Great, quick response to questions in the off season, but it took about 3-4days once they started shipping. The quality of the plants was good so overall it was a positive experience although I've had better. |

June 04, 2009 | I just rec'd my first order from Direct Source Hostas. They were running a special, buy $100 and get 1 "named" bonus and 2 "special new bonuses". Never orderining from them before, didn't really know what to expect. I rec'd my order, probably within 1 week. Unbelievable packaging... unbelievable plants... What more would you ask for ? Oh yeah - great bonus plants too ! This was a box of 11 hostas, some with more than 1 eye. Not a single one was wilted or crushed. How do you do that ? Hats off to them !! Highly recommend them to anyone that just wants good hostas !

They are large, healthy plants and they arrived in great condition. Three of them were "on special" and a very good deal. (The company sends out frequent e-mails about specials.) I ordered from Jerry because the company was ranked in the Top Thirty on-line companies, and I was not disappointed. |

May 20, 2009 | Having ordered through Direct Hosta in the past I was very pleased with the ease of ordering and the quality of plants.
This year I was sorely disappointed. After ordering I did not know when my plants would ship. I had to ask when. The order had the incorrect zip code and I had to track it down and pick it up from FEDEX. The plants were in great shape but the order was incomplete due to crop failure. Rather than letting me know before the plants shipped (so I might replace my choices with others) I was sent a check for the missing plants. |

May 13, 2009 | I received my first order from Direct Source on April 30th. I was very pleased and impressed with the hostas I received. I quickly repotted them. I live in Tucson, AZ and it is HOT (4 days of 100 degrees + so far), so I was worried that the plants might not do well. Plan on planting them in the fall. This was an impulse purchase that I decided on after last year's hostas just took off! Deep watering after sundown, SHADING them and they look beautiful! They already have noticeable growth! Appreciated their follow up. |

Unlike another website I ordered from where I received bare root plants that will take forever to take hold. My direct source hostas look great the minute i plant them and they are thriving. April 24, 2009 | I ordered my hostas back in Jan/Feb and added to that order in March. My order arrived about a week ago. Living in TX, I was very worried about the time of shipment because it's late in the season for us to be planting hostas, so I was VERY glad about them being shipped in pots. All of the hostas look great with a strong root system. They were well packaged and didn't look like they had suffered during transit. They are growing much quicker than I expected, and already the leaves are getting bigger. I ordered from them because of the good reviews here and the HUGE selection of hostas. I am very glad I ordered so early in the season since a few of the ones I ordered were gone in March. The process was simple, and the website was well organized. |

November 21, 2008 | Unfortunately I have to digress from the praise heaped on this company. Albeit the online order process is quick and painless and the communication was responsive, overall the quality of the experience I found was very average.
As I am local to them I inquired if I could stop by to pick up the plants (to save shipping) to which they said "no", oh well. The stock that arrived (quickly) were the same anemic plants that I am all too used to receiving from online ordering. Within a month of planting (placed in ground at the same time as other stock from competing companies) the Direct source Hostas all gave up the ghost. Since they have no guarantee my recourse will be to reorder from elsewhere.
I have about 50 Hostas around my home so I am familiar with their care, and other Hosta in the same area are doing well, so this came as a disappointment after reading all the praise and the communication I had with the owner.
So while not a negative review, I cannot possibly justify a positive one either. |

June 06, 2008 | Jerry and the Direct Source People are fabulous! I learned of them because of Dave' Garden Top 30 List. When I read these hosta are wintered over, in pots, in ChicagoLand, I figured these have to be the toughest hostas on earth. All the plants I ordered last year flourished and bloomed! They virtually jumped out of the ground this spring. I have since ordered quite a few more. Jerry's communications are prompt and helpful when I have had questions. They tell you when your order has been sent out. The plants are amazing!
You'll be hard pressed to find a better company to deal with for hosta. (If you can manage to be patient, Jerry makes some great offers in mid-Spring at substantial savings. I can't be patient, I just have to order in February!!) |

When I got my first order I was completely blown away at how nice the plants were and how big and healthy they were. They were very well packaged too. I have had the first batch in the garden for some time now and they are doing fantastic! So I ordered another batch (15 more plants) and I just got them today. All were labeled, healthy and nicely sized. I could not be more thrilled with this company. I highly recommend them. |

May 22, 2008 | i belong to a community garden and live in the city but do not trust package deliveries at my building. i have my plants shipped to a suburban address, i then pick them up (usually 3-5 days after their arrival), bring them to my apartment in the city and unwrap them. the next day i carry them to work in a structured grocery bag and walk to the garden after work to plant them. direct source hostas' plants arrived well packaged and in EXCELLENT condition; so excellent that they survived being knocked over and stepped on by my boss (the leaves literally have the pattern of the bottom of his sneakers on them). i also have to comment on their great selection, i do not care very much for what i consider to be traditional hostas, green leafed/lavendar bloomed; can't really stand them. i do however have shady areas that need plants. there were so many choices i almost wish i had more shade (almost) :) |

I plant when I have time. Usually I just leave them in their pots and put the plant, pot and all, in the garden for a year or two, until they have a great root system. Now, if I can only stop the voles from eating the roots I would be a much happier hosta lover. I will continue to buy from Direct Source as long as I have some grass left in my yard, of which there is not much grass left. Direct Source is tops in my book. |
