There is a good reason why some nurseries are on the top 30 list and Garden Crossings sure makes the grade!. Great plants arrive in great packaging looking as fresh as though they just came out of the garden.... not a leaf destroyed or out of place nor a drop of soil in the box they came in. They are high quality (Proven Winners) for the calibrichoa and other plants. The pricing is very fair for the size and quality of the plants. I am writing one year later after having returned to Garden Crossings for a second go-around. There were no great surprises. Once again, I am so tremendously impressed with the high quality of the bedding plants and the Proven winner plants. All appear to be "fresher" and more viable than plants I can obtain locally. The packaging is impeccable. Again, the pricing is very fair. The customer service (Heidi) is the best. My only regret is I am running out of space to add more plants right now... I haven't given up though... there must be a corner that needs a little color...

An assortment of plants I ordered arrived yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased. This was my first order from Garden Crossings and it won't be my last. Every plant is large, vibrant, and healthy. What I particularly am happy about is how the packing was done. The packing was very secure, but at the same time, it was very easy for me to unpack the individual plants from the carton. I order plants from other sources, only to find that although the packing is well-done and very secure, it takes a lot of time and effort to remove the plants from the carton because of excessive tape, cardboard, staples, and such. In these cases, the packing is overdone and difficult to remove. Two of the plants I purchased were lantana, which I had a difficult time locating from other online nurseries. Garden Crossings will be my new source for online plants.

I found this company online operating as "The Plant Palette".
I wanted to plant some Helleborus for my wife. In order to get all the varieties I wanted, I ended up buying from 3 different online vendors. Most sold them for $20 each, but The Plant Palette had the Golden Sunrise variety online as an internet special for $10 each, so I bought two, but was wary of what the quality would be like for that price.
The Plant Palette's arrived first. They were also the largest and healthiest of the three. Amazing. By far the best company of the three. On April 23rd, 2011, srvadt added the following:

I hate to give them a negative because I had heard and read so many positive experience.
I received a 50 gift certificate and purchased Lilac Bloomerang, and two other garden plants and none survived. I am an experienced gardener and have been able to purchase half dead plants from local nursery fall sales and by planting in a good compost and mulch the plants survive. This was not the case with the purchases from this nursery.
I am now stuck with another gift certificate to this company and have had it for 3 months and I am hesitating ordering from them. I am going to tell my friends to not get me GC from them again. At their prices I can get better plants at other online vendors.On January 8th, 2012, audwoman changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:
After posting the rating I received a email from GC owner. They expressed that they would like to understand the problems I experienced and if they could make it right.
I have placed a order and they agreed to send replacement plants and I have ordered additional plants with my gift certificate.
That is very good customer service when people notice when a customer is not happy and reach out to make it right even from a 2010 order. That is a long way back to offer replacement plants that did not survive.
For my area the best time for planting is May so I will return when I get the new order and report the size and health of the new order.

Garden Crossings sent an Email offer for clematises at $9.95 each. Though I've said I don't need any more I bought 8 of them and they were delivered by Fed Ex.
Each and every plant arrived moist and in perfect shape. The size was impressive, especially in view of the price. I was delighted with the packaging and the absence of peanuts. As I went to plant the first one I was also impressed by the roots.
This was a recent email I sent to Garden Crossings after purchasing CLEMATIS ROOGUCHI and CLEMATIS "My ANGEL": (These were plants same size or bigger---definitely healthy, superfine!---- than my local specialty garden store that sells their clems for outrageous amounts...and doesn't even have the variety GC has...so here was my email to the staff at GC----

I wanted to say what a RAVE review I have to give your company....I

I found exactly the plants I wanted on the Garden Crossings' web site and I placed my first order with them on 6/21 and received all 10 plants in good condition on 6/23. The plants were healthy and of good size. I will order from them again and would recommend them to others.
Purchased 6 Heuchera. They were large plants and were excellently packed each in there own box. They were very secure and no soil was lost. I have purchased from them before and found that the plants arrived healthy and were packed well. They cost a little be more but you get what you pay for.
Just received my 1st order [so far] for 2011 & once again, all I could do was smile while unpacking the plants I purchased!!! Plant material always arrives in a healthy, beautiful condition. I truly appreciate the attention & care they take in packing the plants to ensure a safe transport with minimal damage. Size of plant material I've always received was WOW, too, which I've previously shared with the folks @ Garden Crossings.

I ordered 3 Silver Moon and 3 Venosa Violacea clematis. One of the V.V was out of stock, but the five plants shipped were BIG, healthy, and had the absolute BEST packaging I have ever seen. The order arrived promptly and in great shape. I ordered clematis from 4 different online sources this spring, and these were the overall best. I highly recommend them as a place to purchase well-established, healthy clematis plants.
I just received my $150 order from Garden Crossing. All of the plants arrived safely in a very carefully packaged shipping box. They are very decent-sized, and of really good quality. I am very thrilled about the purchase. This is my second order from them. I would go back to Garden Crossing for more plants as I need them. Thank you so much, Garden Crossing.

I found this company by chance when I ordered a Clethra Vanilla Spice and a flowering Quince from another company and was very dissapointed with the size I received. They were seriously no larger than a stick. I googled Clethra Vanilla spice and this company "popped" up on the search. I saw that they offered both plants in a 2 gallon sized pot and thought I'd give them a try. I figured they couldn't be any worse than what i had all ready received.
I am so happy that I did. For about twice the cost of the other plants, I received plants 4 to 5 times the size from Garden Crossings. They arrived huge, healthy and the root system is in great shape. I will be ordering from them again. I wish I could post a picture of the plants side by side just to show how nice these platns are.On May 19th, 2011, Jlmyers72 changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following:
My flowering quince arrived yesterday. It was totally infested with afids. I have never seen so many on one plant before. I called the company and e-mailed Heidi photo's and am waiting to hear if their entire stock is infested or not. Heidi refunded the money the next day for the afid infested Quince. All though disapointed that the plant had SO many bugs, because they handled the refund so quickly, I am changing back to a positive. I eneded up going to a local nursery here in the Detroit area and they had a Quince in a 3 gallon pot for quite a bit cheaper anyways. I will use them again, but only for items I can't find at Bordines.

I really would like to give them a Positive rating, but since I'm a little disappointed with my plants, I cannot.
I bought annual flower plants. On the positive side, the two trays of impatiens arrived looking great and are growing well. The Coralberry Punch Superbells were of a great size and healthy.
Also on the positive side was how well their customer service responded to my questions and my add-on's to my order.
The not-so-positive. A tray of Zahara Zinnias arrived very dry, dumped out of their tray and looking poorly. I have no idea how that could have happened since they were the only plants it happened to. We have less than half of them left, and not one plant looks great. Hopefully that will change.
The Goldalia Scarlet (3) were very small and not healthy looking. I have thrown one in the garbage so far and still hoping the other two will actually start looking better and grow.
So why not contact them ? I did. I called about the zinnias, but unfortunately I could not send the required photos, so I did not even bother to call about the dahlia's. I have very rarely had any kind of problems with mail order plants, but when I did, I did not have to send proof.
I will probably again in the future, but will be more careful about what I do buy. Wish I would have just bought a bunch of Supertunias !!!!
I have placed several orders with Garden Crossing both last year and this. Yes, their prices are high. But you absolutely get what you pay for- LARGE- sized HEALTHY plants, packaged perfectly,
and prompt attention to order. You are also notified when the plants ship-important to know in the summer! All in all, an excellent experience. In addition, they have a wide variety of plants, with many unusual varieties. Last year's plants are thriving and the one's I recently planted are doing well too. We have choices as to where we spend our money, and Garden Crossings is a wonderful company to deal with.

I was thrilled yesterday when my Garden Crossings order arrived. This company is using the most fantastic packing box system so the plants arrived in perfect A-1 condition. Were easily unpackaged in a clean manner.
I have been so upset with the condition of arrivals from other online companies and this was a most welcome surprise.The plants were large, full and green !!

Undoubtedly the healthiest, largest, most well-rooted plants of any mail order nursery, and I've tried quite a few. Outstanding communication, perfect packaging (almost excessively so), and shipping dates always met.
I just received 3 clematis from GC and 3 from a competitor who touts clematis as one of their specialties. GC plants are larger, healthier, and cheaper!!
Pricing for GC is on the steep side (though obviously there are exceptions). Particularly pricey on annuals. If another highly rated nursery has the same plant for significantly less, I'll order from the competitor. For special plants that I really want, GC is tough to beat, though.
Finally, don't expect to see a lot of hard-to-find genera or varieties. GC sells popular stuff and new releases. But if they've got what you want, you can count on them every step of the way, every time. Their quality and consistency are hard to beat. On May 18th, 2011, Get_growing added the following:

I recently ordered numerous perennials and they were shipped very quickly and were safely packed and in great shape when they arrived. Good sized plants and very healthy in appearance. The prices seemed good in comparison to several other companies from which I did some comparison shopping. One thing I was unhappy about was that two boxes shipped separately from the main shipment, which was fine, but these boxes were obviously mishandled and traveled on their sides so that when I opened them, the soil was all over the place and the plants were lose in their pots. They were also growing sideways, so they must have been this way for several days. The boxes are clearly marked as living plants with several arrows and "This Way Up" indicators, so this was the fault of Fed Ex, not Garden Crossings, just an FYI. Will see how they do now that they are planted.

I ordered a clematis and a lilac from this company. The plants arrived very well packed and were beautiful - very full. They looked like I picked them up from a local nursery. I am very pleased!On May 13th, 2011, tpeterson added the following:

The small plants I received were well packaged but uprooted during shipping due to an immature root system. Garden Crossings had become aware of problems with this plant this year after my order had shipped and had taken them out of their catalog till they grew them out a bit. The company has offered a full refund.
It seems counterintuitive to give a "positive" rating to an unsatisfactory transaction yet the manner in which Garden Crossing handled the situation left a "positve" taste in my mouth.
I would try them again.

I've placed several orders and I've been happy with all of them. The packaging is great and plants arrive looking healthy; all have thrived in my garden. I do think the prices are too high. I usually only order things from GC that I can't easily find elsewhere. I also wish they didn't chop off the tops of some perennials. I ordered irises this spring and the tops were all chopped off, including a few flower scapes). I doubt they will bloom this year. All considering, the postives outweigh the minor complaints.
This was my first order from this company. I ordered hostas and echinaceas. They arrived in beautiful condition, very well packed, large healthy plants with good root systems and lots of soil. They looked like they had just been taken from the nursery--really beautiful! I won't hesitate to use this company again.
Ordered a dozen angelonia (annual flowers) from GC as my 1st order. Was amazed when I received them. They were in 5" pots with at least 4 stems per pot, all 6" high or higher. They were green and very healthy looking: no wilting or broken stems. ALL of the dirt was still in the pots. Received them just about 1 week before they should be planted, which gave me time to harden them off. While the price was no bargain basement deal, I have paid as much for these at local nursery centers and only gotten half as many stems per pot. This shipment was the best I ever remember receiving, and I order a lot of plants thru the mail. Kudos to GC!

I recieved my order of Rosemary Arp on 4/29/11. I was a bit surpised at how small they were for the price paid but they all look very healthy. The packaging could have been done better/neater as there was soil all over the place inside the box and the slots for each plant weren't all tabbed out to keep the plants from moving around. Never the less I'm leaving positive ratings because they look healthy and I recieved what I wanted.

Just received my shipment of several climatis: neatly packed, healthy plants. Am pleased. Plan to shop with them again in the future.
I have started container gardening since moving to Maryland. I wanted King Tut Cyperus to be the "Thriller" in some of my pots. On this site there were 4 vendors shown to have this. I chose to use Garden Crossings. Once on the site, I ordered two of the King Tuts and some other plants. My plants arrived yesterday. They were beautifully packed, in execellent health and exceeded the sizes I expected. I will definitely order from them again.

My experience is with the plant-hunt itself. In searching for Scaevola aemula in the Garden Crossings LCC website I find it is not available, yet it is shown as available on the Dave's Garden Plant Scout. How Can this be? While trying to be efficient and using Dave's Garden I get sent on a wild goose chase.

Their plants are huge and screaming with health and vigor. I have not seen better packing than Garden Crossings'. Plants arrive with not a leaf out of place, nor a speck of soil disturbed. I am a big cheapskate and I always think their prices are steep UNTIL my plants arrive, then I'm delighted.
I ordered 4 clematis vines. All arrived with large healthy roots and grew very well over the summer. 2 of them even produced small flowers.

I wish I had checked this link before ordering. I have ordered hundreds of bulbs from another company. I just ordered the Heuchera Osidian and the Heuchera Alabama Surprise from Garden Crossings. They did not have 2 other heucheras in stock. So I ordered them from this other company with a luscious catalogue and stunning website. The Heucheras from Garden Crossings were ten times the size AND cheaper than those from the other company. They arrived today (10/14) beautifully packed, glossy & healthy via Fedex, after ordering them on 10/9/10. I was shocked to see the other 2 inch high Heucheras from the other company. I doubt that they will survive the winter. I will post back with the results. I will definitely use Garden Crossings again for any unusual item that I can't find locally. Thanks.

The plant I received was fraudulently small for the price extorted -- and in a huge box. A waste of my money and of a good portion of a perfectly good tree for the 3 foot tall cardboard box holding the six inch plant. From the reviews here, I gather that my experience was not typical or that there are a lot of inexperienced mail-order gardeners who have never ordered from a reputable mail order nursery and received that for which they paid. It's all relative.
