Per a note from the owner, thegurugarden.com has closed and will no longer offer retail online sales of seed and plants.

Company Comment, posted on October 4, 2003:
Patrick Studio Inc has been serving horticultural customers since 1975. Our business is comprised of two divisions, interior landscaping and retail sales.

Effective July 2005, we are no longer offering mail order plants however, we will continue to offer seeds to our mail order customers. Our plants can be purchased directly from us in Montreal or Ottawa or at garden centers throughout the Eastern and Southern Ontario as well as in the city of Montreal.

I’m somewhat disappointed with my seed purchase from Patrick’s Studio. I took advantage of their clearance sale in November, and ordered about 20 packs of seeds. The prices were fantastic, and I’ve heard such phenomenal things about the company, so I thought I’d give them a try.

The Dahlia Stargazers, which were not a clearance item, had at least 90% germination. The Dahlia Diablo, which were on clearance, only had about 50% germination. After 2 sowings, I had 0% germination from the Diascia Apricot Queen, Legouisa veneris, Silene Peach Blossom, Verbena Polaris, Viola Contessa, Delphinium Zalil, and Delphinium White Swan. I had about 20%-30% germination from my Lavatera thuringiaca and Campanula Chelsea Blue. The Lipstick Silver snapdragons were the only clearance seeds that had excellent germination.

I winter sowed the Columbine Tower Pink and Blue, Lupin Alamo Fire, Penstemon parryi, Salvia Swan Lake and Malva Purple Satin. I already have about 100 different types of seeds that have germinated already from winter sowing, but have not seen any signs of life from these yet. I’m not giving up hope on these though, as it is early in the season for my zone.

I guess I can’t be too upset as they were on clearance, but I certainly expected better results than I’ve gotten. I made a large purchase from Valueseeds, which I’ve heard are last year’s T&M stock, and I was expecting iffy germination from them, and so far have been ecstatic with the great germination from their seeds and the prices were even cheaper than Patrick’s clearance. Maybe when I’m not on such a tight budget I’ll try Patrick’s again (but certainly not the clearance seeds).

Marilena contacted me after hearing about my disappointing germination. She was prompt, courteous, and willing to do what she could so that my experience with the company was a positive one. She offered to refund my money or send me other seeds to try. I am very impressed with her care and concern and I am looking forward to trying the new seeds she will be sending me. I\'ll definitely buy from this company again. You just don\'t see this kind of customer service much these days. Thank you Marilena and Patrick\'s Studio!

I ordered plants from Marilena last year , when she was still sending plants by mail order, and recieved healthy vigorous plants. She is very friendly, and knowledgable! If I ever have a question about plants or seed, she's the one to ask, and takes the time. I now order seed from her , as she has unique and hard to find varieties, as well as the new varieties, at great prices! I recommend her company to anyone. Happy gardening Marilena!

I recently ordered seeds from them for the first time, I was very impressed in how prompt the delivery was, as the seeds were at my door in near record time. There was some substitution done on one type of seeds, and was not even charged for them. I really love the selection at their website, and will highly recommend them to anyone interested in unique perennials or annuals. Will definelty be a repeat customer.

After having started my seedlings this winter, am very happy with my germination rates - and will order again - a big thumbs up !!! : - )

My seeds arrived in a timely fashion. They look good, for what that's worth, and there is a decent number of seeds in each packet. They have a great selection of more unusual seeds, and that's where my interest lies--rare and unusual plants.

On January 20th, 2006, nevadagdn added the following:

I didn't pay much attention to the quantities of seed per packet when I ordered (and I got a lot of varieties on sale for 0.75 CDN per packet), so I was kind of surprised at how little seed there was per packet. When I went back and checked the published amounts, it wasn't a surprise any longer. I still got great value for my money--just that after sowing a bunch of Johnny's, Stokes and Chiltern packets I was accustomed to LOTS of seed per packet.
On January 24th, 2006, nevadagdn added the following:

The owner emailed me after reading my rating because she was concerned I hadn't received sufficient seed. Not to worry--I received at least the published number of seeds per packet, and that number just looks so tiny when the seeds are tiny as well! I received more than sufficient seed for my seed-starting efforts and I still think that the sale AND regular-priced packets were superb value for the money. I also have had a lot of fun sowing them and imagining the results later this year (and next year for some of the slow germinators)!
On January 29th, 2006, nevadagdn added the following:

Patrick Studios wins this year\'s germination race: A supposedly difficult-to-germinate variety was the first to produce a lone, tiny seedling. I\'m looking forward to many more :-)

I LOVE Patrick Studio!
I have ordered twice, and each time I have recieved personal attention, by name. That means a lot in this day and age. The seed germination was at a very high rate, and the selection couldn't be beaten.
Thank-goodness they have decided to continue mail order seed service for the time being - they sell so many thing I haven't been able to find (or at least at reasonable prices) elsewhere!!!

I ordered quite few a new species I couldn't find elsewhere, and I have never been so happy! My husband and I both spoke with her a few times, I needed to change my payment method and Marilena went above and beyond with her service. One morning I spoke with her for over 1/2 hour about seed germnation! This was in April, and I know she had to be extremely busy, but I couldn't tell. I can't say enough about the size of the plants, all the bareroot aquilegia's I ordered ( 20 ) are growing excellent. Most bareroot divisions I have grown have at least a one in five casuality rate, but not these divisions! The potted plants were all huge, with amazing growth, I can't wait to place my order for fall! This company gets my highest recommendation, I have been purchasing mail order plants for the last 10 years, and they are by far one of the best.

After meeting and ordering from the gurugarden [patrick studios[ you just have to go back for more. The owner Marilena is so helpful and goes the extra mile to ensure you get what you want and then follows up with excellent sized plants and wonderful customer service. I have ordered elsewhere and have never recieved nicer , more unusual perennials, shrubs and tropicals than what Marilena can offer you. I highly recommend you to try out this company and I,m sure you'll find their plants to be mostly much larger than those from other mail order sources which you have probably received only in 4" pots. Unlike some companies, they will acknowledge your order promptly and notify you of sold out or unavailable items whenever possible., Joanne

I ordered five plants from this company they arrived the same week they were shipped from across the country. They are beautiful plants with foliage intact and flowers budding. I can't say enough positive things about this company, they even phoned on the day of shipping.I hope they never get to large to stop this great personal comunication. The paper catalogue is breath taking, and they have a lot of unusual and hard to find plants. They have new release plants that you won't see in other Canadian sites. I only wish I would have ordered more! Have no fear when placing an order from these wonderful people.

Extensive and wonderful selection of reasonably priced hard to find seed. I was very impressed with the seed packaging too, complete with photo of the mature plant and good germination instructions. This is not your run of the mill seed company.

Have dealt with this company for 2 years and have been very happy with their service. They are caring and knowledgeable. They took time out of their busy schedules to call and confirm we received and were happy with our order. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. They have a lot of unique and rare plants and seed not often found in your local nursery.

My first year ordering from this company & I will definitely be a returning customer. I placed my order online & I rec'd emails after placing my order telling me they thought I would be pleased with my purchases & also rec'd two phone calls. One telling me an item would be backordered but would follow shortly & another informing me when the order had been shipped. Plants were very well packaged & quite large with good root growth & quality was excellent.

I just received a large order from this nursery - and I was amazed at the special care they took to package their plants so carefully, that not even a leaf was touched! The plants are very healthy and root systems are matured. I felt sad when they told me that they may not do business with America again, since the cost of transportation is huge, and the climate difference makes it very difficult also.
I would HIGHLY recommend this nursery to anyone.

nice plants, and I've had good luck even with their seeds. They called me out of the blue after I'd received my order (called long distance from Canada to Philadelphia) just to see if everything arrived ok. Doesn't get much better than that.

Awesome! Ran into their website & found a daylily I really wanted. Emailed customer service to enquire about size, quality etc. Owner assured me I would be very happy with size.
Even recieved a phone call before daylily was shipped to ensure weather was good.
Daylily was 2 ft high growing in gallon pot....great huge root system.
Would definatly recommend this company.
