Baton Rouge has a great variety of garden centers. As they each seem to have their niche, I shop a different one for each particular item I seek. Harb's is my choice when looking for items for my water gardens and fish pond, as well as for antique roses.
Harb's Oasis is the only local nursery with stock from the Antique Rose Emporium of Brenham, Texas. If you like to see your plants before purchase or you want to avoid paying the shipping charges, stop by Harb's to peruse their ARE selection (either location).
Harb's also is THE place to go in Baton Rouge if you want first-hand knowledge with care of your fish pond. They always have a good stock of koi and goldfish, as well as water testing materials, chemicals, pumps, lights and anything else you might need for your pond. Their prices are rather high for the pond care products, but the selection and advice are great. As I do benefit from the expert advice they offer, I believe in purchasing locally even at the slightly higher prices... simply as a thank you for the services they provide.
Harb's also carries an interesting assortment of plants... but I have found that sometimes the stock they offer is not appropriate to our area... so it's best to research unfamiliar plants before purchasing. Additionally, they carry a great assortment of pond structures, pots, fountains and garden art. Give them a visit; you'll be glad you did!
