Hello - I am the president of Home Garden and Patio Outlet (homegardenandpatio.com). I just want to report that I was hospitalized in the fall of 2006 and had some issues with the order processing at that time. I have since hired additional people to take care of the order processing in case this would occur again (sure hope not - that wasn't fun). Also, please note that we have been in business since 2004 and this is the only period we have had any customer satisfaction issues.

My purpose for writing this is to assure all our customers that the problems that occured at that time are no longer an issue and our customers are extremely pleased with our personable and prompt customer service.

Thank you for your interest in Home Garden and Patio and I hope we have a chance to provide you with our outstanding customer service on an order you have placed or are considering placing with us.

On March 8, 2014, we ordered a Lane recliner from Home, Garden and Patio's website and charged it to our credit card. When a week passed and my card had not been charged, we called the company, left several phone messages and finally got an answer. The owner said that they were changing credit card processors and that if we would pay by check, he would give us a 3% discount. We sent a check for $741.07, which cleared on March 21, 2014. We were told we would get an immediate confirmation of the sale, but to this day we haven't heard a word from the company or been able to get an answer by phone or e-mail. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of greater Kansas City, but after two attempts, the business did not respond to them, either. They have revoked BBB accreditation and now give the business an F rating.There have been several other complaints registered against them through BBB and can be viewed on their website.The address of the business is actually a private residence which was listed for sale on April 8 with the price reduced by $5,000 on May 1, 2014. There is no reference to a business at this address. While I doubt that we will ever see a refund, I would warn others that this does not seem to be a legitimate business. I am contacting government agencies and encourage others to do the same.

I ordered a wrought iron pergola on April 4, 2013 and was told that retail orders would be filled before individual orders; hence I needed to wait 3 months for delivery. My credit card was charged immediately. I waited 4 months, heard nothing, so began placing phone calls asking where the item was. I was told that the manufacturer was not responding to Home Garden and Patio's attempts to communicate, and I was asked to wait further while more attempts were made to find the individual who makes these pergolas. More phone calls followed, and I was told that other possible craftsmen were being found. In fall of 2013, I asked for a refund. I was told that this was not a problem, and that my credit card would be refunded. I waited. Nothing happened. A few weeks later, I called again was told that the owner would talk with Accounting. Nothing happened. I began making calls every week, and finally was told that there are no funds to refund me with. I warn possible customers that they place orders to this company at their own risk. The owners seem like friendly, nice people, but they take the unusual step of charging credit cards immediately and asking customers to wait for months for their goods, and then do not comply with attempts to be refunded if the item never shows. Waiting for the item takes the transaction beyond the time deadline that most credit card companies allow when trying to stop a transaction, leaving the customer in a bad position.

Ordered a chair from HG and P late April, even talked to a customer service rep before ordering. Sent payment and received a confirmation a week later. Order time was 5-7 weeks which puts us in that time frame now. Began calling and emailing since June 13th with no answer to emails or phone messages. Now I am beginning to think I got ripped off. Sure would like to hear something from a representative soon.
On June 16th, 2011, astoplight changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

Owner contacted me via phone today and related that he had responded via email but for whatever reason I continue not to have difficulty receiving emails from HG and P. He advised order should ship within a week or so.

The original 5-7 weeks has not going on week 12. Was told that the original order had been accidentally cancelled but was reinstated with a rush. Was then told Aug 3 probably sooner. Still have not received word on when we can expect the chair. Waiting on Ben to return from out of town and answer my emails. Order at your own risk.
On August 18th, 2011, astoplight changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following:

Latest update, more excuses from ben henley the owner who stated the chair would be ready Aug 3 for shipment now advises lane never received payment from them and has offered us a refund which we have accepted but as of yet not been received.

ben has had our money since April 28th and we cannot be sure he actually ordered a chair from Lane for us, we have no proof only his word. I do know our several emails and phone calls mostly went unanswered and when they were it was just another excuse or delay. I have a formal complaint ready for the BBB and Lenexa Police Dept. should he fail to return our money. Order at your own risk!!!

Despite the negative reviews, I ordered from this company for they had the only wood wicker item to fit my needs, a vanity bench. It is to serve four purposes- bench, side table, ottoman and table for my dehumidifier in the summer. Not only did I receive the item in four business days, but it is as described, well made, reasonably priced and perfect for my situation. Needless to say, I am pleased.

After reading other comments posted here I was a little nervous about ordering from this company. However, they had the chairs I had been looking for for months, so I took a chance, and I am so glad I did! First, the chairs arrived in the stated time frame. Second, they are exactly as pictured and described. It seems that they have ironed out any previous problems they had. I would order from them again.

We are in Kansas City where Home Garden and Patio is located and hoped to pick up a mailbox that I wanted to order for our friends as a gift. We found their offices are here, but they have warehouses across the nation for delivery. Although we would have loved to go pick up our product, they shipped it out that day and we received the mailbox in no time at all and it arrived with no problems. We loved working with Ben and thought the customer service was great. He helped us figure out which mailbox would work best for our friends since their homes association only allows certain styles. We purchased a wrought iron patio set from Home Garden and Patio and were very pleased with their customer support. If you get a chance to deal with Kristi, do so. She was great. One piece did come in damaged and they handled the claim and got us a replacement with no troubles. It was smooth and timely. We will buy from them again when we get our Bistro Table next year.

I had a wonderful experience dealing with Home Garden and Patio. I ordered a mailbox online and I am surprised that this company has ever received a negative rating.

I am one of those people that rarely goes out and gives positive reviews, but do give negative reviews when I'm unhappy with a company's customer service or product quality, and I think most people probably do the same thing.

But reading the comments on this site about them, I think I must add my two cents. Not only did their customer service take care of me from beginning to end of the order, they were willing to allow me to change my order in mid process, because I changed my mind.

I not only recommend Home Garden and Patio Outlet to my friends and family, I will DEFINITELY order from them again. I feel confident that the issues these few people have had with them have been resolved now. From the post made by the president of the company, it sounds like he got on top of the issues and squared things up, after his hospitalization.

I ordered something one month ago, have not received it, and have tried several times to contact through email and by phone. Their answering machine doesn't have any room for more messages, and I haven't gotten an email reply from them. So buy at your own risk!

I ordered a bench from the above company on July 1, 2006. The transaction was posted to my account on July 3, 2006 in the amount of $1,356.99. The anticipated delivery time was 4 to 6 weeks. As of this date, I have not received the merchandise.

I have called and e-mailed them on numerous occasions to get the status of this order. The last e-mail , requested cancellation of the order. I also sent a certified letter on September 5, 2006 as back-up. The postal service has since attempted delivery of this correspondence and a notice was left. In the meantime, I have heard nothing and have not received a credit for this item as of this date.

I contacted one of the partner links, Retractable Awnings and Window Awnings, that is listed on their website and the representative told me that he has received numerous complaints such as mine regarding this company. Their phone number is 305-620-5610. The representative told me that they have removed Home, Garden and Patio from their website as a partner link.

It’s sad that on-line companies conduct business, or should I say “lack of business”, like this. Bottom line, this company should be shut down. Let's make sure that we take these people down!!

The Johnson County District Attorney's Office is well aware of this company. I have filed an online complaint through the FBI and would recommend that anyone else taken by this company do the same. To file a complaint with Johnson County call 913-715-5000. This number will direct you to the District Attorney's Office, then you can choose the number for the Consumer Fraud Division. I also intend to contact Google and report this company. With enough complaints, perhaps they'll be able to take this website down. Feel free to contact me if you want more information.

Unfortunately, I have to concur in the recommendation not to patronize this www vendor. I had the same experience: no replies to emails or voicemails, and no response to a request for a cancellation & refund (after a month of trying to learn the status of my order).

I can't tell if they're totally inept or if this is an elaborate scam (but see http://www.iccart.com/). But with most credit cards, if you wait more than 60 days to dispute any of their charges, the charge will stick. That may be what they're counting on.

My card was charged expediently, but 60 days later, still no product. E-mails and phone messages to customer service bring no reply. I actually got someone on the phone twice, but both times they had no information on my order, and promised to look into it and call me back, which they never did. I finally e-mailed for my order to be cancelled, and the money refunded. That e-mail was also never returned, and no refund came. I'm now disputing the $500 credit card charge. Much of their merchandise is shipped directly from the manufacturer. My advice: go straight to the manufacturer and order, even if it costs a little more.

Nice website and decent prices. Absolutely NO customer service. Ordered and paid for a 100' hose over a month ago. Received an acknowledgement immediately but since then: No hose. No replies to numerous inquiries using the "Check Status" button. No one answers the phone - ever. DO NOT BUY FROM http://www.homegardenandpatio.com
