Not only was my order mishandled, resulting in my mom receiving the shipment twice, after Mother's Day, but the customer service was horrible. Initially, I (politely) spoke with Lisa, who not only didn't apologize for the mishap but sent me a follow-up letter telling me why the mishap was my fault and why I wouldn't receive a credit for the shipping I paid.
A few days later, when it was clear that there were still problems with my order, I called again and spoke to Vicki. Vicki was a lot more helpful and agreed that I should receive a credit for my shipping cost.
Today, I called and spoke with Emily, who definitely seemed to understand the definition of customer service. She told me that she was going to email me a label that I could forward on to my mother, in order to return the duplicate shipment she received. I still haven't received the label, but at least Emily was friendly.
I'll never do business with these folks again. |

My first order was a bulb birch basket that I sent to my grandmother for Christmas - it had crocus, amaryllis, hyacinths. She LOVED it. She said everything bloomed and in succession as promised on the website.
I also ordered 10" raised bed corners and inline connectors. They were backordered for a little while, which I expected as I ordered them late in the season. When they arrived, two sets of my inline connectors were missing screws and caps. I emailed Gardener's on Saturday, they responded on Monday, and I received the parts on Thursday - now that's what I call service!

One bottle, however, came without it's spray top, and the cap that was put on it was leaking, and not in a plastic bag (the spray mechanism usually is packed separately with the bottle in a bag). I emailed them with my order number, told them the problem, and that I hadn't lost much product, but would like a spray top. The next day I had a reply that they would not only send the spray mechanism, but a new bottle of product. It arrived a few days later. Great products, great customer service. Go to their web site; they don't even mind if you rate their products right there and let the good ratings in with the bad. I like that integrity. |

They even have a ratings system on their website where one can now rate their experience with various Gardener's Supply products. I signed up on their website for sales emails and often take advantage of free shipping offers. |

The squash piggie didn't make it in the box with the rest of the items. When I called they were so very pleasant and helpful. Not only are they sending out my squash piggie but I was allowed to add on with no extra shipping charge! I immediatly added on some plant supports. After I hung up I remembered my mom wanted the Cobra Head tool that was on sale. I called back and got an equally pleasant and helpful woman. She very quickly was able to add on to the order and was happy to do it! I LOVE this company. They are so focused on good customer service. |

But I was rather perplexed when I placed an order, then placed another order a few days later using a coupon code for free shipping, and I received the second order in just a few days and the first order (for which I paid shipping) 11 days later. I wrote to the company asking for some explanation and saying that while I understand the second order was delivered within their 6-12 day range, I didn't understand how one order (for which I didn't even pay shipping) could come so quickly and another take so long. And frankly, shipping just shouldn't take 11 days when you are paying more than $10 for it. Unfortunately the response I received could have been generated by a computer. It didn't answer my question and instead told me that if I wanted my order sooner, I should pay for expedited shipping. That's the kind of thing that can turn me off of a company forever. I don't care if you don't need my business, it's nice to know that you at least appreciate it and it would have been nicer if they had actually taken the time to respond to my question. Oh well. I guess from now on I'll look for items at smaller merchants who have a better understanding of customer service. |

I do not have the kit, but my mom said it's very well made. I ordered another kit for my sister, and she also was very thrilled.
I ordered Gardener's Revolution Planters (4) for my tomatoes, and they are very sturdy and very well made.
I plan on buying more self-watering planters to grow my veggies next season.

Unfortunately during shipping the cap to the Serenade shattered, and even though they had put a protective plastic bag around each item, the entire bottle of Serenade leaked all over the entire box leaving a smelly gooey mess. I e-mailed photos of the mess and quickly received an e-mail with an apology. They corrected the matter by sending out replacements at no charge within 2 days. Wonderful customer service! |

It was handsome and appeared well-constructed, but one of the wood slats in the seat broke within a couple of weeks, apparently because of a small unseen defect in the wood. I emailed Gardener's Supply to describe the problem. Within a few hours after receiving my message, the company responded, apologizing for the problem and saying that they had contacted the manufacturer and arranged for a replacement portion of the seat to be shipped to me at no charge. A week later, my bench is as good as new. |

I didn't realize until I opened the package this afternoon, that I ordered 4 SETS. So I actually have 8 kits! It was a great surprise.

The only exception was last fall, when I wanted something that was listed on their website as being backordered. I ordered it anyway. They have kept in touch with regular emails, reminding me that the item has been backordered, notifying me of the estimated date it will be in stock (which hasn't changed), and giving me the option of cancelling my order. I'm very pleased with the way the company has handled this situation and intend to order from them again. On February 2nd, 2008, julsie added the following:
My credit card information changed between the time I placed an order (for an item I knew was on backorder) and the time it came in. I got a phone call from a friendly customer service rep asking if I still wanted the item and asking for my new information. I placed my order and it was processed online. Several days later I receive an email informing me that two out of the three items were out of stock.
Why was this information not available on the website? I was sending the order directly to family. Now I am sending them a rather skimpy gift and it's now too late to cancel and order elsewhere.
This is not my idea of how a website should work. If I'm paying a premium price for both items and shipping (yes, you are higher than other vendors) I expect better service.
I wouldn't waste my time (or money) ordering from this company again, unless you enjoy being disappointed or disappointing others at Christmas. |

I ordered/received beautiful and rather expensive lights only to find they had an engineering fault causing them to break. They sent a new item, newly engineered, free of charge with no cost of returning the orig. broken lights. Because they had to wait until the new was in stock it took some time and they kept in contact until I received to let me know they were still considering my order important. When I complimented, they said their policy was 100% customer satisfaction. Apparently this is not just a marketing ploy but a way of doing business. |

I have yet to place and order only to find that the item is back ordered which is my chief complaint by me about many of their competitors. When ordering a fertilizer or pest control that I can’t find locally I can count on them to have the item in stock if they say it is and ship it when they say they will. I can’t say their prices are always the lowest because they often are not but when my garden is suffering I know who to call. If paying a dollar or two more and paying for faster shipping will save my garden I’m more than happy to pony up as I’m sure every other serious gardener would. |

They are the best! They carry a lot of stuff that i like, and when i have spoken to anyone from their company on the phone, they have been so nice and patient. In addition, i ordered a number of bags of compost and they didn't even charge shipping by weight. Isn't that nice? The compost was gorgeous! It is black and rich looking and smooth and i think it is from Vermont so it must be good stuff. What would we do without Gardener's Supply Company?! |

I was astonished to discover they had retained my data even though I had been an inactive account for so long. They still carry the product and it will be on its way to me first thing Monday morning. I have been informed every step of the way about the status of the order, both by e-mail & phone & given the option of changing the order based on this info. I have just finished a very negative rating of another garden company that has not followed up on an order placed months ago! That lousy experience really makes me appreciate a company such as this! I have ordered a lot of stuff from them over a number of years (the wonderful self watering planters are a favorite for myself & as gifts) and have really never had a problem. It's nice to know that when a glitch occurs (backorders happen!) there are people out there that address it properly! Oh, & when you call, the phone queue message makes a point of mentioning that you'll be speaking to a "live person"! In these "press #29..." days-it has to make you laugh! This is one of my favorite garden companies! |

Parts were shipped separately (which I hadn't quite expected, but made sense considering the size of my order), and came *very* quickly. The whole kit was in good shape and fairly easy to assemble. It was cheaper than some other kits I researched.
I will add that their website has been a useful resource and they generally come off as a personable company. Love looking through their catalogs and have no complaints. Would definitely order from them in the future. |

I did have one problem with the first order. I had bought their fantastic tomato ladders (green) last year and was so very happy with their heavy duty quality that I ordered more this year. I ordered the red, expecting the deep red in the catalog, I got a neon orangy-salmon color, and 2 of them had tiny chips on them. I called the company, thinking that I would just let them know, but not expecting to return them, but I was really taken back by their service.
They insisted that I not keep them if I were unhappy with them, even if just for the color! They promptly sent me out replacements, even offering to send green if I preferred (which I did) and asked if they sent me a pre-paid return address label would I mind returning the red (orange) ones? They wanted to see them, as they were shipped from a different location. They are nice, courteous people to deal with who really do beleive in customer service!! I highly recommend this company!!! I have ordered again from this company and once again, everything was perfect! I have nothing but respect for any company who CONSISTENLY have quality products and great service. It is a tough compination to maintain!! This order was the rubber tote buckets and more tomato (green) ladders. I of course am in love with the tomato ladders, but was simply amazed by those rubber 2 handle baskets/buckets that I ordered. I use them for everything, including mixing fertilizer, to drag around for weeding, for holding plants in good shape until I get them transplanted and much more. I can't wait to use them to harvest tomatoes!! But surprisingly, I use them indoor for laundy and to hold garden tools, gloves, boots, etc. until I go outside and take the whole thing with me. Then I just hose it out and it's ready to go again. An added bonus is the great colors!! Don't hesitate ordering them or anything else from this company!!! |

Once again, I was very pleased with my order and it's prompt delivery. I did have one slight problem with my order--I ordered the hummingbird seed balls--two of which were crushed in one package. I called customer service and explained my problem (and the fact that it was part of a gift that I needed soon)--the lady I spoke with said that they'd get a replacement shipped right out... None of the 'you need to send it back before we can send a replacement--you pay for the shipping of the replacement' that I've received from other companies. I've been pleased with both the quality of the products I have ordered and with the prompt, courteous customer service. |

They continue to send me advertisements via e-mail and catalogs, which I now have asked them to stop.Due to their poor customer service I will never place an order with them again. I am changing my rating to a neutral. After I received several advertisements and e-mailed Gardeners Supply to stop, I would not order anything from them again due to their poor customer service, they e-mailed me yesterday explaining that yes they had problems with their recycled mulch edging and they would credit my card the full price. Too late to win me back as a customer. If they knew they had a problem they should have taken the initiative to make things right. I shouldn't have had to e-mail them twice to get this resolved. |

The one package I did not receive, I called on yesterday, April 10th, and asked if they had anymore information than what's on their website and was told someone would call me in 24 hours. I was quite surprised to receive a call at 9:00am in my office telling me they couldn't find any further information and a replacement order will be mailed today. By 10:30am that order was in their system and approved for shipping. WOW, AM I IMPRESSED!!!! I can't wait to order something else. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!

Hubby put 3 together and noticed one was missing the part that tells you when self watering tank is full. It wasn't something I'd complain about so I let it go. This year when he put the last one together it was missing one of the bottom panels. Since you can't use it without it I called....I thought they'd never believe me...but the planters are great so I had to try. SEVEN days later the part is in my hands (the leveler is also being shipped)! Haven't seen this kind of service EVER! Call me a customer forever! |
