As of June 2007, the following note is on their website:
These last nine years have been an awesome adventure, but we're moving on to new things. We thank you for your patronage and loyalty over the years. We hope we've inspired folks to preserve the remarkable diversity of roses.
I ordered three roses from them this Spring - two climbers (Awakening and Mme Alfred Carriere) and a miniature, Scentsational. As I expected (the website is well-designed, informative, and honest) all three roses were small but healthy. All have established themselves and have put out new growth. The miniature has done very well and has been blooming since mid-May, the flowers are a wonderful dusky pink and are lightly scented. I am not expecting the climbers to produce flowers for a year or two, but Awakening managed to sneak one in already!
I have ordered from Uncommon Rose several times over the years and just wanted to leave positive feedback. The plants are always healthy, always thrive, and the owners are a great wealth of knowledge when it comes to roses.
Do not hesitate to order from this fine company :)

I ordered two miniature roses and a climbing rose from The Uncommon Rose. Shortly thereafter I received a notice from them that they had just received the shipment from their supplier for the climbing rose I ordered and they stated they would like to watch them for a couple of weeks to be sure they were going to be okay and not stress out a young plant with two quick back-to-back shipments that could harm it. I thought that was exceptionally intelligent and diligent on their part and I was totally agreeabel to wait an additional couple of weeks to receive my plants than take a chance on stressing and possibly killing it with too much activtity.
Anyway, the plants arrived as they promised and they were in wonderful condition and continue to thrive quite nicely now three weeks after getting them.
The price and shipping costs were very reasonable and the customer service as I stated was excellent. The selection of uncommon roses cannot be any better than what they currently offer.
This was my first order from them and I won't hesitate to order from them in the future or recommend them to anyone else.

In the summer of 2006, I ordered 2 mini roses. They were lovely plants that bloomed almost immediately after planting and continued to bloom off and on all season. I never got around to adding any extra protection to these tiny roses for the winter, which was bizarre by anyone's definition this year. They both came thru with flying colors and are green and growing this spring.

I've ordered from The Uncommon Rose several times and have always been very pleased with their roses. The plants are healthy and well packaged. They have a good selection and are always adding new varieties. It's also nice that they notify you when a rose you are wanting becomes available. Scott is very nice and always helpful if you have a question. I will most definitely order again.
this is my second order in the last 3 years. the plants are well rooted and grow
great !. the selection of hard to get roses makes me come back to look again and again!

Nice selection of hard-to-find roses. Beautiful website. Love my new rose. It was on the small side, but it's healthy with no spots or wilted leaves. I also fully expected it to be on the small side because this is Spring and I had to wait for the rose to become available for shipping. The rose even has a bud on it that I'm not wanting to remove, but I know I should.
Packaging was excellent and they included a couple of nice postcards and some printed instructions on how to care for the new rose. Very nice.
They also ignored my panic over a burp in my browser that was preventing me from ordering the rose until I closed my browser and re-opened it. I appreciate the fact that they didn''t make fun of me. :-) Hey, I really wanted this particular rose...
I'll definitely look to them again when I can't find a rose that's a must-have. And their website is full of beautiful photography and useful information - I use it as reference all the time.

Last year, I ordered from The Uncommon Rose, and received very nice wrapped roses. I followed all their advice upon receiving them, and planted them. They are doing just fine, and made it through the winter. I placed another order last week, and my new roses just arrived. I really like the rare roses that they seem to have, and ordered a "green rose", Rainforest, and Magic Carousel. I am very happy with their roses, and will continue to order from them in the future. I am thankful that they provide such a unique opportunity for growing such different types of roses.

The ultimate in great customer service. Last spring I placed an order w/ UR, which included 1 Sweet Chariot. I was disappointed with the weak plant I received but thought I could nurse it back to full health. It died. Several months later I called them about something but took the opportunity to mention my experience w/ Sweet Chariot. I told them I didn't expect a replacement after so many months have passed but I did want them to know about this experience. To my extreme surprise and delight I received another Sweet Chariot a few days ago, strong and healthy. I will definitely buy from this vendor and highly recommend.
I also encourage people to become familiar with return policies before placing an order. I think serious vendors will always have such policies in place, but we, as customers, also need to be reasonable. In this particular instance I consider myself very lucky, but I have since learned to become familiar with this policy for reason stated above.

Last spring I ordered Julia's rose. It arrived in perfect condition, well wrapped, fast, etc. It died within a week--I sent the nursery an email, they replied "What did I want them to do." I sent 2 more emails and got no response--I would have taken a replacement or credit. I have never heard back from them.
Well, I read up a lot on that particular rose and discovered it was finicky. I realized that perhaps I had done a few things wrong after all. So I have not pursued the matter further.
This was not enough to stop me from ordering 2 more roses from them this year as their product was excellent.
What upset me was their customer neglect regarding email.
So I hate to give a negative as their product is good, so I will compromise and give them a neutral. On September 13th, 2006, seawatch888 changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:
Since I wrote the above I have resolved the issues and wish to change my rating to "Positive." Thanks for responding
Shipment was fast, plants arrived packaged with great care, soil was still moist. The instructions are detailed and helpful. I will order again! On May 23rd, 2007, Madisonwigarden added the following:
I placed a new order in 2007 for about a dozen plants. They came healthy, and I am completely sure they didn't know they were being shipped as they were in perfect shape when I unwrapped each plant, and there wasn't a trace of shock or damage on any of the plants. Two were in bloom -- one had three perfect flowers, and a few others were about to bloom. All are planted and very happy to be here. I will order from this company again because I don't think you can have too many roses.
I ordered two pairs of minis as my first ever mail order roses. The Twisters were fine. The pair of Red Cascades both had a moderate case of powdery mildew, though they were well packed and separate from each other. I sent email to the company asking what treatment they recommended, and never got a reply. I found an organic treatment on the web and used it and removed the worst afflicted parts of the plants. They seem to be rebounding, hence neutral feedback. However, I would really have appreciated a reply to my email. As a sidenote, they had answered a previous email about the plant spacing recommended for minis (and I did appreciate the reply on that).
I have dealt with this company on several occasions. They provide excellent roses at reasonable prices on their own root stock. I have had several for a couple years, and they make it through the winter in SW Michigan. When I did have a problem with a couple because of late planting, they cheerfully refunded my money.
I ordered two Lyda roses last week, and received them this week. They're small, as expected, but they arrived in almost perfect condition, with their potting mix still moist. One of them had a couple of yellow leaves, but other than that they were amazingly unaffected by their journey. They also appear to have very well-developed roots. I planted them today, according to the detailed instructions that came with them, and I expect them to flourish. I also expect to be ordering more from The Uncommon Rose in the future.
In mid March I ordered three Killarney Rose bands. I was pleased with the service and order. Due to time constrants my Killarney's spent 3 days in their box before they were unpacked. The three immediately perked up and were planted on the fourth day. They were small and each has grown at least a foot since planting and bloomed. I definitely recommend the "Uncommon Rose." Thank you for having my Delta Zeta Killarney Rose.
Excellent Selection, Shipped When I Asked, Reasonable Shipping, Healthy Correctly Labeled Plant. Email Communication Was Excellent.
I Highly Recommend The Uncommon Rose.

I ordered 15 roses on 3/2/06 and asked that they be shipped in mid April. I am pleased to say the order arrived as requested in a timely manner and in very good shape. The instructions sent with the roses are excellant.
The Uncommon Rose provides small, healthy roses grown on their own roots in small pots. Their nice selection of OGRs (old garden roses), especially gallicas, is a favorite of mine, and their web site is easy to manuever. Customer service is excellent - I received a prompt refund for a mislabled rose last year. Highly recommended.

I'd emailed them back and forth about a service they provide I haven't seen anywhere else. They send email notifications when any items you are interested in comes in stock. It is quite clear that it's not ordering, but just a notification. The responses I received were prompt and polite. When I mentioned not having a credit card, I was told that's not necessary for a phone order.
I think more companies should have that feature of not necessitating a credit card. It is highly convenient.
I received the email notification yesterday and called them earlier. The person was nice, patient with the phone (it cuts out in certain areas of the house).
Couple years ago I ordered a large shipment of miniature roses from The Uncommon Rose. All the roses came in perfectly. All of them took to my garden right away because they were received in such great shape. I especially like this company for offering a lot of the forgotten roses. If you are looking for a uniques rose check them out to see if they have it because most likely if it is "uncommon" they will have. I would give this company an A+ for service and product quality

I ordered some very difficult to find roses from The Uncommon Rose. As soon as they were available, they were shipped and arrived almost all in great shape. The Julia's Rose was a little on the peaked side, but once it was potted, it perked up immediately and all are in excellent condition. I highly recommend The Uncommon Rose!

I recently purchased a climbing butterscotch rose from this company. They have a lot of hard to find roses. The rose arrived via the postal service, too say the least the handling they did was not the best. Lots of the soil was out of the pot in the package. The rose was a little small for the price, but it is growing fast. I will definitely order from them again, and would recommend them to anyone looking for own root roses.
I just received my order from this company and I have to say I wasn't very pleased. Some of the roses I bought were crushed and a few had their stems snapped in half. Two of them are extremely small. I usually order through another company and their roses are tall and healthy looking, they either have blooms or lots of buds on them. I don't expect the ones I have received from the Uncommon Rose to have any buds on it until next year or later. That's how small they are. I don't think I will order from them again. I was very disappointed.

Prices are about in the middle of the range charged by the top own-root specialty sellers. Their website (catalog), attention to detail, and the roses themselves seem to me exceptional.
I bought 1 gallon and 1 band. Hardly a big order for them. Yet when there was a credit card glitch (no fault of theirs or mine), they followed up multiple times by phone and e-mail to get it resolved and get the order shipped out asap (which they did).
The gallon rose was a good 2 1/2 feet tall and a really established plant. It bloomed within a week, the very day I planted it, and is thriving. The smaller band plant is putting on new foliage quite rapidly and is healthy.
For novices like me their website is a superb guide. It's the *only* one of the many I've looked at where I don't feel I've got to double check on disease susceptibility and best growing conditions in a non-commercial source.
I ordered several roses last fall from a few different companies, and even though some from the Uncommon Rose were smaller when I rec'd them, this spring all of their roses are outperforming all of the others. Even though I had rabbit damage and didn't expect any bloom from some of them they are all doing great. I ordered more this spring and they have very fast shipping time, I rec'd order within about 4 days of placing it. I love this company. On November 7th, 2006, PlantsnobIN added the following:
I ordered more roses this spring and again this fall. I requested a ship date for spring earlier than what most people would plant in this area, and they contacted me to make sure I really wanted them that early. I did, and the roses are doing great. I also ordered for fall, again later than most people would, and they again contacted me to make sure. Not many companies would take the trouble to call a customer. I could not be happier with this company and will continue to order from them.On June 12th, 2007, PlantsnobIN added the following:
Sadly, they are now out of business as of yesterday. I found out last week that they would be closing, so I ordered more roses last Thursday, and rec'd them yesterday. When I talked to them, they said the were taking down the website. He recommended Sequoia Nursery, and said that they had subcontracted some of their roses anyway. So maybe some of my roses had really came from Sequoia. I was always happy with the service and the plants from Uncommon and will miss their website.
My experience with this company was stress-free--easy website, confirmation emails, delivery on time, with robust healthy plants blooming in the box. Very very positive experience! On April 25th, 2007, RosyRapture added the following:
Just received another order from the company. It is always a delight to open the box and discover such gorgeous unique plants. This time, over half the roses (on an order of 10 or so) were budded and blooming. All the plants were wonderfully rooted, healthy and green. There was no damage whatsoever. The varieties are simply outstanding. On the website, I love the selection, the descriptions, the photos. The only criticism I have is that some varieties on the site are lacking pictures or descriptions, although the majority of entries are complete. This company is definitely one of the 'Creme de la Creme' of rose nurseries, as far as quality, professionalism and selection. I rate The Uncommon Rose as one of my very top rose nursery sources.

I ordered four mini climbers and an OGR from The Uncommon Rose. All arrived very healthy in great condition. Two of them were already blooming but most importantly the roots were very hearty for band roses. I am impressed with their selection and quality of roses.
I have always been happy with Uncommon Rose. They are a great company to deal with. My last order for 6 new mini's came last week, and I was thrilled by the size of the Pink Poodle...it was actually already in bloom!
This is my 3rd or 4th time ordering through them and I have always been extremely happy with my purchace.
The roses have always arrived in good condition and the soil still moist. Sometimes the bush is smaller, but that can be attributed to just having been transfered from their growing sheds. Each one I have received so far has had a well established root system , so the size doesn't matter that much because they have taken care to ensure the plant will do well, which is more important than the initial size in my opinion. I must say however, that the bulk of the roses I have bought have been of good size and vigor.
goatster Pine Mt, GA (Zone 7b) (19 reviews) April 19, 2005
The actual ordering experience went well, but I must say I was disappointed in my purchase. For the price I paid, I found the roses to be a bit small in comparison to another company I have bought from. Unless they have something I just cannot find some place else, I doubt I would buy from them again.
Pixydish Lakewood, WA (Zone 8a) (13 reviews) April 16, 2005
Last year I ordered Cafe Ole and Green Ice. Maybe I got the last of the ones they had, because neither of them was worth writing home about. They were really crushed and took a long time to perk up. They did not do well all year and I had very few blooms. They do have a wonderful selection, but I won't be ordering from them anymore.
MGHTYDX Ladera Ranch, CA (11 reviews) April 5, 2005
I have placed many orders with them this year. I think I have become addicted to The Uncommon Rose. They shipped the orders promptly, and the roses all looked very healthy upon arrival. If I had more room, I would buy even more from them.
I have ordered from this company the past 2 years; everything has arrived timely and in great shape. Everything has grown nicely. This company has alot of unique and hard to find roses. I order mini's from them; I have been very happy with everything I've received.
I ordered 3 roses last spring and found everything to be satisfactory. I would certainly order again.
mickgene Linden, VA (Zone 6a) (4 reviews) February 19, 2005
The entire experience from shopping their terrific website to receiving very well-packaged, healthy plants to being notified via e-mail when out-of-stock items are back in stock so I can be sure not to miss them a second time is wonderful.
PERFECT...and VERY POSITIVE...I could not be more pleased with my purchase. The roses were absolutely perfect with one sporting a lovely bud (mid-June). I am familiar with own-root roses and if ordered early in the season would not be concerned with "sticks". In fact, early-season sticks would be preferable in order to avoid shipping shock. It is a delight to have a source for obscure, out-of-fashion roses for a 110-year-old victorian garden.
Two orders with this company and experience with many others would lead me to recommend them highly. Sometimes it has been a little frustrating to "wait" for a rose not currently available, but all gardeners wait. The own-root roses they offer are vigorous, establish quickly, are well-packaged, and arrive in a timely manner. They are a great source for roses not commonly available that are of interest to northern tier gardeners.

THE BEST OWN-ROOT ROSES. THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE NICEST WEBSITE. I am so happy with the roses I have ordered from The Uncommon Rose - vigorous, well rooted, healthy - not just rooted cuttings.
