Boer Green has resurrected itself on eBay.ca as "Macrovulgaris", and they're operating out of Vancouver, Canada. Their ads are the same rehash of the ones they used as the former Boer Green! | | Neutral | absinthium (4 reviews) | On April 7, 2006, absinthium Spring Valley, CA wrote: Ordered 2 nepenthes from them in September of 2005. Never received them. I just put it down to experience and got over it. Today, out of nowhere, I get a box from Minnesota. Inside was my order of N. ramispina and N. fusca. I also found in the package a N. spectabilis and a small somewhat dried out Cattleya.
So 7 months later I finally got my order. The nepenthes were in okay shape and size. Nothing to complain about there. The spectabilis was actually a pretty good size. They also came with a heat pack.

Shipping was slow, and their negative feedback started increasing dramatically. Looks like a lot of the feed back was from buyers outside Canada
They are no longer registered on Ebay. I think they tried to resurrect as CanadaExotics which very quickly became "No longer registered". CanadaExotics has not yet anwered my e-mail if they were affiliated with BoerGreen.

Still no answer from Canada Exotics if they were affliated with Boergreen, but they are now re-registered on Ebay so perhaps they have been checked out ok by Ebay. Maybe they bought all the stock and store off of Boergreen and have no affiliation past that. I am going to bid on a couple of orchids and see how see how it works out

(Canada) wrote:AWFUL!!! I ordered a Plumeria through eBay, from this one. It was supposed to be big, rooted, healthy and possibly even flowering. I paid my money and received good feedback. I even sent a printed self addressed shipping label to facilitate the process. Weeks went by. Emails were sent back and forth. After about 4 weeks, a battered box arrived. It had been all over the place because the box had been reused so many times....there were old addresses all over it and the Post office had no idea where to send it. What had been very unprofessionally crammed inside was a dead stick with a little lastic wrap over one end containing a 1 inch root. More emails followed. A replacement was sent, then it wasn't , then it was.....stories were conflicting. Another dead plant arrived. What I did get were a series of apologetic emails outlining all the seller's problems. I got so sick of hearing about her problems and never getting what was promised that I finally told her to forget the whole thing. I lost my money and got no plant. NEVER order from these people. | | Negative | video (1 review) | On January 4, 2006, video Clearwater, FL wrote: On 10/7/05 I won and paid for a Carnivorous Pitcher Plant Nepenthes Ramispina on e bay from Boer Green. One excuse after another - something about shipping certificates needed which they were working on. That was in the last e mail I received from them 11/11/05. I still have not received the plant. I have e mailed them 3 times since and asked to cancel my order and refund my money. They have not responded. | | Neutral | hamilmk (1 review) | On December 29, 2005, hamilmk Albuquerque, NM wrote: I ordered six plants from Boer Green in Sept/Oct 2005. The first order was for three orchids and a Nepenthes Lowii. The orchids were delieverd promptly, and were reasonably sized for the price. (One is already putting out a flower bud.)
However, the Nepenthes Lowii was not delivered, and nothing in the paperwork indicated why it was not. (In fact, the invoice indicated that the plant had been included in the package, which it wasn't.) I e-mailed Boer Green immediately, and they responded with:
Dear Mark
your nepenthes plants have been delayed because of a problem with the cites permitt. It should only be a short delay while we wait for the new permitt,if you can bear with us we'll make sure something extra goes in your order. sorry for any inconvenience.
I waited a few weeks but heard nothing. I e-mailed them again and got the same response. I waited a few more weeks and then e-mailed again. A different person responsed saying basically the same thing. This went on for two months, though sometimes they didn't respond to my e-mails. It's now been over three months. On Dec 12 Boer Green said:
Hello.
We actually had a problem obtaining a new permit released by the USDA and were unable to ship anything for all of November to the U.S. So we have a back-order that is being shipped to Minnesota this weekend via next day courier, and then leaving from there on Tuesday to all of the U.S. customers via Priority.
Sincerely,
****
Boer Green
However, it still hasn't arrived. This week's response from Boer Green was:
Hello.
Not yet.
I tried to call the owner tonight to see if the carnivorous have cleared as being Canadian yet, but there was no answer.
Sincerely,
*****
Boer Green
So, I'm still waiting. I don't know if they really don't have permits or if they just don't have the plants. If they had problems with USDA/CITES permits, they should have stopped selling to buyers to whom they couldn't ship. From the ebay feedback ratings it seems that Boer Green was doing well up until Oct/Nov 2005.
Overall my experience with Boer Green was positive. In fact, I ordered two more orchids from them after the first batch (the one with the missing Nepenthes) and those were both delivered promptly. However, the issue with the Nepenthes, and their other negative ebay feedbacks, has made me wary of dealing with them again (at least until I get my Nepenthes,) and caused me to rate them as 'Neutral'. They continue to get positive feedback at this time on ebay but they are over 50% negative in the past month, so caveat emptor.

So, on 1/21/2006 I got this message from Boer Green:
Our apologies for not getting back to you sooner we have been dealing with a lot. We have had some positive indication about getting the carnivorous plants into the US finally and should be able to confirm it by the middle of next week. You will be emailed an update as soon as we hear. Again our sincerest apologies and we know we have severely tried your patience.

I didn't hear anything in the following week. Then, on 2/6/2006 I received this:
Hi, just to let you know where things are:
We have finally received what we were told and believe is the right permit to ship the carnivorous plants. Yeah! However, we are now told that we need a yellow green sticker with our permit number printed on it. Apparently this sticker was supposed to be sent along with the permit but was not. All this sticker does is direct it to a port of entry with appropriate inspection facilities. It took us a while to find out what the sticker was and what department was requiring it. We have had a call in since last Wednesday to the person we originally spoke with to apply for the permit to see if there is any way we can by pass this or alternately how fast can they get it too us.
We will update you again when we hear anything new and we do feel this is the last hurdle.
Again, we do really appreciate your understanding in what has become for us a very difficult situation and a very frustrating one for you. We will be shipping an extra carnivorous plant with your order.
and on 2/25/2006 this:
We finally have spoken to an official on the yellow green sticker issue. They had called back twice but did not answer our question just left a message that they had called. They said that we do need it, can't bypass it and they are sending it out to us. However, they couldn't tell us how long it will take and after it taking so long to respond to our questions......
In the mean time though, we have been aproached by the company we purchase the carnivorous plants from. Seems their sales have declined sharply because of other customers having difficulty getting the required permits and stickers for the US. They have set up an agent in the US who has the permits etc in order to allow customers who don't have the documents to piggy back their orders in for a fee. We have accepted their offer and have confirmation our order will be coming in with their next shipment. What will happen is the plants will be shipped into the US, clear customs through a broker and go to their agent. That agent will ship out the plants to our US shipper who will pack and send them out to you. It will still take some time but we felt it would be quicker than waiting for the elusive yellow green sticker. Of course if the stickers reach us sooner we will ship ourselves.
Right now we are waiting word of when they are shipping. We had to confirm by Feb 24 and it sounded like it was happening this next week. We will update you as soon as we hear when.

Clearly they think they are still in business, though how they're selling their plants I don't know. If they were doing nothing I can't imagine that they'd bother to send e-mails. I haven't sent them anything for over a month. So, I have some small hope that I might get my plant, but I'm not holding my breath. If I get anything I'll post it.

This morning I got the following from Boer Green:
I sent out an update on Sunday but now that I check the sent file it isn't there. Apologies if you did already get it. Basically the gist of it was:
We are very happy to let you know the carnivorous plants have cleared customs and are in the US. Yeah ! Fanfares, fireworks. Depending on when they get to our US shipper, orders will go out next week or the week after. We won't ship too close to the weekend so they won't sit in the post office.
Thank you so much for your patience.

Half-an hour later I got another e-mail saying my order had been shipped, along with a USPS tracking number. This seems like good news (you can't fake a valid tracking number) but who knows if it's actually my package. If it's here by Saturday I'll believe it.
On March 31st, 2006, hamilmk added the following:
Well, I finally got my Nepenthes Lowii today, after waiting for six months. Interestingly, it was shipped from someone in Minnesota, from the same address as plants I got from \'Farmer Brown\'s Exotic Plants\' (another defunct E-Bay seller.)
They actually sent two plants; the Lowii and a Nepenthes Tobacia. They\'re both rather small (3-5 leaves, 2\" across) but they seem healthy. Not as large as the orchids I got from them, but at least I got something.
This is not enough for me to change my rating, however. I don\'t care what difficulties they had with importing, they could have done a significantly better job of customer care.

I have bid on and won 2 or 3 orchid plants from them. The plants are just OK. They are healthy, but skinny and small. With love and care, they have potential. If you have the patience to nuture the plants, this company may work for you. It's a situation of getting what you pay for--their orchids are very low in price. One of the orchids I did win was supposed to have spikes. It did not. I contacted the company and they said to return the plant and they would try to replace it with the same species in spike. I did not do it because it was not worth the hassle. They do answer e-mails and allow you to return plants you are not happy with. The e-mails are short, curt and to-the-point. My guess is that they are really busy and overwhelmed--that's the general feeling I got from them. Although I found the orchids to be just OK, their E-Bay feedback is positive. |
