I have used this book for years. It is organized well and has a lot of easy to use lists. It has great tips for the Houston area which I'm sure would benefit anyone living along the gulf coast. I am hoping that it might be updated sometime soon as many new cultivars and plants are available that weren't so 10+ years ago. I would still recommend it to anyone interested in gardening and I frequently buy it for new home owners.
This is my favorite gardening book. I've used it for years and it's helped me to design gardens, select appropriate plants for our climate, and diagnose pest and disease problems. It has lots or beautiful color plates. A must have book for every Houston area gardener.
I LOVE this book!! Our Realtor, bless her heart, gave it to us when we bought our new house and it has been so helpful. It starts with very basic advice ("How Plants Grow") and ends with a year-round landscape maintenance schedule which is very useful. It is full of helpful illustrations, list of plants of all shapes and sizes, beautiful pictures and very practical advice.
The Gulf Coast has such a unique climate that it is hard to find gardening books that suggest plants that will thrive in it - or, more to the point, doesn't suggest plants that WON'T thrive in it. I highly recommend the "Houston Garden Book."
