The best thing about Laurelwood is that they let you walk your dog there. The worst thing is it is often closed for one reason or another. Don\'t go in winter or after any storms. They will be closed. They close for any kind of construction project.

Otherwise, it is a beautiful park inside the Pines Lake community in Wayne NJ. It is supported by the town and Friends of Laurelwood. Most of the land appears naturalized with interesting plants to be found interspersed among the self sown. There are some very nice vignettes, garden structures and many specialized areas to be discovered as you meander through the pathways.

There is no entrance fee and two small parking areas. There is even a bathroom in the newly built Knippenberg Center for Education which is sometimes available. There are more exercise enthusiasts and dog walkers than plant enthusiasts. I wouldn\'t come from far away especially since you can never tell if they might be closed but worth a stroll if you are nearby.

On a scale where NYBG may be excellent and Wave Hill would be great, I give it a good rating, especially because I can walk my dog there.
