If pastels and soft color schemes are your preference - this book may change your mind. If you are already a fan of bold color combos, and big, daring use of color it's right up your alley! Just a feast for the eyes, and the imagination! Sarah Raven really loves deep, sultry purples, dark crimsons, and oranges with lots of chartreuse thrown in to bridge the gaps and cool things down a bit. It is almost a coffee-table book, the photos are so rich, they just sizzle off the page! Neat book!
Sara's English garden is a plethora of reds, oranges, bright purples, lime green and cobalt blue. In recent years, the English think they have discovered something new in using these colors, which are traditionally Meditteranean. The book is beautifully illustrated with large photos. She writes well but more subheadings would have helped to sort out all the material. The perennials in her late summer section were largely mid summer bloomers. This is an attractive book with a lively, modern feel overall.
