Great customer service and communication. 'My second order was for only one backordered plant so it was at the bottom of a packed with paper box and did not fair to well in travelling. Santa Rosa quickly said they would reship when I contacted them.Great company to do business with. The plants arrived in wonderful condition. All of the plants that I have ordered from Santa Rosa Gardens have always been shipped in great packaging and the plants in great condition. Someone found two Carex Everdi that were unavailable and they were sent to me free of charge! I want to thank you for the plants and for your excellent customer service. I live in an area that does not have access to super garden centers and the few garden centers here carry limited variety. I have tried other on-line plant companies on the few occasions that you were either sold out of something I was interested in or didn't carry it. I have always been disappointed in their plants. They are never as vigorous, as large or as well packed as your plants. Your shipping is faster, your shipping charges are less and your prices are very, very competitive. I've been mail ordering plants for almost 10 years, often from another seller listed as one of Dave's Garden's Top 5 for perennial, and I've never received plants through the mail that were anywhere near this nice before. Since the plants were purchased from Santa Rosa's end of season sale, this makes their condition even more impressive. In particular, I purchased the last five Echinacea Hot Summer plants in stock and expected that these would arrive in the same condition as the last plants at my local 'big box' store at the end of a summer. Instead, they were tall, green, full and healthy. Of the 32 plants I received, only one lavender plant looked a bit tired and dry. I look forward to planting these guys in the next day or two. Hopefully our 100 degree days (and 90 degree nights) won't be too much for these lovely specimens. On May 6th, 2013, mombly added the following: WOW again. I usually make most of my purchases from Santa Rosa during their end of season sales, so I had forgotten how really great their plants are in the spring. I placed an order for four of their small fountain grasses called "Piglet". They were shipped and packed very well and the plants were healthy and of good size, but then I noticed that a part of one of the plants looked suspiciously like crab grass. I called Santa Rosa and the lady answering apologized for the shipment and said she'd send another as a free replacement. The following day I decided to plant the remaining three, but when I looked more carefully at the third plant, it too looked like a young crabgrass. I wasn't positive, but felt uneasy about planting it. I called them again and recognized her voice. I told her another plant that seemed wrong. She said she had already intended on sending a second grass to make sure the entire order was right. She also told me she'd examine all the Piglet plantings there and caution her staff to be extra careful with these grasses. She also said she would ask the order department to show her the plants before they were packed. Hats off to Santa Rosa Gardens! I'll attempt to send all my orders their way. They offer great customer service in this No Customer Service world! I ordered two alchemilla mollis from their half price sale last fall, and received very tiny, rather wornout plants. I had to put tags on them so I could find them, they were so tiny. I have been gardening since 1996, so I know how to install plants.I though that I would wait for spring, but they have shown no development at all, so I have ordered plants from another company. I should add that evry single plant I ordered from other companies, however small, performed for me. On March 29th, 2013, DonnaMack changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: I received a very gracious email from Ms. Jude Groninger of Santa Rosa Gardens. She seemed genuinely concerned, and offered me a ship date of April 22 for the replacement plants. I am changing my rating to neutral, and if this attention is any indication, I am in hopes of changing my rating to positive. On April 25th, 2013, DonnaMack changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: I received replacement plants, plus a gift, and I must say that the alchemilla mollis are amongst the finest I have ever received - beautiful, large, and well packaged. Santa Rosa has excellent plants at excellent prices and wonderful customer service. Last year I ordered numerous coreopsis from them during a mid-summer sale. The plants all arrived thriving. Within weeks every single variety of coreopsis I ordered was in bloom and kept blooming through fall. This year I placed an order for 3 butterfly bushes, more coreopsis and an echinacea. I haven't received them yet but if they are even half as nice as the plants I received last year I will be very happy. I was notified that one item I ordered, Panicum 'Northwind', was back-ordered and would arrive in a few weeks, but this was not a problem for me. All-in-all, I would definitely recommend Santa Rosa Gardens to anyone. After recently coming across them again, I checked them out on Dave's and promptly placed an order for approximately 30 plants due to their great reputation here. Well, I could not possibly be happier! Customer service has been absolutely wonderful (thank you, Jude, for all of your help and for your patience - you're terrific!!). They kept me informed on the status of my order, answered questions in a quick and friendly manner, and they shipped my order out promptly. Every single plant arrived healthy, robust and with a full, well-developed root system and each was sleeved in its own "sock" for added protection. Also, the shipping fee is amongst the lowest I have seen ($7.99 flat fee with optional 2-day or next-day air). Based on the price, the plants, the vast selection, the packaging, and the customer service, Santa Rosa is now one of only two nurseries that I will always check first when placing an order. Every plant has a robust root system and all looked great except for one Gaillardia who did not travel as well as its companions. I emailed Jude on arrival and was immediately offered a replacement. I requested a few days, however, to watch this particular plant. I am happy to say that I emailed Jude this evening cancelling the replacement as the Gaillardia has fully rebounded and now looks as good everyone else (healthy roots = healthy plants). I have already placed another order due to ship on Monday. Great plants at great prices coupled with quick, responsive customer service make SRG a gem of a nursery! On October 12th, 2012, Old_Gardener added the following: I received the next order and, as before, every plant looks great! The plants that I received two weeks ago have all transitioned well in my garden, are rapidly putting on size, and many are sending up buds. Santa Rosa is fantastic!! Although it is late in the season and I purchased sale plants, each and every plant looks fantastic - truly an exceptional delivery. On March 9th, 2013, Old_Gardener added the following: I placed an order for 24 plants on 2/1 for early spring/March shipping. The plants were shipped last Monday or Tuesday (I received a ship notice on both days - perhaps it is due to there being 2 boxes shipped?) and I received them on Thursday. UPS left my boxes in the middle of a shared driveway (not at my house), the smaller box was upside down, and the plants in the smaller box appeared to have suffered a difficult ride (1 was even out of its pot). Thankfully, SRG had wrapped and packed the plants well and all 21 plants arrived green and moist. I did email Jude just in case the upended plants go into shock and she emailed me back immediately - thank you, Jude, you are fantastic - but, as of last night, they were all resting comfortably in the greenhouse. I was notified on Tuesday (after shipping) that 3 of the 24 plants were on backorder (hence, receiving 21) and I only wish they had notified me prior to shipping so that I could have substituted similar cultivars that are in stock for the ones that were not ready yet. Still, a very positive review and I have already placed another order to fill in another section of garden. Santa Rosa Garden has great prices, fantastic customer service (Jude is the best), and packaging that survives the perils of shipping. All of the plants that I have received have, without fail, been well-rooted and healthy. Truly 10 stars! I got two big boxes sent packed full of plants for 7.99 shipping and handling and they send you an e-mail when they've shipped. Their packing is as as good as or better than most also. However, when I saw their prices, I felt it had to be too good to be true and they must send little seedlings. I was so surprised when my first order arrived. Great packing, and nice sized healthy plants. SRG is a great find and I am redoing the garden beds with much of their product. The 80% sale forced me to do that because I ordered so many plants! :) Only 2 things I would have loved to see: Jack In The Pulpit and Yucca, this way I could just do one stop shopping. Their customer service rep, Jude is great to deal with and she answers your questions promptly. As with any mail order company some plants just don't make it to your home in good shape, and I notified Jude and the replacements were sent, no questions asked. The have the most reasonable prices around and their plants always perform in my gardens. Rarely one doesn't make it and it is replaced immediately by them. I especially like their 2.99 sale at the end of the summer. The plants are larger and the prices can't be beat. You have to use this company. On September 27th, 2010, plantgnome1 added the following: Since my last rating, I have received several more orders and all were in excellent condition, packaged well, the soil was moist and all plants were tagged. Excellent service as I add plants to existing orders within days of shipping and they always come thru. Will continue to purchase from this company for my all my gardens. I also ordered from a competitor, who shall remain nameless at this time, and received sub standard Phlox Panaculata, yellowing Filipendula, panicum grass with dried out soil as well as soil all over inside the box, my free mystery plants were in better shape in my order than the ones I paid for. I will start using SRG more and the competitor much less. I am refurbishing the gardens at my daughters house and needed to purchase many items, so this sale is perfect for me. Their customer service is the best, friendly helpful and they let me know when certain plants are not available in enough time to order something else in their place. This year-even with the hurricane, 99% of their plants did not even get damaged because of strong root systems.Yes some plants arrive small, but in my experience these plants caught up to the others within a month with proper planting and feeding (I plant all new arrivals with Biotone starter). I never received a dead plant from them yet. I read the few negatives and some people really complain about everything-I guess you can't make 100% of the people happy all the time. They make good on any plant that doesn't survive. Now shipping is a flat rate which is another plus. I ordered 8 different ones. When they arrived, some had flowers on them, an unexpected surprise. Superlative packaging, not a single broken leaf or stem, soil in pots, everything neat and orderly and lush. Their flat-rate shipping is fabulous... and encouraged me to keep adding to my order. Sneaky. The plants are nice, not fabulous, but I didn't expect fabulous for 4 bucks. However I tapped one out of its little pot and saw lovely root structures. They were a bit dry --- NOT their fault as we've had terribly hot weather lately -- and they weren't completely parched. So I'm giving them a nice bottom drink of Super Thrive and have the bed ready to plant tomorrow. I am VERY happy with my first order from Santa Rosa. So much so that I went back and placed an order for 15 ornamental grasses. On July 19th, 2012, etnredclay added the following: Second order from them was also wonderful. Packaging is the best I've ever seen, each potted plant was secured in a mesh sock and then wrapped in a huge amount of brown paper. Not a speck of soil out of place. Not a crushed leaf. Of the 15 ornamental grasses I ordered (3 of 5 kinds), 12 of them were spectacular, and 3 of them were OK to look at. Then I tapped the 3 out of their pots -- huge root systems. They have sent it twice and I still don't have the correct plant. I don't like leaving negative feedback, but they seem to have a problem getting the correct plants sent out. Also, the other plants I received from them this year were tiny. Example: Hydrangea 'Zebra' - It was 3 inches tall and cost $9.99. It died and there was nothing I could do to save it. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with anything I received from Santa Rosa and I couldn't ask for a easier recovery from a problem. This year I noticed they had teamed up with Terra Nova! How wonderful for us nursery people. Surprise, they are owned by the same person, Paul Babikow (co-owner). I have spoken with Mr. Babikow personally years past, and a more helpful person can not be found. Shipping was timely (I live on the East Coast) and the plants were well packaged and of good size for the price. Will order from them in again the future. On April 30th, 2012, pattygreengenes added the following: Received my 2012 order last week. Carefully packaged as usual. They confirm your order and keep you up to date on the shipping status. An excellent company. The morning glory I ordered, though, was infested with whitefly and I think I will have to dump it. On June 15th, 2012, pattygreengenes added the following: Ordered another 10 or so plants. Santa Rosa and Lazy SS are my to two favorite sources. The plants I received are healthy, well packed and the shipping was very fast considering it had to cross the entire country. Love these guys - deserve their top 5 status. Also, the morning glory has recovered now that it is outside and is blooming.
