We purchased 100 drinking gourd hosta and prepaid in August 2007 to be shipped in the spring. I found this site in January, and a bit worried, started trying to contact Johnathan Coffman, the owner of the company to no avail. He had his phone and email shut off! I contacted the better business bureau and they said there have been MANY complaints that he has not responded to . I then contacted the attorney general of MO, which I encourage everyone he ripped off to do (the phone number is 314-340-6816). Also, with some good searching via online I found his new phone number for you to contact--(816) 807-1365. Please, don't hesitate to contact this scam artist. HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!! we have been in business for 85 years, and this not how the majority of the industry works. He is giving the nursery business a bad reputation and we want to ensure he pays for his wrongdoings. | | Negative | mccabej (1 review) | On October 8, 2007, mccabej Indianapolis, IN wrote: Sorry I didn't find this website sooner. I have ordered $200 worth of hosta and have heard nothing as have the rest of you. Credit card charged immediately after placing order. No response from them by phone or email. Website for "help" is not working. Am going to call the credit card company and better business bureau too. According to the posts this has been going on for over a year...why are they still in business??? | | Positive | MNgardnerbabe (4 reviews) | On August 17, 2007, MNgardnerbabe Minneapolis
(United States) wrote:I've been a customer for about 3-years, which I think is about how long they've been around. Anyway, I've always gotten my orders in a timely manner and the plants have grown to my satisfaction.
I called recently to place my fall wholesale order and was distressed to find out that they are having a lot of problems these days. Their retail business which started about a year ago was going very well, then one of their growers sent thousands of plants too early and some had to be left outside the greenhouse, well needless to say, they lost many of them in a late-freeze apparently.
He went on to explain that they are trying to work through a plan to get everything straitened out, but that because they have a lot of customer complaints they can't issue refunds fast enough since much of their inventory was destroyed and hence, they don't have very many plants to sell in order to make enough money to cover bills and refunds.
Anyway, I've ordered several times from Always Green and thought it was about time I give them some credit, after seeing some of the recent comments I thought I would share my story as well! | | Positive | citrosagirl (2 reviews) | On August 14, 2007, citrosagirl Missouri City, TX wrote: I ordered three packs of seeds from them about a month ago, they came in a little slow (took them 2 weeks to ship!) but they arrived, and have since germinated. I ordered $653 worth of Heuchera plants on 2/17/07... paid by PayPal at time of purchase. Received confirmation email, and then on 3/9/07 received email update that order was changed to pending and would ship soon. Never received plants, no communication except for emails that they would "look into it" in response to my complaints. I left phone messages and sent many emails, which is the only method of contact. They either don't respond or promise to get back to me and then don't. Now the website is down. I don't expect I'll ever see my plants, and with the recent volume of complaints, I don't expect I'll get my money back, either. PayPal won't accept claim as it's too long since the order.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!! | | Negative | Cynthia74 (1 review) | On June 5, 2007, Cynthia74 Greenwood, IN wrote: I wish I had seen this website earlier. I could have saved myself some money. I ordered plants in April from Always Green. They were supposed to have been shipped on May 8th. I have not received anything yet. I have sent several emails without any response. Now the website isn't working. I know why they are called Always Green - they keep my green cash! When others and myself say avoid them at all cost, LISTEN!!! | | Negative | rockysoil (1 review) | On June 4, 2007, rockysoil Trinidad, CA wrote: First of all I found this website "Dave's Garden"by looking for more information about Always Green Nursery. I am curious about why this is and would appreciate clarity. As far as my experience, I am trying to be patient and fair before going to the authorities. I ordered nursery stock the end of January 2007. I recieved the standard welcome email with in the week. I was not able to print out the invoice when I ordered and when I went to my account the items were only partially listed with the amount in columns being "0"after every item but the total being 218.87 including shipping. I was charged through pay pal for that amount on 02/01/07.
The next and only email I received was on Mar 9th 2007 saying my order had moved into the "pending" statice. I have not heard from them since and have been emailing with only return automated responses saying they were out of the office. When I try to go the their websight my computer all but freezes up. I found the phone number through DG and have now called with still no response. Does any one have helpful suggestiions? It is now June 4th 2007 and I just want to cancel the order and have my money returned. | | Negative | dougrobnyc (5 reviews) | On May 30, 2007, dougrobnyc New York, NY wrote: Ordered Gaillardia 'Oranges & Lemons' 25 Plant Pack. The Always Green Nursery charged my credit card and stated on their website that they shipped the live plants on the same day. They must have shipped you part of the 25 hosta that I ordered 1 month ago for $153.00 and they never shipped. I have reported them to the Missouri Better Business Bureau and the Consumer Protection Division of the Missouri Attorney General's office . You should feel fortunate that you had such an experience. I envy you. | | Positive | ConnieLC (1 review) | On May 25, 2007, ConnieLC Sobieski, WI wrote: I ordered 30 Royal Standard Hostas and received very good communication about the status of my order. Then a few days later I received an email stating that I would receive 50 Hostas for the same price I paid for the 30. I thought I needed to see it to believe it! Sure enough, 50 Hostas arrived in a timely manner and we spent 2 days having fun planting them. I can`t WAIT to see them all grow! Now I need 48 pink, purple, and red carpet phlox. Too bad, I wanted to order some more from them.
Terrible costumer service. Please avoid them!

We're happy to work with all customers but it does need to be through the proper channels and harassment is certainly not one of them.
We are in a great time of pain and you are certainly not helping your case nor ours in trying to work through things. | | Negative | mkyink (2 reviews) | On May 11, 2007, mkyink wrote: Extremely bad customer service. Doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. Slow to ship and in some cases doesn't ship at all and the customer is left with no choice but to file a claim to get their money back. Make sure you read all the negative feedback this company has received not only on here, but also on Ebay. Their two names they work under on Ebay are: alwaysgreennursery and alwaysgreenseedco. This company also has a blog where you can also see other negative comments that have been left about this company and it's practices. I even believe the BBB has a negative file on this company.
A company who cares about the reputation of their business and the satisfaction of their customers acknowledges their mistakes and does everything they can to correct them. An outstanding company also communicates very well and in a timely manner with their customers too instead of ignoring them. This company is not outstanding at all and never will be! Company representative comment on May 25, 2007:
On May 25, 2007 9:39 AM, Always Green Nursery added:This customer was shipped plants their plants (within the two weeks we ask for during the spring).
Please do not put us in a false light, we are unaware of any blog that has negative comments about us, but if there is one we'd love to see it. And we have never heard from the BBB regarding any complaints.
This customer had threatened to file a report but they were of course shipped their plants and happy once they received them.

I have left several messages at their site, which happens to be the ONLY means available to cantact them. NO response. I responded to their order notice, trying once again to cancel. NO response. I received an email fron DHL about a shipment, however it was just a label and no "pick-up of merchandise to be sent" took place. I am going to contact VISA to get them to help me get my $100.00 back.
THESE ARE THE WORST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I WOULD AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Needs training in customer service. Company representative comment on August 9, 2006:
On Aug 9, 2006 9:54 PM, Always Green Nursery added:I appologize on behalf of my company. Although there is no excuse for poor customer service we do try very hard to make all of our customers happy! We had no idea how popular our plants would be this year and had a very hard time keeping up. We have since changed the way do do things and are gradually reintroducing ourselves with new sales and customer service management. Again I appologize and I invite you to try us again sometime. |
