I also find the use of chemicals as 'the' way to handle pests and diseases very widespread throughout the book. The author does very little to explore the use of more organic methods preferred today, however this might be related to the publication date (1999).

Secondly, I find spelling mistakes a distraction. On page 74, the book has a diagram of a vegetable garden and suggests planting 'beats'. Arrgghhh....

Lastly, I found the 3-column layout to be easy to read, but the use of small paragraphs alternating between normal font, italic font, and bold font to be annoying. I guess if you wanted to just read what the author found most important, you could look for these clues and skip the rest.

I checked this book out of my local public library, so no money was spent on my part. If you would like to read this book, please consider doing the same.

While the timing information is useful, I personally feel that this author pushes use of chemicals in the garden excessively. For virtually every category it is recommended to dump chemical fertilizers on frequently as well as use herbicides and pesticides for any and all bugs/weeds. In addition the tone of the book is written such that if you don't do as they say you are WRONG... which is not true, there are many ways to garden sucessfully, not just one. Don't waste your money on the book.
