| Positive | dudleycath Winston Salem, NC (3 reviews) August 16, 2011 | My first year ordering from Rockytop. Communication with Phil was stellar... both funny and informative, and the fans received were brimming over with increases. I'm really happy to be able to give Rockytop two enthusiastic thumbs up! |
| Positive | Badgertalk Nashville, TN (Zone 6a) (10 reviews) June 15, 2011 | I ordered the end of the season clearance deal - you don't get to pick the plants but they promise lots of plants for the money. You can "suggest" if there is something you are interested in.
I was very pleased with the amount of irises sent - I figured that there were about $350 worth of plants for $100.
The plants looked great and were marked - everything bloomed and looked great. |
| Positive | RobertWM Clawson, MI (10 reviews) July 29, 2009 | I'm trying iris this year from Rockytop gardens in Tennessee because I've had too many negative results lately with iris hybridized in Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, or Australia. These are “ideal for iris” growing locales but it seems that when you take the plants out of these ideal climates and expose them to real weather, like Michigan's, they too often sit and pout for years or slowly disappear. Rockytop's plants were hybridized in places like Missouri, Oklahoma, or New Jersey and have to thrive in Tennessee's weather so I think they'll do better in my challenging climate. I have high hopes for them.
I'll revisit this review in a couple of years to let everyone how Rockytop's plants have done. For now, I can say that I got fine plants from them, much larger and fresher than the other two major iris suppliers I ordered from this year. The rhizomes were quite hefty and had especially nicely developed root systems. The plants looked like they had been dug and cleaned only a day or two before they were shipped to me and started growing as soon as they were planted. Also, my order arrived exactly when I requested it. Finally, I got incredibly generous bonuses from them. I ordered two '09 introductions and received FOUR more '09 intros and the '08 I had suggested as a bonus for free. You can tell they're proud of their plants, as they should be, and love to share. I'm sure you can also tell I'm very pleased with this order.

| Positive | cathysplants Readyville, TN (Zone 7a) (5 reviews) January 3, 2007 | My very favorite iris source. Phil's iris rhizome divisions are large and generous, beautiful and healthy. Visited his gardens this year and saw the most beautiful irises ever. I highly recommend Rocky Top. Great bonuses too!

| Positive | Margiempv Oro Valley, AZ (Zone 9a) (30 reviews) December 1, 2006 | This was my first year ordering from Rocky Top Iris Gardens and it was a very pleasant experience. I would certainly order again from them. The rhizomes arrived fresh, large, and oh so healthy. Nice extras too! Phil was kind, courteous, helpful, and did all he could to make my order all that I hoped and more.
I highly recommend Rocky Top Iris Gardens.
Note: He carries many newer irises that other larger iris gardens do not. |
| Positive | Tntigger Greeneville, TN (Zone 6b) (28 reviews) September 19, 2006 | Our first year ordering with this company, but will not be the last. The best communications from Phil, all iris we wanted were available, extremely generous bonuses and shipping was exactly when told it would be.They had the iris I had been searching for since seeing it bloom at Portland Iris Convention,Desert Umber.Reccomend this company to all,the only improvement would be if it had own website. |
| Positive | puttytat Saint Louis, MO (Zone 6a) (4 reviews) May 11, 2006 | This is my fourth year as a RockyTop customer. RT offers many introductions from newer hybridizers as well as a great cross section of well known cultivars. Rhizomes are solid and healthy - haven't lost one despite crowded garden conditions! - and extras are generously given, whenever possible from the customer's wishlist. Phil Williams answers Emails promptly (and with humor)! Highly recommended from a gardener who's ordered from almost EVERYBODY in the US, Canada and even Australia!! |
