This update has many new species added, lots of great photos of many of them (not all of them... or even 1/3 of them, unfortunately). But at least the photos on the same page as the discussion of the plant. Very well organized with short blurb on etymology, description of each species, distribution and habitat, comments or notes, and cultivational information, including propogation comments. The first 1/5 of the book is a general discussion of cycad biology followed by a rundown of every species Dr. Jones had on his list (there are many more however, today). At the end of the book are lists of synonyms I found very useful, and a short rundown of all the fossil cycads known. It is a good quality hardback book with excellent quality photos- a nice compact size that's easy to read in bed and definitely worth the price. I highly recommend it as an addition to your cycad library (but not as the ONLY book to own on cycads). |
