The scoop on 'Texas Water Lilies'

After a long telephone conversation about selecting the right water lily for a small, hot Louisiana pond, I placed an order online. That was a Monday morning. Wednesday I received my water lily. It even had a bloom on it!! How's that for fast service.

After a slow start, TWC sent me two beautiful healthy water lily pants. One of these was a freebie for the slowness in processing my original order.

Though my first email to them was overly harsh, for this I apologize, they were still gracious and compensated me with the free plant.

I ordered from TWL through a special in the classifieds, here on DG. Most everything I ordered was tropical, so they were gracious to hold my order until time was safe. I received my lilies and lotus in excellent condition. All were wet and huge specimens. Within 2 days, 2 of the water lilies bloomed and another had 3 buds on it. I'd like to say that you can't find better prices for what you get from these people. I look forward to buying from them again and again.

I ordered some hardy water lilies and various marginals last summer. texaswaterlilies.com had good ratings and seemed to have some of the most reasonable prices around. Even though the website wasn't the most comprehensive, there was enough information to do some research on the plants, and I placed my order. I had never ordered water plants online before, so had no idea to expect, and to be honest was a little shocked when I got gallon-size baggies of... something. But, I had been warned that water plants don't look like much when they're out of water, so off I went to plant away.

Within a month or two, I had water lily blooms up the wahoo and the marginals were taking over. Everything has overwintered just fine and is starting to take off again here in San Diego. I would definitely order from here again -- if I find some more space in my pond :-)

We ordered 7 different water lilies, plus irisies & cattails. All specimens arrived in great condition, well sealed bags, and in 3 days after order was shipped. Rhizomes all had stems/leaves, and some lilies had flowers.

We planted the lilies in 3 1/2 to 4 feet of 65-70 degree water in Colorado, and had pads on the surface within 3 days. We are extremely pleased and would not hesitate to order from them again. Superior value to all competitors on the net.

This is a really great company! I placed my order on Friday, it was shipped on Monday, & I received it today (Wednesday). The plants are HUGE and very healthy. The water lilies are filled with flower buds. The taro are very well developed. The prices were great! And the customer service is awesome. There is no way this transaction could have been any better. I will definitely be ordering from Texas Water Lilies again!

Great stock and well packed, with extras. Actually they delivered late and the order had to stay in a shipping warehouse over the week-end. It still was packed well enough that it survived the whole week in transit without a loss.

Realy a great company! Good web site and the prices are good. The service is excelent and the plants exceeded my dreams. I will order from them again. I think you would be pleased with them also.

I recieved fantastic service! My mother got her "Mother's Day gift" Thursday after I ordered the plants Monday afternoon. The turn around time on my order was extremely fast! She was quite pleased with the plants. She loved that the Tina Lily had several buds on it. She told me the quality and quantity of the plants were exceptional! Texas Water Lilies was a thoughtful partner and a tremendous help when I needed information and lilies for our high school's water garden. The lilies were a good size and healthy; they even had branching, some with up to two feet of growth already started. One water lily named Lemon Mist had a solf yellow bud which was so beautiful my students were ready to plant immediately. Thank you very much does not begin to cover the generosity and expertise we were offered.

I have very seldom ordered online for anything but after seeing all of the positive feedback I took a chance on Texas Waterlilies. It took about two weeks for the order to be filled, but what an order I received. I ordered 3 marginals, 3 lotus, 3 hardy lilies and 3 tropical lilies. They came to me in great shape and several had flower buds on them. Two of the lotus seemed to have multiple growing tips and were very healthy and fat. The only concern that I had was that the water clover I ordered was not pictured correctly on the website and I got one that I really did not want instead of the one I thought I was ordering. I called the company and had a very pleasant conversation with the person working there and they are sending me the one that I wanted free of charge! I would definately order from them again.

Great quality and reasonable prices. I received a large Lotus tuber with two growing tips, in perfect condition packed in peat moss. Will definately order more plants in the future.

I emailed ahead of ordering, to ask for recommendations. I received a prompt reply, placed my order, and was very pleased when it arrived. One of the plants already had a flower bud, the rest were in great shape, good sized, and have settled in nicely. This was a small order and I was very pleased with the service.

I ordered seed pods for the Momo Botan Lotus and they very kindly and generously added a small root/tuber cutting as well. Which was very nice. I was to get 2 seed pods for very reasonable, but instead received 4 pods. It looks like I may have at least 13 seeds that might possibly germinate. I know that Lotus plants do not come true to the mother plant from seed. So I do not know what the seedlings will germinate as, but that was what I ordered and look forward to growing them for the mystery and surprise!

I experienced great service, low prices, and generous amount of seeds w/free tuber root. I hope that my tight budget will allow me to order from them again in the future. I was very impressed with their great prices, communication, service, and quick shipping!

The folks at Dave's garden gave me so much information on my existing Lotus Water Plants that I was amazed that they took the time and told me how to winterize the plants and how to start tubers from the seedlings in the pods. I also ordered some Tubers at the wrong time, they quickly informed me that in the New Jersey climate would not be a good time to plant these tubers. They offered to refund my money or to put me at the top of the list for a Februrary or March delivery,

To me, that means these folks are honest and work wth integrity. I ill continue to shop there for al of my water garden needs.

Great plants, Dusty was a gem. Only problem was with the planter. Very hard to get the plants to stay in the ground under tha water. Next order I'll have hand delivered and planted for me! Will order again in the future.

I am so happy with the service and quality of the water lilies I ordered from Texas Waterlilies. I wasn't sure of which varieties to order so I called them and they were so helpful. Then when the plants arrived in only two days, they were large and healthy. Some of them bloomed the very next day. I will certainly order from them again.

I wish there was an "ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE" rating I could leave as feedback. Tommy, Dusty and Jesse were fantastic to deal with. Texas is famous for hospitality and now I know why.
I wanted plants for my class and they responded with vigorous beautiful water lilies, lotus tubers & seeds, photos and growing instructions. The plants were shipped with a phytosanitary inspection certificate to Hawaii and arrived in 2 days. On the day they arrived, all plants were potted immediately, some lilies bloomed the next morning to my astonishment. One tuber even has a leaf sticking out of the water after 3 days.
The customer service was excellent; above and beyond any expectations. Would heartily recommend this company anytime to anyone. Will come to them again for plants and supplies; they are honest, and very easy to do business with.

I ordered a water lilie from Tommy and Texas water lilies and it did not arrive in the usual 2-3 priority mail time. I was concerned about the delivery because it was labor day weekend and I knew the plant would be in route for over a week. I contacted Tommy and he said he'd send another out right away. I got my replacement order in 2 days along with a bonus lilie for the delay and also received the first lilie which had evidently been lost in the mail. The price of the lilies are just a fraction of what I've seen before and the quality is so much better. I'll definitely order from then again. Jessica

Tommy has bent over backwards to take care of me and my order! I'll deffinetly be ordering from them again this next spring. I only just discovered that there was a color mixup and also mentioned that one root had not survived after all as I thought it was too small and they even replaced it though it was month's down the road! :) They also sent extra's with previouse shipment and with the replacements. Allmost all have bloomed and doing well!

The water lilies that I ordered arrived quickly and were in beautiful condition. I also received several free water lillies. What a pleasant surprise! I will definetly do business with Texas Water Lillies again.

I ordered 4 different water lilies from Texas Water Lilies. Communication was good. When I got the lilies I was absolutely shocked by how large and mature they were, they also had buds and a nice clean root system. I have ordered water lilies from others and as far as my experiences, these were the best hands down. They were very careful to pack them well and they were in great shape being mailed in our latest heat wave. Great prices, great communication, great shipping value, I'm an extremely pleased buyer. Would not hesitate to buy again.

Texas Water Lilies is an excellent company. Good communication, fast service and superior plants. Place my order late in the week and asked it be shipped on Monday and by Wednesday before noon my lilies were here. To my surprise the packaging was superior and of all five lilies only two had creased leaves. Plants were large, healthy, and had blooms on them. They have settled in here in Georgia like they have never been picked, packaged, and taken a long trip. I will order from them again and also sing their praises to all of my pond friends.

My experience with Texas Water Lilies has been great! We are experiencing record high temperatures here in Arizona, but all the lilies I ordered arrived in perfect condition. All were healthy and a good size and many had buds. Tommy was quick to process my order and did a great job letting me know when it shipped. This company can't be beat in terms of quality, price, and customer service.

Nice prices and plant material was all good.

We placed an order for a red flare and a Pamela tropical and a papyrus plant and we ordered at the end of the week. Tommy said he would ship out the following Monday. The beginning of the following of the next week we emailed Tommy about not receiving it yet. He stated that it would be sent out when he went to the other location where the plants were and would ship them out as soon as possible. Another week went by and we had not received it yet. So we emailed a few time to him again and there was no reply. We email another to Tommy and he responded and said he had not gotten the other emails from us. Then he checked his past emails and found them in another email program that was set up for his business. He then told us that he thought they had been sent. One week later we received our shipment and they were all wilted away and dried out and dead. We emailed Tommy and he agreed to reimburse our costs back to us. I feel they were overwhelmed at that time with orders and had a few mix ups. If the plants had lived one could not beat that price. I feel that Tommy tried his best.

I am very pleased with Texas Water Lilies their customer service in my opinion is top notch. They will get my business again.

I ordered from this company along with a large group. Because of a mail mixup it took longer to receive the package... it was packed well, but one item was missing.

I placed a call to Dusty reporting the situation and my concerns, he took time to talk about each plant and it's potential size of the variety, he also told me not to worry that he would take care of the missing item. I received another package that more than took care of the missing item. I am so pleased.

Customer service out weighs the mistake in packing. I will be back for more. All lilies are doing great!

The Good:
It goes without saying that there prcies are great - really unbeatable. Also, the lotus tuber they sent me was enormous. They also do a pretty good job of email contact - almost always answering within a day.

The Bad:
One of the waterliles they shipped me was so small I was shocked they shipped it - it was a tiny start and there's no way it will come close to flowering this year. Another one that they shipped me was dead, but they replaced it (see mroe on this below). Their shipping price is the same if ordering 1 plant or 9 - so, ordering only 1 or 2 plants is not neccesarily cost effective.

The Ugly:
Their warranty policy only gives you 3 days to ascertain whether their stuff was alive or not. With water lilies, it's almost impossible to tell if a dormant tuber is alive or dead until the growing season starts and it has enough time to make roots and grow. The 3 days is not nearly enough. At first they didn't wanty to replace the dead tuber they shipped because I wanted to give it time to grow and see if it was really dead, and I exceeded the 3 day window, but they finally relented, only because they also shipped me that other tiny one. However, it took several weeks and half a dozen emails to actually have the replacement shipped out. Every email was responded to with 'it's going out tommorrow' and then I would email back 5 days later and get another one saying 'it's going out tommorrow.'

Conclusion:
I think they're a good value if you need a lot of plants, but if you need just a few, it may make sense to look to other places. In either event, be prepared for dealing with a small operation and not getting the best customer service/selection shipped out.

We did have some problems with this order. It was part of the group order where we gave over 50 people wholesale prices by ordering as a group but actually individual orders. We did not send any water lily tubers whatsoever. We only ship live plants in Lilies except Hadies are still attached to the rhizome. He wanted a tropical variety that was very behind in its growing stage so it was small when shipped. I will admit we kept promising him shipment but each time they were just too small. He waited past the 72 hour gurantee but we sent a replacement anyway. We are family owned but have many satisfied customers both big and small orders.

I strongly recommend this company. A couple of the lilies arrived in sad shape (because of delay in transit) and when I contacted Tommy he said he would 'correct the problem'. He did just that. I recieved a new shipment of my entire order very promptly and every plant was beautiful, 1 lily has 3 buds on it and the plant is HUGE!!!! I will order from them again and have already passed their name along to other pond lovers. Tommy was great to deal with.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Texas Water Lilies! Their prices can't be beat and service is fantastic, my shipment arrived within two days and the plants were in great shape. I would recommend ordering from this company, they have very high quality waterlilies and lotus plants.

I can't say enough great things about this company! Their prices are very inexpensive, but the plants they ship are way above average. I ordered seven tropical water lilies, almost all of which arrived blooming size with three or four buds! Their customer service is also outstanding, when I had a question, Tommy responded to me promptly through e-mail, and was very sweet to deal with. My shipment arrived within two days. I would highly recommend this company to everyone!

Wish there was a higher rating than positive!!! These guys are amazing! The tubers were huge, and the price was so cheap! Looking at the prices one might pass them up thinking the quality would be poor. This is NOT the case with Texas Waterlilies. My local nursery sells lilies and lotus half the size for five times the price! You will not be dissapointed with this company. Very professional and personable at the same time. The saying you get what you pay for does not apply in this case, you get WAY MORE than you pay for. It's so nice to see an honest company for a change, they're not so easy to find these days. Start digging people! You'll need more room once you see the size of these!

This place is unbelievable. They are selling at wholesale prices or less. I ordered 10 water lilies and three lotus. I expected tiny plants for that price. When the box came (4 days after I ordered) and I opened it up, I almost fell out on the floor. These are good sized plants. The lotus tubers were huge, blooming size (what I would pay 40-50 bucks for ). Communication was outstanding. Tommy answered me promptly and shipped rapidly. Packing was excellent. All I can say is wow.

I received my Lotus tubers from this company ..I want to tell the world about them..They are awsome!!! Big Lotus Tubers for my money.. Tommy is a great guy to deal with...They go all out to make me a very happy customer!!!!..
