The scoop on 'Daffodil Mart'

The people who owned the Daffodil Mart, Brent Heath & family run a smaller(?) outfit now called Brent & Becky's Bulbs. I found out about them when I wrote to the Daffodil Mart a few years ago. I have ordered bulbs from B & B Bulbs several times now. The prices are lower than Park's higher the Van Engelen. The catalog has few pictures but the quality of their bulbs and customer service are EXCEPTIONAL! I have never reveived a single rotten bulb yet. And I already have a list to order from them for 2003.

They have apparently gotten out of the bulk bulb business; both people I spoke with confirmed Daffodil Mart no longer exists. All bulbs are consolidated into their retail catalog, with much higher prices. Seems a bit disingenuous of WFF to buy a competitor and then dissolve them after so short an interval.

Just confirming the last comment here that Daffodil Mart has been bought out by White Flower according to the design director at our state botanical gardens. Apparently the owners have opened a new place across the street, [Brent and] Becky's Bulbs.

I've not ordered from them yet because of the $50 minimum charge. The most recent catalog states that they have eliminated the minimum charge due to an increase in retail home gardener orders. They have also apparently been bought by White Flower Farm.

I ordered from them for the first time this past fall -- everything arrived pronto, excellent quality bulbs, so far everything that should be blooming now is blooming.

We're absolutely delighted with the Daffodil Mart. We placed a very large order for bulbs last fall (given the recommendations we found on your web site), and we couldn't be happier. The size and condition of the bulbs was almost beyond belief. So are the prices, planting instructions, and customer service. Now, the bulbs are beginning to come up, and they're absolutely beautiful. Each day, we arise to find new fantastic flowers. It's SO exciting! This week, we heard Brent Heath speak on the fragrant bulb garden. Among other things, I learned that Brent and his wife, Becky, sold the Daffodil Mart to White Flower Farms. Since they ship their bulbs from the same place, one can obtain the quality of the bulbs from White Flower Farms for a fraction of the cost -- by ordering from the Daffodil Mart catalog.

Daffodil Mart has excellent quality bulbs (big and fresh), and you save lots of money if you buy in bulk (minimum order on any bulb is 25 - you save bunches when you order 50 or more - I made a killing on Hyacinth). I think the minimum order is like $150. You have to already know what ya want to order from Daffodil Mart - there are no pictures in their very extensive catalog.

I have ordered from the Daffodil Mart for 4 years running, and each time have been impressed by the high quality bulbs. I find their catalog representations to be accurate and very interesting. They instituted a minimum order requirement in 1997 ($75?) but their prices are still very competitive and they carry varieties that are not easily found otherwise. Highly recommended.

I received a selection of huge daffodil, daylily, and arum bulbs and have nothing but the best to say for the Daffodil Mart of Gloucester, Virginia. Am quite anxious for this spring show.

Catalog is very plain; go elsewhere for pictures. But they have All Sorts of daffs. They give good info on how to plant them, good info on height, blooming period, sensible descriptions. Prices, as far as I can tell, are very good. They are very plain about which kinds are hard to grow. And I had a yard which was the talk of the neighborhood for two months! (March thru April)

We have been purchasing daffodils from the Daffodil Mart for a number of years now, due to the fact that we buy fairly large quantities and like to have off-beat varieties: generally find that their selection and prices can't be beat. In the past we have always been very pleased with the bulbs as received, but in the fall of '96 a number of bad (rotten) bulbs were included with our order: one variety, Kassell's Gold, had 31 out of 100 bad! We were given prompt refunds when we reported the number of bad bulbs by phone, with no hassle whatsoever. So we will continue to give them the majority of our bulb business, but will be monitoring the quality control situation closely.

I've placed orders with Daffodil Mart several years now. Although most of these large (thousands of bulbs) orders were great, I have found that each time at least one item number was omitted entirely. Fortunately, it's never been anything big, so I haven't even bothered to call. I did have trouble with bulbs not coming up this year, but the squirrels attacked my garden so badly that I can't assess where the blame lies.

have planted Daffodil Mart bulbs for 2 years and have been extremely happy with the quality. They carry a lot of bulbs I haven't found anywhere else. Their catalog is informative. Brent Heath the owner (along with his wife Becky) run the business. When there were questions about my order regarding quantity or substitutions, Brent called to get it straightened out. I recently heard him speak at a conference and he is very interesting. He also has a book out with gorgeous pictures and information about daffodils. Great place!!

Thoughtful, courteous, and prompt service. Top quality bulbs. When I got some bum ones in their special end-of-season sale, I was credited for them generously without any challenge or reluctance. For those of us who collect heirloom varieties for our show gardens, they kindly provide the date of introduction for any old varieties, like, for instance, the bi-color daffodil, 'Mrs. E. H. Krelage'. Their prices for large quantities are almost unbeatable. For me one of the two best and most reliable companies.
