I ordered from Schreiner's earlier in the spring. I live in a hotter climate, so I asked them to ship the iris at the tail end of their shipping season, so as not to stress the rhizomes with the hot summer here. After they settle in, the iris will handle the heat a lot better. Schreiner's accomodated my request perfectly. Also, if you order a certain amount, you get to choose a bonus iris. I ordered 9 iris and got a bonus 10th iris that I got to choose. I was thrilled with this great deal, but when my package arrived, there were 11 rhizomes! They gave me an extra bonus, which was such a great surprise! I'd also like to mention that all 11 rhizomes are very large and healthy! I will definately order from Schreiner's again.

Schreiner's has the worst customer service. According to their web site the last day to ship to Wisconsin was Sept. 8th, and you had to post your order in advance a week prior. I posted my order on Sept. 1st. It took me quite awhile since I have only dial up service, and I did so after a long work day driving across state. I followed up with a call on the order the next day to make sure they received it even though the website said the order was successful. The next day when I spoke to the customer service representative, she was very rude. She told me that the cutoff was on Sept. 6th, and when I informed her that the website had a Sept 8th cutoff, it took me awhile to post the order, and it was my first time...etc, she said that the date was being "corrected" as we spoke! I could have the iris order, but no guarantee! But when she saw that I had an order amount for $107, she consulted someone else, and said that they would honor the order. I told her that I intended to pot up a couple of iris, she got rude again and told me point blank that I could not do that! I am a novice, I will admit, but on their webpage there is a large section on potting up iris, and informed her of that. I told her that I would think things over.
I did just that, and located some very reputable growers.
One large grower offered to dig iris out of their show gardens after hearing of my poor customer experience!
Schreiner's customer representative told me that I would probably get a letter in the mail explaining the reason they could not honor the order, but that was before she told me that they would honor the order afterall. I have not received a response from the company. No one has gotten back to me after another follow up call. In fact the order is still hanging out there. As far as I know it has not been posted to my credit card, since I did check. There are so many contradictions that this representative stated, that I can only hope for the company's sake that this is a single isolated incident and does not reflect on the company as a whole since they overall have a very positive rating. I just had bad luck, but it was bad enough to make me look elsewhere and find companies that are just as good if not better for my needs.

I am so glad that I ordered from a different company. My iris are so beautiful, years and still growing strong and beautiful INCLUDING THE ONES THAT I GREW IN POTS and later planted out the following season. Schreiner's Iris Gardens never contacted me and never apologized for their poor customer service. I guess in these days of cash being a little less fluid, it doesn't matter that they lost a customer. I have the most beautiful bearded iris from Nola's Iris Gardens and Nicholls Gardens.
I emailed the company about the weather and the availibility of viewing Irises, still being out given the early blooming season this year. I got an immediate response and much more info on activities that were going on this coming Memorial Day weekend. I have purchased a few Irises from them and am satisfied with the quality. I have never seen another place like their garden and am excited to get to visit it after several years. Looking forward to it and can't wait to thank them for their help and suggestions.

You really can't go wrong by ordering from this outstanding company. Great customer service and good selection, especially for a commercial grower! The best part about Schreiner's is the quality of their rhizomes. They are HUGE and take off right away. Some of the rebloomers have sent up stalks 3 weeks after planting! At first glance, the prices are pretty high, but if you order enough to qualify for their Red Star Discount, the prices are cut in half. This puts them in line with other companies, and you get some of the best quality rhizomes available anywhere! If you buy enough for the discount, you get to pick a brand new 2005 introduction. Also, they always include an extra or two, and the extras are usually newer introductions.

many varieties of iris's last fall. They have been so gorgeous. The colors are magnificent. I am extremely pleased! I love my iris garden!! Thanks to Schriener's for their wonderful selection of iris's. I have received many complements for my beautiful iris's. I give Schriener's my highest regards for their wonderful iris's and great customer service.
I have purchased many iris from Schreiners and can tell you one word. AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These plants are huge and are doing well in my zone 7b-8 garden.

I was blessed to have met many members of the Schreiner Family this past May, and they are bigger than life, just like their product. The reselect seedlings that are growing in their iris beds (to eventually be introduced to the public in the years to come) are breathtaking!!
The Schreiners are customer oriented, and any corresponence either in person, by phone, or E-mail is quick and courteous. Their rhizomes are huge, clean, and true to name. Their plants are guaranteed for one year, and replaced free of charge should they die. To top it off - they have the most gorgeous catalog you'll see.

This year I bought the most beautiful rhizomes I have ever seen from Schreiner's. It is Oct. 29 here (zone 9) and some of the plants are already a foot tall. I bought a lot (well over 50) of plants and there was remarkable consistency among them. They were obviously freshly dug as the roots were still fat and fibrous and I have not lost a single one. I have bought Iris from other vendors but the day I opened the Schreiner's box was an happy surprise! I have not had to interact with the customer service here because I have not had any problems. I like it that way.
I guess I should say, "Thank you" to everyone there.

I am trying to recreate my Grandmother's old iris garden with iris from the 60's and 70's. I ordered 21 iris, no two alike, from Schreiner's in May. The rhizomes I received looked fantastic. They were all huge, some with multiple healthy fans, and no mold. They grew quite nicely over the summer, dwarfing some puny iris I received at roughly the same time from another company. There were 3 bonus iris in the shipment. I planted those in a different part of my yard because they are 21st century iris. I bought so many iris that I got the red star discount, which was about half-off. That made their price still more than that of the puny iris I received from elsewhere, but much less than that of many other places I've seen. So far, I think I got what I paid for and I really like Schreiner's iris. The clincher will be when I see how many survive the winter and bloom as advertised.
This company is so good I've placed 3 different orders with them this year! The supreme of all iris company's. They are higher priced than most but average 5 babys on the iris, so worth the extra cost to me.

In June 2004, I placed my order with Schreiner's. They promised to ship my order in the week of August 2 and immediately sent me their beautiful full-size catalog for free. On August 11, I received my order; the package was postmarked on August 2, exactly as promised (I live on the other side of the planet). Despite the long flight, the rhizomes were in a surprisingly good condition. All were huge and healthy. It's been only five weeks since I planted them, but they started growing so fast and so vigorously that they have already survived two typhoons. I received three bonus plants, of which two were their most recent introductions. I emailed Schreiner's asking cultural questions and got an answer from them next day. Excellent customer service. I highly recommend this company to iris fanciers all over the world.

I have just placed my first order with Schreiner's Iris Gardens. I asked for some tips on growing them because I am on the very southern edge of where they will grow. Jain Moon sent me info plus she said she would throw in a couple of different iris to test in my area. Never have I been treated any nicer and if the plants are as nice as the people I can't help but be sucessful.
Thanks Jain,

This is the first time I bought TB iris through mail-order. The irises may look over-priced at first glance, but I could easily select so many varieties that I qualified for their quantity discounts (which is 50% off). In addition, I got to select the bonus plant that I like. I was in for a good surprised when I received the plants last week. The rhizomes were fresh and huge. The quality of the rhizomes was truly exceptional. I definitely will recommend the company to family and friends, and absolutely will not hesitate to buy from them again.

My only suggestion to other customers is make sure you order enough to benefit from their quantity discounts. Although their irises are generally pricey, you get what you pay for. With the discounts, you get twice what you pay for.

I love Schreiner's- I won't buy Irises anywhere else anymore! Every Iris I've gotten has been large and healthy, I've never seen Irises the size they send out. All of them have been true to name as well. Almost all of them have bloomed the spring after they were planted, and some of them have bloomed the same year they were planted. This is compared to some Irises that I bought elsewhere several years ago that I'm still trying to get them to bloom....
My grandmother and I have ordered from this company in the past and this place is without a doubt our favorite place to buy iris. Well, let me rephrase, it is the only place we have ever bought iris. I will never shop anywhere else. The quality is unbelievable and I have never lost a plant from this company. Though my grandmother passed away some years ago, her "Schreiner's" irises live on.
I am a professional horticulturist, and buy all my iris from them. Their product is excellent, large and healthy. If you buy on their half-price program, prices are comparable to wholesale.

I moved and bought another 8 irises for the new house. The plants came on date stated and are excellent. They are using new identification tags with the iris' picture and height on it so you can easily plant by those characteristics. Schreiner's just keeps getting better and better. My only suggestion for improvement is their web site. I could not state my ship date on my web order - I had to call in later and do that. They also need an advanced search feature so you can search Iris by color, fragrance, bloom time, etc.
I just HAD to post a report here on how great this nursery is.
I've always wanted Iris's to grow out front. I've made two attempts so far, both failed.
On the first attempt, the rhizomes were from a different company. They sent them to me in September. The rhizomes looked OK, but the leaves on them were all dead. I didn't realize it at the time, but I am in Zone 5, and Iris rhizome planting time for Zone 5 is first week of July, because they need at least three months of root growth in order to become established enough to survive the winter. The company had asked what zone I was in and said they'd ship them at the proper time for my zone! What idiots! Of course they all turned to mush by the next spring.
I found another company and tried them the next year. I placed the order, and they replied saying they'd ship them at the proper time for my zone! Of course I was weary, so I asked them when this was. They said September again! After some arguing with them (aren't I the paying customer?) the agreed to ship them first week of July. These ones looked OK, some had some green leaves, but most were brown. Planted them, and some of them shot up some short leaves before the end of the season. Protected them with straw over the winter, then in the spring, once again only 6 out of 30 iris's grew (the ones that shot up the leaves). The rest turned to mush.
I asked on Usenet to recommend a good nursery, and I got a lot of responses for Schreiner's. They do *only* Iris's. Their catalog has a lot of exclusive colors that aren't available anywhere else. I like the reblooming Iris's. Most catalogs sell the same 4 or 5 colors of these. Schreiner's sells unique colors that I couldn't find at other companies. I placed the order, and again I asked when they'd ship, and they immediately replied the first week of July. They came right on time, and they were all BIG rhizomes, ALL with bright green leaves. I planted these, and within days, they all started GROWING VIGOROUSLY. Of course they won't bloom this season, but the growth is impressive for out of the box planting! In fact, within a few weeks, THREE of the rhizomes have already started to MULTIPLY! And there's more starting to do so! In addition to that, they sent me five bonus rhizomes, one of which at the time I received it, sells for $49 on their site!
Hopefully they will all survive, but at this point it sure is looking like they will. If you are sick of getting small rhizomes or rhizomes with brown dried up leaves and want to find a place that sends big ones with green leaves, this is the place!

I just received my rhizomes and am very excited. They are wonderful and I couldn't be happier. They have a fabulous catalog and with beautiful photos and wonderful discriptions. I ordered 7 iris from the Schreiner's catalog. I recieved a postcard within 1 or 2 weeks saying my order would be shipped in early July. When they didn't arrive by mid-July, I called Schreiner's to check on it. The person who answered the phone was helpful and courteous, checked on my order, and assured me it would be shipped the following week. The delay was because they had changed their labelling system. My order arrived on Tuesday of the following week, as promised. The rhizomes were HUGE, with large, well-developed roots, and all arrived in great shape. They also sent a booklet with planting instructions, useful for us novices. I would definately order from them again.
What a nice company to do business with. Every single rhizome I have received from them has been exceptional quality. They may seem a little pricey, but if you buy in quantity they are really half price, and well worth it. They also have many in the lower price range that are gorgeous. You don't have to spend 20.00+ per iris to get a beautiful show. The iris I have received from them have consistently THRIVED!
I HAVE ORDERED A LOT OF IRIS FROM THIS COMPANY THE PAST 2-3
YEARS. THEY WERE THE FIRST IRIS NURSERY THAT CAUGHT MY EYE.
I HAVE ORDERED A FEW FROM OTHER NURSERIES THAT WERE NOT AS
GOOD A QUALITY (SMALLER RHIZOMES/DIDN'T & HAVEN'T BLOOMED AS WELL.) THEY WILL BE THE ONLY NURSERY I BUY IRIS FROM IN THE FUTURE. I SEE NO NEED TRYING ANYONE ELSE. THE RHIZOMES ARE ALWAYS A GOOD SIZE, BLOOMING THE FIRST YEAR THEY ARE IN THE GROUND.
The Schreiners familly has been providing top-quality rhizomes for decades, and their exellent reputation is well deserved. Rhizomes are always huge, healthy, and correctly labled. Their catalogue is beautiful, if a bit superfluous. Their prices are quite steep unless you order a set minimum, after which the price is cut in half. This puts their prices well in line with that of other suppliers. Their selection is not likely to impress a seasoned iris fancier, but for someone just taking the plunge into the wonderful world of bearded iris, Schreiners cant be beaten.
The Schreiner family is tops in the world of iris! The color catalog is second to none. The nominal charge of $5 is a deal.
Whether you are a novice or an expert at growing iris, this is the best commericial grower. The AIS (American Iris Society) has awarded the Schreiner's a myriad of awards, including nine Dykes Medals, the highest award an iris can receive.
The plants are healthy and fresh. Always a pleasure ordering from Schreiner's.

A heap of praise upon Schreiner's. Magnificent catalog with honest descriptions. If a cultivar has low bud count, they're upfront about it! And when it says a cultivar is vigorous, they're not kidding. The rhizomes are fresh, healthy and expertly packaged. I've received countless comments about my "special" iris from passers-by.
We have ordered from Schreiners for over 10 years and will attest to their high quality and customer satisfaction. They also have one of the best picture catalogs in the iris industry and worth paying for even if you never order an iris.
My first order from Schreiner's Iris arrived last week, one for 3 Batiq Iris. The rhizomes were each the size of a medium to LARGE onion. This company really does sends out extremely large and healthy specimens. Now I just have to get my beds ready for the other 50 or so that are coming. My second and much larger order from Schreiner's Iris arrived before I was physically ready for it. The plants were enormous and healthy. By the time I went to plant them in late September, they had little bugs on them, but still seemed healthy. Unfortunately, I lost over half the ones I planted. This was probably due primarily to my own mistakes. But I reported the loss to Schreiner's and they scheduled full replacement for July. This time, I got in gear and had all the beds completely ready for the new plants, with the exception of where I was going to place the "Tiny Tots" Collection. I figured that any company that would replace their plants in good faith warranted another order, so I found space for an additional order of over $200 (which means twice the plants since once you order over $80 in red star iris, you get them for half price) to be shipped at the same time as the replacements. They all arrived on the week stated by their reminder postcard and were in excellent shape, size and packaging, and well-labeled as before. The replacements weren't any smaller than the new ones I had ordered. This time, I had all the large iris in the ground with my little plastic markers within 24 hours of receiving them. I got the other area enlarged and planted the collection within 3 days of receipt. So far, all seem to be doing fine and growing. The iris from last year that did manage to produce bloom stalks after our May 20th blizzard were better than the photos (which are great anyway!) and seemed to be blooming at the appointed time. Schreiner's certainly gets an A+++ rating from me. [update late summer] By the way, my irises from Schreiner's are doing great this year. I have been extraordinarily protective and watchful over the condition of their beds so that I don't repeat last year's mistakes!
Thank you for this information. This is something that most of these companies don't understand. When you go online you have a onetime shot at capturing the public's attention. I bought from Schreiners about 25 years ago. I saw that they had a web site and went there and it is not up and running. I am an online rep with a company and I can guarantee if you lose out on that first contact, some people will not return. Since I had done business with them numerous times I knew their business practice and plants to be both sound. Because nothing was popping up, I though perhaps they had gone out of business. They should be advised they need to get their online catalog up and running.
