February 4, 2010 | I was happy to place my order again with Select this week. I tried them for the first time last year since I put up my greenhouse and wanted to try out other varieties. I'm amazed at the fact you can get 1100 seeds compared to 25 - 30 from other companies. All of the seeds germinated and grew as well if not better than from other companies. They came right on time and were well packaged. I love the fact that they have heirloom varieties. |

January 3, 2010 | I ordered from Select Seeds last spring and was extremely happy with the results. I had an excellent germination rate for all plants sown indoors. (While I did not do well with those direct sown, I think it had more to do with the weather! ) The plants I started all bloomed well and true to type, except the moonflower, which I think may have been in too rich of a soil - lots of leaves but few blossoms, not their fault! The flowers did well in the conditions they outlined, and thrilled me with their vigor, in spots I've heretofore had difficulties filling satisfactorily. The 'Cappuccino' daisy, 'Blue Horizon' ageratum, and red "tassel flower" were especially pleasing, and I had many positive comments on the 'Cranberry Isle' flowering tobacco, which gave me so many healthy seedlings I was passing them around to other family members! The one perennial I started, a white heliotrope / valerian also gave me more healthy starts than I expected, so I spotted them all around the yard, and look forward to seeing them bloom this year! I will definitely order from them again, and give my full recommendation as a great source for interesting flower seed. I did not order any potted plants, given my limited budget; if I had one wish, it would be that more of those were also available through seed in the future. |

I received the seeds a week later, and the company even included a free packet of seeds that were similar in color and form to the ones I had ordered! I am happy so far, and will post back after I have gotten some flowers! |

September 8, 2009 | I have ordered seeds twice from this company, and this spring also ordered a plant and glad bulbs. When I received my order, the seeds were fine (germinated well, and are blooming profusely). However, I was disappointed in the plant, which had significant breakage, and the glad bulbs were terrible -- tiny, hard little acorns! I called and was treated very respectfully by the customer service representative, and was immediately issued a refund. I planted everything anyway (nothing to lose at this point) thinking that the glads would probably not bloom, but might grow enough to bloom next year. I was astonished a few days ago to discover the glads, which are now about 4 feet tall, ALL blooming beautifully. I am so pleased with this company, I will never hesitate to order from them, and am already planning for next spring. |

May 1, 2009 | Ordered three Rainmaster petunias a few months ago to be shipped at the end of April. Right on queue they arrived yesterday as green and healthy as ever. These people really having the packaging down, not an ounce of soil was lost, not one broken leaf, and the plants were as large or larger than what I could have purchased locally. They even have flower buds forming! I'm dreaming of warm summer nights sitting on my patio revelling in the intoxicating sweet scent of these wonderful old fashioned petunias. April 3, 2009 | I ordered seeds and it has been over two weeks and I have yet to receive my order. I am neutral because they did answer my emails and told me my seeds would ship this Monday because they were waiting on hollyhocks . It is now Friday and I still have not received them. I will email again over the weekend and see if it is still pending or if it was shipped.
On May 18th, 2009, bookreader451 changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:
I am changing my rating to positive even though I never recieved the Hollyhock seeds and was charged for them. So why would I change it? Simply because the seeds I ordered did fabulously well compared to the ones from Lowes and Walmart. I had dianthus and foxglove from both and the plants from select seeds are now twice the size. I did nothing different at all. |

January 14, 2009 | I love love love this company!!!! I have been ordering from them for years and no one, in my substantial experience, ships plants so competently. I have never once, not ONCE, had a plant die on me, and I order way more plants than most gardeners (or that my husband would like!). They have so many interesting and heritage varieties and have offered them long before it became fashionable. I have grown and kept the seeds for years--the Lauren's Grape poppy is gorgeous--everybody comments on it. Mine were gigantic this past summer, as were the nicotianas and four o'clocks, and all the other fun annuals and perennials that made my garden a knockout--no mean feat for the first year on a new property. I would encourage anyone to order from this company. They are the best. |

The nicotiana arrived in perfect condition despite its large brittle leavaes and has bloomed on and on since May. My favorite is the company's unusual lime green flowering tobacco, although the crimson bedder and bella are gorgeous as well. Their new collections are worth checking out, too. My "cottage flowers fall wildflower carpet" is amazing in its combination of asters and golden rod. I never expected so many flowers the first year. This company is well worth patronizing for its unusual offerings and healthy plants. |

My order was placed in January or February, and the seeds were sent first, followed by the bulbs at the appropriate time for planting, and finally the tender annuals in May. When I inquired via select seeds "contact us" on the website, someone very nicely CALLED my home to tell me they had received the order and when it would ship.
I received the very healthy plants yesterday, and the "flower girls" are all happy. Now I wait to see what else they want me to order for them! |

I have also had great sucess with their germination rates, and appreciate that they indicate the approximate number of seeds per packet.
Shipping was prompt, the sowing instructions clear and detailed, and customer service was VERY helpful when I had a question.
Needless to say, this company is at the top of my "most recommended" list.

January 29, 2008 | I was about to place an online order with Select Seeds (for 6 plants and 3 packs of seeds) when I noticed the shipping charge. Select Seeds is one of the companies that hits you with two shipping fees - one for plants and one for seeds. I asked if the seeds could be shipped with the plants and the charge discounted (nope).
The shipping would have been 31% of the order. FYI, the shipping for seeds alone is $4 - compare to JL Hudson who ships up to 20 packets for $1.50. Thanks, but I think I'll have to pass on Select Seeds.

We choose not to ship seeds and plants together because the seeds leave from our climate controlled storage separate from our greenhouse and we do not want to expose the seed packages to high humidity and possible wetting, which would lower quality. It is a reality today that shipping is expensive and the cost is either partially included in the product price or levied separately. Our plants are shipped to be in the mail or on the truck no longer than three days- we offer an express service with no additional express fees. We feel this is an excellent value. Thanks to all!
