A garden literature classic, and so I picked it up at the library to read at the beach this summer. I didn't get to the beach, but I did read the book and found it very soothing and relaxing to read about Mrs. Lawrence's modest garden adventures, her friends and her life as a small town newspaper garden writer in the south east.
Add this book to your reading list if you want to learn more about heirloom plants, the evolution of American gardening in the 20th Century and to 'meet' a nice woman who shared her garden knowledge with her newspaper readers and lots of other avid gardeners (including Katherine White of "Onward and Upward in the Garden").
