I placed an order with them, and later I added to it. At the time I added to the order, the person on the phone was unable to tell me the total amount I would be charged. In fact, I never knew it until I saw the amount clear my bank. It's not that they weren't honest, just more disorganized than anything.
The plants arrived on time. When I opened the box (always a tense moment) I found that a lot of the plants had not been labeled. I had ordered three of many varieties, and Sunlight Gardens had only labeled one of each variety. Since many of them were just stubby roots in pots, this made identification next to impossible. In addition, although all the plants that did have leaves looked healthy enough, many of them were rootbound.
They do have a very good selection of native plants, and I will no doubt order from them again. Their prices, while not the lowest, are not the highest either. On November 15th, 2003, Commonsense added the following:
The people at Sunlight Gardens e-mailed me to say they were disturbed by my original comments. They said there was no way the person adding to my order could have known the total charge for my order, but that he would have called me back if I'd asked him to. (I did ask for the total amount, but he said he had no way to know what it was.) They said they never label all their plants, but that they will purchase a labeling machine when they can afford one. They said they are a "very small company" and that they care very much about customer satisfaction. Then they closed by expressing further concern that my "negative" feedback might affect their reputation. My feedback was in fact neutral, and if it affects their reputation then maybe they should make some changes. On November 20th, 2003, Commonsense added the following:
Sunlight Garden's response to my postings is inane. They have not done anything to "satisfy" me, and I didn't need satisfaction. As I said in my first post - which was "neutral" and not "negative" - although I had mixed feelings about them, I would probably order from them again. However, since they feel the need to patronize me in this way, I will undoubtedly not patronize them in the future. On Nov 2, 2003, Sunlight Gardens responded with: "Customer service is of paramount importance to us at Sunlight Gardens. We are honest, diligent, knowledgeable, and sensitive people who are trying to grow good plants for happy gardeners. We have done everything we can to satisfy this person. However, they remain unable to be pleased."
