The author has grown all of these plants for many years, in the presence of many deer. She only shares those that have proven to be 100% resistant to deer. I've tried many of these plants, since I used to be a customer at her nursery. My non-fenced garden is on a busy deer trail, with many a hungry deer gazing at my beautiful plants. I've found the plants in this book to be deer-proof. Other deer-resistant 'lists' have failed me (deer don't read these lists...).
For example, rudbeckia is considered to be deer-resistant on many 'lists' of such plants. The author has tried the different rudbeckias, and found that only one variety has been 100% deer-resistant. Perhaps the other varieties will survive moderate deer grazing, but if you are desperate, like I was, you'll want the right plant. Read the book to see which rudbeckia the deer don't eat, along with many other wonderful plants, and helpful instructions for planting and care. |
