Something is always changing, but the satisfaction of visiting McLaughlin is that it is clearly maintained mostly by volunteers. It shows what an ordinary person can do in the area. We visit it every Sunday after church and spend TOO MUCH MONEY on plants for sale. :-)
This place is an absolute joy to visit, whether you are shopping or just looking. Their display garden is magnificent especially, in my opinion, when you venture further back and up the hill to where the Trillium and Jack in the Pulpits hold court.
My family (in Maine, USA) and I (Massachusetts, MA, USA) have had excellent experiences with plants we've purchased here. Prices may seem a bit high to some but the plants are well worth it. My current collection includes Epimedium, Miyazaki Toad Lilies, Solomon's Seal, and Jack in the Pulpit, all of which have established themselves enthusiastically in my gardens here in Nahant.
The staff, in my experience, is friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly cares about both the plants and the customers.
