Of course, I live in northern Calif, but still, very fast. They were well packed and in excellent condition. The trees are well-formed and covered with leaves. The roots are in excellent condition. The tip sheet they included is excellent, as well. The price was also very reasonable. Overall, a great experience. | | Positive | ecrane3 (28 reviews) | On April 22, 2008, ecrane3 Dublin, CA (Zone 9a) wrote:I just received two new 1 yr old trees, and they are absolutely beautiful. The trees are gorgeous and healthy, and the prices were reasonable too. This is my first year growing JM's, but if I decide to collect some more I will definitely be ordering from them again! Also I was really excited that they came labeled that they had been grown organically, that was a nice added bonus. | | Positive | jhmeye (1 review) | On March 20, 2008, jhmeye Marion, MS wrote: Recently received Beni schichihenge and Purple ghost maples from Mendocino Maples. They arrived in great condition. I could not find a dead branch on either. Excellent communication and fast shipping. | | Positive | kflannag (1 review) | On March 16, 2008, kflannag Maidens, VA wrote: I ordered several trees from Robert and could not be happier. I demonstrated that by ordering several more.
Robert was available to answer all of my questions and showed a genuine interest in his products and my satisfaction in them. I will definitely patronize Mendocino Maples again.
Specifically, excellent product knowledge, willingness to spend time with customers, well cared for trees and a very efficient operation sets Robert apart from his competition.
Unqualified recommendation.
Thanks.

There are well over a thousand Japanese maple cultivars and it seem like all the best are in Mendocino, I wonder why that is? | | Positive | prairiestyle (3 reviews) | On February 28, 2008, prairiestyle Omaha, NE wrote: I must echo all of the acclaim for Robert and Mendocino Maples. His trees are beautiful and in great condition - they are large and healthy and very reasonably priced. And Robert is excellent at keeping up communication, promptly sending information and answering questions. I've bought from several online vendors, and no others match the quality and service.
If you're looking for a beautiful specimen maple, look no further than Mendocino Maples. The quality to price ratio is unbeatable. | | Positive | ic_conifers (9 reviews) | On October 12, 2007, ic_conifers Iowa City, IA (Zone 5a) wrote:Robert is really great to work with, answered all of my questions promptly and sent an email when my maples shipped. This is my first time growing Japanese maples, and I ordered six. All arrived wonderfully packed without any broken sticks. With the exception of a single one-year graft, all had larger than expected root balls. Since I ordered late in the year, half the plants were already dormant. I plan to container grow these and eventually transplant a few outside. | | Positive | GREENOGRE (1 review) | On August 17, 2007, GREENOGRE Bremerton, WA wrote: OUTSTANDING SERVICE, EVEN BEYOND THE STANDARDS OF AN OGRE!
I took a chance and contacted Mendocino N about two maples to complete turning this sucky residence into a comfortable OGREs GARDEN.
It was well worth it, as Robert went the extra mile to ensure I would get the product now.
Im almost speechless with appreciation.

Mendocino's prices were reasonable, their communication was excellent, and the plant arrived in perfect condition. I even left it in the box for a day or two after it arrived until I had time to get it planted, and when I pulled it out of the box, it looked fresher, healthier, and had much better shape than anything I could have bought from any local garden center. | | Positive | briannorcal (1 review) | On June 1, 2007, briannorcal ., CA wrote: mendocino has the largest, healthiest and best selections of maples i have come across. if you are able to make a trip to mendocino, its a real treat to walk through the hundreds of beautiful maples, in colors, sizes and cultivars of all kind. the only sales person that you deal with is the owner, whos knowledge of maples, varieties and horticulture there of is outstanding. not only does he answer any and all questions you may have, hey is fair and honest with all purchases. i had purchased a maple in the winter, and accidently got a different cultivar because they werent leafed out and its hard to distinguish between the mursaki and other simiair cultivars. when it leafed out and i saw it wasnt the particular one i had wanted, one e-mail and without question he said to come back anytime to trade for the one i wanted. when i went back he spent the time to look through tons of trees with me to find just the one i wanted. he's a stand up guy, with awesome business practices, and even better trees. and i now refuse to buy maples from anywhere else | | Positive | anetteo (1 review) | On April 4, 2007, anetteo Port Ludlow, WA wrote: WOW! After 40 plus years of shopping through catalogs and on-line, I have never had a plant arrive in such perfect condition. I ordered a Lace Leaf Maple tree that is in beautiful condition, healthy, in leaf when it arrived and not one leaf was out of place. I am so impressed with the quality of the plant and its condition when it arrived. Thank you Dave, I will be sending you another order in the fall. | | Positive | gardensun (1 review) | On January 22, 2007, gardensun Littleriver, CA wrote: What a joy to stroll Mendocino Maples and have so many wonderful choices. Robert was extremely knowledgeable in guiding me to a very specific Japanese Maple for a major focal point in my yard, and knew the growing habit, color of leaves (both Spring and Fall) and character and tendencies of each and every maple we passed by. The selection, quality and care given to each plant make this the only Maple Nursery you will ever need to visit! | | Positive | frogpondroad (1 review) | On May 16, 2006, frogpondroad Littleriver, CA wrote: Fantastic experience every time I go and I look forward to my visits there. Robert keeps a fantasy garden that is delightful to be in - simply splendid! That and the wonderful plants that are obviously well-cared for that one can bring back to one's own garden - an outstanding selection! All purchases from Mendocino Maples are doing very well - not one exception. Robert himself really loves his maples and takes time with each customer informing them about the plants, and is very attentive - I always appreciate his take on my questions and input toward my own gardening goals. I'm hooked - and recommend highly!

All arrived in great shape. It would be tough to find fault in any aspect of my experience with this company. Plants looked good (fair size, good roots, not a stem or leaf broken). Prices were very good in my opinion for what you get (based on other purchases online and in person). Shipping was done when stated and packaging was good. Owner personally e-mailed me several times to update me on status of order and followed up after delivery.
I also want to note that Mendocino Maples carries more than just palmatum, and japonicum maple species. Their selection really is excellent.
I would have to give them a hearty endorsement for a job well done in every aspect! | | Positive | scross1 (5 reviews) | On August 6, 2005, scross1 Trenton, NJ wrote: I contacted Robert Jamgochian at mendocino maples concerning several maples that I was interested in from his website. He answered all of my questions concerning the location of graft points for several of the trees and also let me know which trees were grown from cuttings.
I had some concerns about shipping in the heat of the summer so I was told that the trees that I ordered could be held until the weather cooled off. But since I was anxious to get these hard to find trees I asked for them to be shipped immediately. The trees arrived two days after they were shipped. The shipping method was ingenious, using map tubes which are all reinforced. The shipping was also very inexpensive. All of the trees are doing great and were of very quality and very inexpensive (50% less) compared to other companies offering the same trees.
I have ordered from at least 10 to 15 different mail order nurseries and Mendocino Maples is by far the best. | | Positive | gerry_mac (1 review) | On April 5, 2005, gerry_mac Dublin, CA wrote: Plants requested were delivered on time and as promised. Rootstocks were vigorous and tree stems strong. Packaging of plants was such that specimens were well-supported and protected from shipping damage. I have purchased sight-unseen plants from other mail-order suppliers and from eBay in the past but Mendocino Maples plants were of the best quality that I have ever purchased. If you want good Japanese maples, buy from this nursery.
