Information on Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge

This 10,000 acre refuge features birding, hiking and the largest cypress tree east of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Mississippi River floods the refuge for much of the year, generally from January to June, but after the water recedes, the refuge provides a beautiful hiking and birding area. Call or email ahead to make sure the water has receded sufficiently before your visit.
