For my amateur naturalist needs, this fills the bill. Its small enough to fit in a large pocket, with a durable plastic cover. It is organized by leaf shape but also has photos of bark, some flowers and fruit and dry fruits, and fall foliage. Then the text portion includes key ID points, sketches of branching, and maps of native range. Also included in the text are snippets of fun facts. There is no true "key" so you may have to guss and check on any 'new to you' trees. Overall this makes for a nice book to browse, for casual confirmation of your ID guesses, and for some added information about a particular species.
