This book offers good photos, planting tips and suggestions for plants that do well in Texas and generally southern climates. Covering most of the common plants it is a great book for the novice as well.
Beautiful pictures. A good reference for common trees, flowers, grasses, and shrubs. I use it to cross reference with Sperry's Texas Gardening Guide. The book does not cover as much ground as Sperry's TGG (herb gardening etc), but often has more detail on specific plants. Recommended.
