For a nature park that's so close to downtown, this park is quite a gem. There are lots of trails that are well maintained even though there is no entrance fee. The native vegetation is identified. There's are several butterfly gardens. The pond is full of turtles. I understand that there are three different kinds in the park, but I only saw Sliding Turtles, but they were quite active and fun to watch. I was watching a turtle swimming toward me when I heard a noice right behind me. It was a harmless but beautiful Ribbon Snake. Bird watching was fun too with chickadees, Carolina Wrens, a Little Blue Heron, a Green Heron, lots of Cardinals and woodpeckers. The nature center and gift shop are also very nice.
