First time ordering from this company, but it won't be the last. No complaints whatsoever.....Large sized 'hens' and many 'chicks' with each plant. Labeled and packaged well. Very Pleased!

WOW!!!!! WOW!!!!! I've just received my second order from North Hills Nursery. The plants are very well packaged and labeled, I ordered on Thursday and they were here on Monday. Awesome plants!!! Healthy and once planted they've just "come alive". They are fascinating and addicting! I now have 81 different varieties and am tickled pink! John has been so helpful with fast return emails to my questions. He is a delight and a credit to the sempervivum world! Thanks!!! I would love to visit his nursery sometime and hope I can!

John, you have exceeded my wildest expectations! I guess I usually order off-season but have always been very happy with the semps you sent. This last order, though, was stunning. The variety is wonderful and the plants are just gorgeous. Very large hens with tons of chicks. We ordered this time to fill a wholesale order of planted hypertufa containers, which we make. This is the best nursery I have ever had the priviledge to visit. I new somewhat I wanted before I arrived and John had the plants ready and waiting. I was so impressed with the quality of his plants, that my husband and I spent another 2 hours touring the nursery. Of course we found many plants that we just had to purchase. We left North Hills Nursery with hundreds of new hens and chicks to add to our garden. John was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. If you ever have the chance to visit I would highly recommend the stop. The internet just does not due the hospiality and plant quality justice. I will gladly revisit the nursery again in the very near future. The 2 hour drive is well worth the service that we received.

More bang for your buck here! John is Very generous with nice size plants very healthy and plenty of babies.I ordered on Friday got a email Monday that they had been sent got them on Wednesday! Now thats service. I got semps from other mail order places they but this is by far the best. He sent me some real nice bonus plants too with tags. I discovered this nursery while doing a search for Sempervivums.
Once on the site, it was like a kid in a candy store! So many colorful varieties are pictured on his website. I bought a collection and many specific ones that i wanted.
They arrived promptly, each packaged and labeled in its own paper bag.
There were bonus plants and many came with chicks.
I'm afraid i'm now addicted to these lovely succulents.
I'm sure i'll be back to buy more!

I have been extremely pleased with North Hills Nursery and I will be getting another order ready soon. My first order arrived healthy with strong roots and many offsets already. They were nicely packaged and labeled. It was like opening a present, impatient to see what the contents looked like and just loving it when you finally saw what was inside. Well since my last order from John When I ordered one of the collection I have proceaded to purchase about a $120 dollars more of the hens and chicks from him. Even though I loved my collection I have come to the conclusion that It's so worththe money to purchase the larger sized plants. I have completley covered a rock wall in my garden with these planst and have been so happy with my experience with John. The planst were HUGE with great root systems and every single one had new babies growing off of them. There were even bonus plants and I guess if John thought the plant was to small he put two large ones in the bag. So i really feel that this had been the best investment so far for my large garden and I cant wait to see them all start to grow in.! This is the best merchant so far that I have come across on Dave's garden web. Fast shipping. I always order on Friday when I get paid and they are here in Asheville never later than that following weds. Thank you again John for a great afternoon of planting. You might have competition from me soon since I have so many now!

This is a wonderful nursery, I discovered it through this web site as I have many nice mail order nurseries.. I ordered the 18 cell collection and they were here in 2 days. All still in their cells and individually labeled. Having been in the retail greenhouse and nursery business for several years, I am very particular when it comes to plant quality. I would rank North Hills Nursery at the top of the list! I will be ordering again!

Loved the collection. Looking forward to seeing it all grow in. Order plants late weds recvd them by saturday which was a nice surprise since I had already gone to all the greenhouses and bought other plants. Absolutely wonderful store! I placed my order on the 16th and received it only 4 days later! And the plants are just as awesome as the fast shipping! I loved the way they were packed, all in perfect condition when I received them, no broken chicks at all. I have ordered hen&chicks from a lot of different nurseries,but, by far the best plants came from John at North Hills Nursery. Not only did I receive beautiful mature plants,but, they had prime colors and babies on almost every plant. They are truely the same as the pictures that you go by when you are ordering. There is no disappointment when you order your plants here. You will be satisfied.

I first emailed John (owner) about how to make an order including a Semp that would not be available for nearly a month. He got back with me ASAP, letting me know that the one I wanted could be sold a bit sooner and also let me know of a special he was currently running (on orders over $50 it was buy one get one free on most Semps, which immediately increased the amount I ordered). He shipped them right away, notifying me of when they were sent out. The plants arrived quickly and well packaged and labeled. I loved each plant I opened more than the previous, and I don't know how that was possible! Customer service is very important to John, and he goes the extra mile. You can tell it's not just a business and making the sale, but it's a passion for him ... something you don't see often nowadays. I will definitely order from him again and will recommend him to all of my gardening friends.

I live in zone 4 on a Sandy Loam (50% sand, 50% silt). I have a new construction area, that minimum needs soil holding erosion control (ground cover) - however, I am limited by a annual 16 inches of rainfall (with a dry spell sometime in the summer), and also limited by my well, which only pumps 1/2 gallon per minute. I will have to hand water the ground cover plants I acquired, thus the quantity of plants I put in, is limited to what I can hand water.

But I have grand plans, and while any future sedums I might acquire will also need to be occasionally hand watered - Hens and Chicks (more properly Sempervivums) will not require this supplemental water. I discovered North Hills Nursery.

At first I was overwhelmed by all the different varieties. How could I choose? And then I discovered North Hills Collections. I promptly ordered two 36 collections of Sempervivums.

What amazes me, and why I am writing, is I received a personally written email in response to my order:

"I got you two completely different 36 plant collections for a total of 71 different all individually labeled. I goofed on one and you got two 'Blue Boys'."

OMG, a personal hand written note from an Internet catalog! Unheard of in my experience. While I have no idea whether I will be able to keep 71 different varieties straight, but the mere fact that a human (John) at North Hills Nursery took the time and trouble to pick out 71 different varieties for me, and write me a personal note about it - motivates me.

I most certainly am thinking about how to keep all the varieties labeled, as well as design their display area (North Hills does have some layout designs for my ideas to springboard on).

For what was for me, a gamble on a unknown to me Internet Plant Sales - North Hills Nursery sure have impressed me!

I ordered a hypertufa planter and mistakenly thought that the plant collection would be included. When the plants didn't come, I contacted John. He kindly explained via e-mail that I had misunderstood--and then, in the dead of winter, he dug up snow-covered sempervivums and sedums , and mailed them to me. FREE! I also sent quite a few e-mail questions about how to plant, and he patiently and courteously answered every single one. The man comes near to sainthood. When the plants arrived, they were in beautiful condition, with each species snuggled in its own brown bag. And so many! I have just finished planting them in the hypertufa container and have about six left over which I will have to put in another container. A++++ - All of the succulents were generous in size and included "babies". Quick delivery and the plants were carefully placed in small bags with plant tags. John "threw" in an extra group of succulents along with his personal note. In the past I have ordered from other sellers who ship small, single plants some of which were root-bound plugs. The plants were so nice, I could not believe my eyes. They are big, healthy, colorful and much more than I expected! I actually gasped when I unwrapped some of the plants. Its so nice to get more than I'd hoped for when ordering on the internet. I ordered from the online catalog and recieved my package in only 3 days! My husband and I visited North Hills Nursery this weekend (July 2006) after finding a brochure at a local restaurant where we stopped on our way home from a trip. What a great experience!!! The owner spent over an hour with us showing us the hundreds of varieties of "hens and chicks" he carries and helping us make our selections. He provided us with a ton of useful information so that I am much more confident in my ability to keep my new plants alive and thriving!!!
