennials. Some are native to the USA and others are not. So if you are looking for and want to learn about something different that will grow in the shade, then I highly recommend this book. The book is over 330 pages. This is my #1 book .
