October 18, 2009 | I am glad that I spent the extra money for my very first purchase of daylilies. The plants are healthy and large and I appreciate the bonus plants that were included. I just spent the weekend in the pouring rain and 40 degree weather planting them :)
What I especially appreciate is the engaging CSR who gave me advice on the phone. Very helpful and humorous.

August 26, 2009 | I just received my first order from Oakes I ordered the 10 Mixed Daylilies for $35 to try them out. These plants were huge and very impressive!! Three of them have 4 fans each which I split into extra plants. I recieved a Miss Amelia as my free bonus plant. The FedEx shipping from Oakes only took a day to get to me in Asheville, NC. I am very impressed with the size of my plants and with the quick shipping, I will most definately shop with them again. I can't wait to see them bloom next year!! |

August 22, 2009 | A couple weeks ago, I received an order of 3 daylilies from Oakes. I also received a free bonus daylily!!! I was thrilled with everything about this nursery. The plants arrived very quickly and were packed with extreme, loving care. The quality was wonderful of all four plants!! Super healthy and nice big fans. Their communication emails were very punctual and let me know that my order was received and then when they were shipped and the UPS tracking number. I was so happy with the quality of the plants, the generosity of them sending a free bonus plant, and the friendly, yet accurate way that they run their business. Thank you to the entire Oakes stafff, you are a ray of sunshine for this gardener. |

May 23, 2009 | The 2008/9 South Dakota winter was extremly harsh and unfortunately the lilies I planted last August didn't have enough time to get established to survive the bitter cold. I emailed Oakes Daylilies to ask them what I can do to help future plants survive and the rep emailed me back the same day with good advice and more impressively, asked me what plants needed to be replaced. I assumed because my loss was weather related replacement would be at my expense. What a pleasant suprise to find out that Oakes is so confident about their plants that they even guarantee they'll make it through a SD winter. My new plants just arrived and they're so big I now have to make the bed larger! |

April 12, 2009 | This was our first experience ordering online and Oakes made it a fantastic one.
I placed an order for a few one night. Then my wife wanted a few more, so we placed another order the next day. I called Oakes on a Saturday and left a message asking if they could combine the orders so there was only one shipping charge. They called me back on Monday and said that would not be a problem and informed me when they would ship.
To our surprise they were shipped earlier then expected and they sent us an email that gave us the tracking info that when clicked on it automatically gave you the status of the shipment. When we received them we were extremely happy with the quality of what we ordered and the bonus plants they included. The fans were huge and healthy. We couldn't be happier and will definitely order from them again. (In the near future!) |

April 11, 2009 | I ordered from this company based on the recommendations from this site, and all I can say is WOW! I ordered the "Select Mixed Daylilies" collection which was supposed to be a group of 10, but I actually got 12, and they were huge- the root balls bigger then my hand, all of them had green growth at the tops and fat, healthy roots. I have never seen such "bare root" plants (which usually look shriveled and dead) these are fantastic, and I cannot wait to see what different colors they are when they start blooming. |

Once they sent me the wrong variety but when I contacted them, they promptly replaced with the correct variety and I kept the others at no charge (they also turned out to be beautiful lilies so it was a win-win situation.) Honest and dependable company. |

April 11, 2009 | Received my two daylilies yesterday, bahama butterscotch and bertie ferris. I even got a bonus daylily which I wasn't expecting! Carefree peach. All were very healthy looking, with huge root systems already! I will definitely order from them again! (If I can find room for more lol)

March 22, 2009 | I am thrilled with the daylilies I ordered from this company! I am so glad I found Oakes here on Dave's Garden. I love daylilies, but have had problems getting itty bitty or half dead plants from other companies.
Not so with Oakes! The divisions were no smaller than 8" in diameter and I recieved 2 bonus plants which were just as large and healthy and the ones I purchased. I placed a relatively small order just to see how the plants were, but when I'm done with this review I'll be going back to the website to order the rest of the daylilies I was drooling over!
As a picky gardener, let me say I was 100 percent satisfied with my order. Oakes, you have a new lifetime customer! |

October 17, 2008 | We ordered five "Leeba Orange Crush" Day lilies from Oakes. We were pleasantly surprised when we received the products. These were fresh large fan-divisions, and were packaged with great care. The "fan-divisions" appeared so fresh, it appeared as if these were dug out from our own garden just a few minutes back. The planting instructions were very clear, and they included an extra "bunch" of the same product. They didn't know that we had the room for exactly five Day Lilies. So we planted the extra one in a 12 inch pot simply for experimentation purposes.
I guess that we are kind of lucky customers. For the first time of our lives we started ordering from mail order companies. Since we did not have any favorite company we decided to split our orders to about eight or nine companies. So far we received the products from five of the companies. We had been very pleased with the products and services of three of them. These are: Oakes, Easy To Grow and Van Engelen. |

All of the daylilies, along with the bonus daylily, were carefully packaged, clearly labeled and the size of the bareroots of each plant was most impressive! Since planting all of these daylilies, they have already grown several inches. We can't wait until next season to seem them in bloom. I would definitely recommend this company to our gardeing friends. |

August 26, 2008 | Oh my gosh! I am so excited about the daylilies I purchased from Oakes! I had my eye on a particular variety for a group planting, and when I saw the incredible price Oakes had for that tall, white daylily, I ordered 12. They arrived promptly, carefully packed in a large box, with excelsior (No peanuts - yay!) top and bottom . An enclosed count tag indicated that two bonus plants had been included, but, when you consider the size of the groups... any of them easily could have been divided into two, three or four plants! However, I figure if the experts consider these "a" plant, I'll plant them that way. Anyway, ALL clumps are now sending up fresh new shoots. I consider this company to be a real find, and will definitely order from them often. Thanks to Garden Watchdog for pointing them out. |

August 13, 2008 | I ordered and received 25 mixed plants in July. All the plants were HUGE, healthy and 5 bonus plants were thrown in. The plants were very fresh. I planted them in 90 degree heat and all but maybe two plants have sprung up very quickly. In fact two of them have put up scapes and are blooming this late.
I went ahead and ordered another 25 and received them during even hotter weather and I'm happy to report after a couple weeks all have new growth and a several are growing as if it were spring.
The value is there when you look at the size and health of the plants. |

I ordered two special daylilies for a purple bed I have in my yard. Not only did they arrive promptly, they were huge, 3-fan, with roots almost 6 inches in diameter. Very clean and healthy. Also, I received a bonus plant, and, someone was really thinking, they sent another purple one to me. I soaked them and planted them the next day. Two days later, I have new greenery showing up. These daylilies act like they were never moved, just given a little haircut! I had not been planning on a full daylily bed, but now, hmmm... :) Very impressed. |

June 29, 2008 | When I can purchase daylilies from a mail order company, have them delivered and plant them in 90+ degree temperatures and they jump out of the ground in a few days, I have found my source for daylilies with Oakes Daylilies. It speaks volumes for how Oakes grow and ship healthy plants. I too enjoy the large clumps and the Bonus plants. My problem is making beds and borders to plant all that I want to buy, as the prices are fantastic. I have paid comparable prices for plants of much lesser quality. I am anxious to see mine bloom, but have only been planted about 11/2 weeks, so I'll have to wait awhile. I think all daylily lovers would appreciate the quality and service Oakes Daylilies gives their customers. |

June 28, 2008 | I ordered from Oakes for the first time earlier this spring. I chose Oakes because of the great feedback here on Garden Watchdog, and I was absolutely delighted with my order. I ordered 10 different varieties of daylilies. The clumps were HUGE. In most cases, I had two good sized clumps of each daylily that I had ordered. (each clump being 2-4 fans, so that means Oakes sent me some HUGE daylilies!) They also threw in an extra: and it was not one of the $5 plants either (I would've been delighted with one of those, but this left me floored!). All I can say is WOW. I have given my extra Oakes catalogs to my friends and family who are also avid gardeners. I will definitely shop with Oakes again!
-- oh, and to my amazement, most of the daylilies that were just planted a couple months ago are currently in bloom or bud! I didn't expect anything until next year, but these daylilies are already performing! |

They arrived Friday and are HUGE!!! The folks at Oakes included an extra one for me. My daughter orders from them all the time and her garden is beautiful.
