On March 27, 2008, catman529 Franklin, TN wrote: Good shipping time and excellent germination rate (over 11/12 seeds germinate), got White Wonder and Great white seeds in first order, and then got some Homestead and Tiny Tim seeds. Both orders came with a free sample (Hank) which I also am growing. The larger plants look great so far, and they're starting to out grow their pots and it's almost time to start hardening them off. I can't wait to have our first white tomatoes, and if I'm pleased with the Tiny Tim dwarfs, I'll be getting more of those to grow indoors year-round. I have a feeling we'll always be filling our window sills with miniature cherry tomato plants...
Thanks for the great heirloom seeds! |

Skcupo (1 review) |
On February 28, 2007, Skcupo Victoria
(Canada) wrote:Close to the end of January I placed my order with Tomato Bob, ordering seeds for a bunch of harder-to-find tomatoes and other veggies. I payed with Paypal. As soon as I'd submitted the order, I saw a variety of sunflower (teddy bear) that I've been looking for for several years. The reason I didn't see it the first time was because the website is designed such that you can ONLY get to the sunflowers through the site map and not through the main menu.
I followed up my order with an e-mail to the company asking if it would be possible to amend my order to include the sunflower seeds before the payment was processed. I received no response though my credit card was billed the next day. I was a little annoyed, but I figured they might get back to me a little later and maybe we'd still be able to sort it out. I heard nothing from them for weeks.
Finally, I decided to contact them. I was looking for a phone number and found that there was no toll free number. So I emailed, instead, despite the fact that I'd received no response the last time. I explained my situation and the fact that I hadn't heard back from them nor had I received seeds even though the money had been charged to my Visa weeks prior.
I heard back fairly quickly from a representative who indicated that she didn't know where my order was. She asked for the date of my order, which I sent. After checking their files, and finding no record of my order, she emailed me back asking for more details, which I sent. I sent her the original email which never got to them and the date of the order. She told me that sometimes orders just get "lost". (Never, EVER what you want to hear when you're communicating with a customer service rep).
Then, she wrote back and told me that she'd found my order. Hooray! She remembered it personally because my wife had phoned and asked for the sunflower seeds to be added. Except that I'm not married and I never had a phone number for the company. I would suspect, too, that my name didn't match the name on that order because that would be a huge coincidence. It would have been an easy enough thing to check and checking BEFORE emailing me would have prevented them from looking silly at having found a false lead. Still nothing.
The poor representative finally admitted defeat and asked me identify all the products I'd ordered and they'd ship it out immediately but there was no way I was going to do all the math it would take to try and recreate an order that I made over a month ago (I can't remember what all I ordered exactly) and with the exchange rate (I'm in Canada), I didn't want to have to try and figure out how much I could get etc.
I have asked for a refund and will update this entry when I receive it.
I felt like the company was disorganized. I don't like to point fingers or make unneccessary complaints, but I think that it's important to let people know about poor experiences along with the good. My biggest concern is with the fact that their system allows PayPal to bill customers BEFORE Tomato Bob receives the order. Also, that they lost an email AND an order both for the same customer indicates a larger problem with their administrative system.
Buyer beware! On March 27th, 2007, Skcupo changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:
I finally received my order and it looks great. They threw in some extra seeds and the packaging is great. All the seeds are packed in little ziploc bags to keep them from getting wet. Very clever. Despite all the confusion, I am happy to have my order and it exceeds my expectations. Still don't know what happened that they lost my order, but all you can expect is that a company do what they can to make it up.

My order was not filled correctly.
"Black from Tulia" was an empty packet.
I ordered two packets of Milka's Bulgarian (20-25 Seeds) but received only one packet.
The "Zogola" packet contained only 14 seeds (advertised 20-25 Seeds) .
The "Red Brandywine" packet contained only 12 seeds(advertised 20-25 Seeds).
My requests for replacement seeds have been ignored.
Its too late now to re-order, have missed sowing time for Zone 8A because of TomatoBobs indifference.
TomatoBob will not get any more business from me or my friends.
Company representative comment on February 23, 2007:
On Feb 23, 2007 10:46 PM, Tomato Bob's Heirloom Tomatoes added:Hello Tumble_weed.
We apologize for the errors in your your. We are reviewing internally with our fullfillemnt department as this is very atypical for them. In checking through emails, we were unable to locate a request for replacement seeds. As you noted it is too late to start seeds in your region, we will be processing a full refund. Again, we are sorry for the descrepencies and will do our best to ensure this does not happen again. We hope the seeds you did receive grow well and give you a bumper crop of great tomatoes.
Best Regards,
Bob Price

On April 20, 2006, pete978 Rowley, MA wrote: I ordered Black Cherry and Stupice seeds from Tomato Bobs. The seeds took 8 days to arrive. After 6 days, I sent an email requesting an update on the status and got no reply. Later, when I received the seeds, I noticed the postmark was the date of my email - 6 days after I placed my order. Most importantly, I did not receive the seeds I ordered. The main reason for my order, the Black Cherry seeds were substituted with Besser Cherry seeds. A very unsatisfactory experience. I will not do business with this company again. |

Individual seed packets were dated, and most contained more seeds than advertised. (He even threw in an extra "freebie" packet of seeds)
Speedy shipping, and a high germination rate. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again. |
