I ordered (2) Muscadine Grape Vines and received them in January. Both were in poor condition but one did grow this Spring. I've spent the past 2 weeks now trying to contact someone by telephone and emails for a replacement. They don't answer the phone (let voice mail answer it) and they haven't responded to 3 emails I've sent. It seems that once they have your money, they really don't care what happens to you or your plants. I'm very disappointed with their lack of basic customer support. Unless I hear from them soon I cannot recommend them and will not buy from them again.

I placed an order with Ison's I received an email the same day telling me my order was being processed the next day I received a tracking # for my order. I received my trees the following day and they were in the ground that evening. I ordered the trees on Tuesday and on Friday I received and planted them. AWESOME. The trees seem to be doing fine have only been in the ground 3 days.
I was waiting to post this comment until I knew if one of the two trees I ordered was going to make it. It looks like it will, so almost all I have to say is positive. I ordered two 5-6' Jujube trees on April 2. I received three different emails from Ison's that same day confirming my order and providing me with additional information. On April 7, I received an email with a FedEx tracking number so I could track the shipment to my door. On April 9, I received my trees. At first I was pretty nervous because the box the trees arrived in was badly crushed and damaged. Opening the box, though, revealed the two trees looked like they weren't banged up too badly. One tree had several limbs that had been broken off, but the other looked fine. Both had good-looking root systems and their roots had been well wrapped in plastic with plenty of terra gel to keep them moist. One of the trees already had a few green shoots coming out. I put them both in the ground the day they were received. Yesterday, April 15, not quite a week since they went into the ground, the other tree has started putting on sprouts. Bottom line, this was a good experience. The only improvement I would request they make is in their packaging - maybe adding some paper in the box to cushion the plants in transit. Other than that, great communication, fast shipping, good price and the plants I requested... I wouldn't hesitate to order again.
My experience this year:
Muscadine - healthy, no problems
Gogiberry - VERY puny, I don't look for them to survive, but we'll see
Mulberry - very nice specimen, no complaints at all
Blackberries/Raspberries - average - not great size, but ok
Positive overall experience, but not the best I've ever seen.

I have an organic homestead in Western North Carolina. I have placed two orders with Ison's Nursery for 2010. Both orders were shipped and recieved on schedule. The grape, blackberry, and goji plants were professionally packed and properly boxed for Fed-X shipping. The grapes had extensive root systems and were of proper caliber (1/4") diameter. The goji and blackberry plants were smaller, but that is ok. The availability of the perfect plant is not always possible. I have 62 years of farming experience which includes a 500 fruit tree orchard. The plants from Ison's Nursery appear healthy and ready to grow. Your customer service on the phone was prompt and showed that your employees had great knowledge of your products.
concerning isons nursery. they keep changing the sending date on me and the last one (today) was a week from today. the lady said they didn't get the walnut trees in because of the cold weather. Huh? seems to me warm weather might slow things down but you need cold weather for dormancy. it now remains to see what the trees look like if i get them. if they are good i'll upgrade this report. i have a heartnut and thomas black walnut in the ground since they were shipped by another nursery in dec. when i put in all my orders.
My third order from them was received this week. This one was placed several weeks ago, and I was aware that my stuff (two muscadine vines) would ship after they go dormant. Apparently, that happened sooner than I expected because the weather has been mild, and so I received them in mid November. The vines were healthy looking, with the bare roots in very good shape. No problems with them in the past. Highly recommended. Every nursery is going to goof up every now and then. Don't take a few negatives as fact that a company is bad. Read between the lines.

Did get refund several days after my final conversation.
I beleive company fundamentally honest but ordering process and customer service is incompetent. Can't speak to the quality of their vines, as I never saw one. Have an empty vineyard to look at until this winter when I will obtain stock elsewhere. A simple apology would have gone a long way, but instead, I am left feeling as if I am totally not valued by the Ison family. Order from them at your own peril.

I am upgrading Ison's review that I previously made to a neutral with the thought that a good experience combined with a bad experience cancel each other out. This is what happened. I posted the above review on 5/18, about two weeks since I got my refund from them. On 5/20, I received a Fedex from Ison's mailed on the 18th and with a note of apology for my experience from Greg Ison. Also included were my originally ordered grape vines - in triplicate! And at no charge. So, I am not sure, but I guess that Greg got my review from this site and did his best to rectify the problem. I very much appreciate Greg for his efforts, appreciate the vines and am happy that my vineyard will not be a year later. And Greg, if you are reading this, I am watering my vines well and thanks for fixing the problem. I will happily reorder from Ison's next year and hopefully it will all be smooth.
I ordered blueberries in February. It is now May, and no plants.
When I called customer service at Ison's Nursery, the guy said the plants were mailed parcel post in February.
There's no way to prove they were ever mailed without a tracking number, so I assume that they forgot to send my plants.
The customer service guy's response to my inquiry was to tell me he had to ask one of the owners if I should get a refund.
Five days later, no call back.
I just sent another Email inquiry about my missing order.
I'm sure Ison's doesn't defraud their mail order customers purposely.
They are probably just incompetent, and customer theft is just a byproduct of that.
My expectation is that I just lost $37.50.
But the other side of the coin is that Ison's lost a repeat customer, and anyone who is near enough to hear my story will not become an Ison's customer either.
In the past year we moved and built a new house. This meant I had to re-establish our fruit orchard. We purchased $800 in fruit and berry plants from Ison's. We were well pleased with the size and quality of all of the plants recieved. They were promptly planted and now ALL have leafed out and look healthy. It looks like we will have berries in June on the Blueberries. A good experience for us, best prices we could find and the quality was great. We recommend Isons to others.
I purchased a number of fruit trees in January of this year. Since some were not available, I was told that these would be shipped. After calling a number of times I finally received all but two of the trees in my order. Time passed and when I finally spoke to a representative in April, she told me that these two items would not be available this year; therefore I would receive a refund. When the refund did not arrive in what I thought should be a timely manner, I telephoned and since I never spoke to a live individual, I left messages, then e-mailed. As of today, two weeks have gone by and there has been no returned call, nor e-mail other than the automatic response, and, more importantly, no refund. Maybe tomorrow?
The two-year old muscadines I ordered actually came with well established rootballs. All are now getting leaves. Unlike those I ordered from another company which came with a few straggly roots and appear to be mostly dead twigs. More on that later. I heartily recommend Ison's.

Same experience as first email. Order was placed on first week of Dec. with a promise ship date of Dec. 15th. Order was just received Feb. 6th. But credit card was charged first week of Dec. Also after receiving trees we have had questions and left 2 voicemails with no response. POOR customer service. They seem to have no concern after they get your money!!!

This was the first time I had ordered by mail from Ison's, and will definitely do so again. I have visited the nursery before to purchase potted muscadines and columnar apple trees and met their very friendly and helpful staff. The plants I just received through the mail were as good a quality as the plants I purchased on-site at the nursery.

I just received my order of potted muscadines.The shipment arrived very quickly and my muscadines were well packaged! I was originally unsure of what varieties of muscadines to order. I spent over $400.00 this spring on blackberry and muscadine plants from 5 internet nurseries. The only plants that are growing are those bought from Isons. They will not answer e-mail, letters or faxes, but in service & quality they are the best !!!
I ordered 3 muscadine vines on the 4th of March, after hearing their patented introduced varieties praised by a NAFEX grape specialist. The plants arrived in 10 days, well-packed with great root systems and tops. And they included an extra of their variety 'Ison' for free.
Very detailed planting and cultural instructions (4 pages) were included. I don't know about the other items they sell, but they are a very good muscadine nursery.
I placed an order in Oct. 2007 for fruit trees, strawberries, muscadine vines and loganberry vines. They cashed my check and it cleared. By middle of January I had not heard anything from them. I called and they told me they would ship last week. I received nothing. I called back on 01/23/08 and was told, once again, they would ship next week. I cancelled the order. I am so disappointed that I did not get my order. I need to find a nursery that will do what it advertises. A very disappointing attempt to get muscadine vines.
Placed an order in Jan 2008 for several plants (muscadines, blueberries,pecans,persimmons and pomgranates) The shipment was fast, all of the plants were very healthy with very nice roots. Prices were very good. They were helpful in picking out the varieties and how to plant. Answered a lot of questions for me. I will definitely order from them again.
I ordered two persimmon trees. Shipment was quick, however one tree had a large root which was broken. I called the company and they immediatly sent a replacement with no hassle. New tree came within 3 days of reporting the broken root. I will order from them again.
I ordered a variety of fruiting plants this winter. (Muscadines, Blueberries, Blackberries, Apples, Plums, Pears and Pecan Trees) I needed help with making my selections - I ordered by phone and the Isons Staff was very helpful and took the times to answer all of my questions. (And I had a lot of questions)
My order came in a timely manner with detailed planting instructions. I was very pleased with the size of the plants and the root system each plant had.
UPS had broken the top of one of the trees before delivery. I called Ison’s to report it and they promptly sent me a replacement tree. No hassle – no questions. (which I greatly appreciated) They also did not make me send the broken tree back to them. They told me since it was broken above the graft to go ahead and plant it – that it should be fine. I did plant it along with the replacement tree and both are doing great.
The prices were also among the best I had found. And I liked dealing with a company that has a long history of growing plants. (No Walmart Super Type Stores for me!!!) I much prefer the care and service you get from the growers.
It seems they specialize in muscadines and they had the most varieties that I had found anywhere.

I received a phone call today 1-18-07 explaining the mixup on my backordered Liquid Fence order.It seems someone there thought I ordered a gallon instead of a quart. I have ordered almost $1,000 worth of stuff from them. It has all arrived in good shape. I was surprised when they charged me at the time of ordering, even if months in advance. This included the $120 for 20 Nobles vines that they did not have or send. They did send me a check, which I did not cash as I lost it. Several attempts to get my money back have not been successful (they have not respsonded to 2 emails). The forum that they used to have on web site was top notch, problem has not been solved for over a year.

WOW. The muscadine plants that I ordered were beautiful. Amazing root system. I am very pleased! They were very helpful in helping me select the varities that I needed -making sure that I had correct pollination. I also ordered some blueberries and blackberries - they were also exceptional. The pricing was the best that I have found, even the shipping cost was below what I expected. My order arrived right on time, as requested. I also like knowing that they grow the muscadines themselves (Apparently a family owned business since 1934) and not just buying and reselling everything in their catalog. I know I will order from them again!
The best buying experience with a mail order company I have ever had. Ison's has been excellent. They have great prices and high quality plants. Would highly recommend to other growers. Sales staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They had many plants to choose from. I'll definitely be getting my future plants from them.
After viewing their catalog, I was very excited to order from Ison's. I faxed my order on March 8th, ordering one dwarf peach tree and three blackberry bushes. When I recieved my credit card statement on March 10th, there was a charge from Ison's on it. The dollar amount was for the full order, so I expected to see it arrive any day. According to UPS, my area is only a three day delivery from them. By March 26th I was concerned. I emailed the company with no results. On March 29th I called. A polite lady told me that the order was ready for shipment and would be sent that day or the next. Still I received nothing. I called their customer service line again this morning to cancel my order. They didn't even ask why. I think it is unprofessional to place an order on a credit card before it ships. On top of that I was lied to about my order being ready to ship. I will never order from them again and I encourage others to think twice before they do.

Live near the Nursery and personally went to the facility for two purchases of fruit trees, muscadines, and berry plants over $300 worth. Prices were excellent and the plants were in excellent condition. All have been planted and eagerly look forward to leaves soon. Family rep was very very helpful with matching plants for best orchard.
The muscadines I ordered from these folks arrived in good shape. The prices were reasonable, and the plants shipped when they said they would. Can't speak for their fruit trees, but the muscadines were fine. Be aware, though, that muscadines can be touchy the first year or so in the ground, and you need to make sure you live in an area where they will survive the winter.
I have ordered Muscadine vines from them several times over the years and had great success. This company is helpful over the phone. They have the best selection of Muscadines of any company I can find. I don't know why more people don't grow Muscadines.
I've purchased plants from Ison's in the past and like the other commenter said, their plants were some of the healthiest and largest plants that I have ever received through the mail. Plus, when I called I was able to talk to someone who was very knowledgeable about the plants they were selling and he spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with me giving me guidance more than one time.
