Ward's Landscaping & Garden Center is now under NEW ownership...the previous reviews about the "owner" do not apply. He is no longer the owner. Matthew Ward is now the owner and the plant quality and service is excellent.

Great products.
Absolute jerk for an owner. I've never seen anyone in any business with such a crappy attitude. I'd rather shop anywhere else. Anywhere. The quality of the product or the prices can't possibly make up for having to deal with an arrogant, egotistical jerk like Duane Ward. It is not a one time deal - that is who he is.

went to wards on saturday to look for a willow tree. mr. ward was right on top of his service to us along with his knowledge and friendly attitude. we left with the tree and various other plants. we did not have to lift a finger, everything was done in a very quick manner. if you want great plants at a very reasonable price take the short drive to summerville. keep up the great work mr.ward.
very respectfully,

Ward's is a great nursery to visit! It is family friendly and has a great selection of nearly anything. If Mr.Ward doesnt have it in stock, he will tell you when he probably will. I have read the other reveiws and disagree with all the bad ones. I admit, Mr. Ward can get huffy but if you were outside in 100 degree weather, humidity, sweat, dirt and who knows what else, what would you do if some annoying smarty came in? My family, neighbors, and friends all go there and are highly pleased with the service. The prices are the best around for a great plant. They specialize in crape myrtles (spelling?) but also have plants, shurbs, and other trees as well. I have many of their plants in my yard and they all do beautifully. They recomended my landscaper too! They help you find what you need and tell you everything about that plant, the type of flower, height, width, sun/shade, and type of soil. They make sure you know when to fertilize, water, and how to plant. Mr. Ward knows the soil type in every area (dont ask me how but he does) and can tell you what to do to make sure your plant grows right there(even if you dont have a green thumb!) I will only go there. Its a great place. Stop by and be AMAZED!

I second every word regarding the poor customer service, especially in regards to the owner, Mr. Ward (his wife is decent). He can be gruff and unhelpful and even offensive at times, other times he's fine. (He gave me a tongue-lashing once on a warm day for not immediately closing the door to the little office--my kids were out front with all the plants I was waiting for assistance to pay for). I've used this nursery many times though I'd probably prefer not to due to the service. If he's in a good mood and not busy he can be decent and helpful, otherwise watch out! He's a rough and tumble farmer type--he'd be more suited to working with conractors and not the public. I try to steer clear of him; I only return when I need to purchase a lot (we were landscaping our new home) b/c of the price of their plants. 3 gal. plants are about $11.95. They have Little Gem Magnolia trees for under $100. If you go, just go planning on helping yourself to some decent plants at a good price. If you need or like good customer service, go somewhere/anywhere else! When I just need a few plants, I really love Stacks off of Dorchester Rd. in Summerville (b/w Trolley Rd. and Bacon's Bridge Rd.): gorgeous plants and excellent, friendly customer service for a few dollars more per plant.

The owners of this nursery are not friendly...ever!! We've gone to their tree farm and was told that we should consider ourselves lucky that his dog didn't bite us. He asked what we wanted in a friendly manner but in the midst of telling him about our interests he cut us off with rude comments. His stock is nice but his service is terrible and if you are reading this please know that there are several other high quality, reasonably priced nurseries to choose from and you don't have to SETTLE for this business.

went to Wards today - 4/16/08 and was appauled by the rude foul language I heard. When I walked in I said a frendly hello and the owner - I assume - was writing on a piece of paper and I started to ask a question and he told me if I don't wait until he was finished with what he was doing he would throw my a-- ( the part of body you sit on ) out and I replied that you don't have to be rude. He replied you - meaning me - are still running your mouth. I told him there was no need to get piss- about it. He than told me to get the fu-- (yes the F bomb and told me to never come back. I was never rude, only wanted to purchase some plants and ask a question about my palm trees that I took digital pics of for advice. He was recommended by someone who recently did landscaping work. I am sorry I went and I recommend no one go there unless they want to be verbally abused. I also will not be using the landscaper that recommeded him either.

It started out good. As we are new to SC we had many questions and what started as a good experience soon ended as a very poor one. We spent over $600.00 and was treated as poorly as anyone could be treated. It was near quiting time so maybe the owner values his free time more then his customers. Quality of the plants was good, so if you know what you want and dont need any help this may be the place to go. We will not be back.

I have purchased several trees from Ward's. All have been healthy and done well. Best thing about Ward's is the service. They are very helpful and go out of their way to answer your questions or get you what you're looking for if they don't have it.

Also I should add that they are mainly a nursery for trees and shrubs. Only rarely have I seen annuals or perennials. They also have some good quality landscaping matierials, such as stone and slate.
