Mail innovations shipping for southern states (UPS transfer to USPS) is not a good choice , since it takes extra 2 days in transit when package is in the same city . (Don't you dare to miss USPS carrier and miss delivery because You have to call for redelivery and add more days to transit time ).
You need to ship customers choice to meet customer needs.

I bought butterfly and humming bird garden as well as three seasons cutting garden from them. The shipment was supposed to arrive by mid April according to their website (Zone 5 MI) but few weeks later suddenly their website is showing they will arrive in June. We are already running behind on planting, and we have very short summer in Michigan. I'm not betting on my gardens doing well/surviving after they arrive. Too bad I was going to order some more from them based on the service and quality of the plants. But I don't think I will ever order from them again.

I've ordered from Michigan bulb for years. Last time I ordered was last spring. I ordered a 3 in 1 apple tree, 2 banana trees, strawberries, and dahlias. When you first get them they don't look like much, but once you plant them they take off and look great.

I've ordered several times because they have great clearance sales. I've always received healthy items. The only drawback is that they occasionally break up orders and an item might arrive much later. But again, always good quality, healthy plants.
Here's why I like Michigan Bulb... I mixed up some daylilies and (wrongly) thought that Michigan Bulb had sent the incorrect item. I posted this on their website in a review of the product. Months later, someone at Michigan Bulb read my review and issued me a credit to be used in my next order. I never asked for a credit or replacement. They simply took it upon themselves to make it right (even though I was actually wrong -- oops).

First, for those who got plants that were dead or died - the company does have a lifetime guarantee and will replace any item. They don't grow their own stock, or didn't when I was ordering, so what you're getting is coming from their provider direct to you. I have noticed that they have changed some things since I last ordered so that may not be the case now. As for ordering from other online sites like Gurney's, if you read the small print and do some research I think you'll find that many of them get their product from the same place as MB did when I was ordering a couple of years ago. If ordering a large amount and wanting high quality guaranteed then order from one of the more expensive companies. Also, as with anything mail order product, inspect and contact the company immediately with any problems. Contact with MB should preferably be by phone rather than email for a quicker response.
Second, Yes, they are cheap compared to most other nurseries, but remember you get what you paid for. If you want large plants that will almost always have no issues you have to pay for it - order from those more expensive companies. Cheap means you'll likely get the culls or smaller plants and that's only fair. I don't know any company or product where you can get high quality cheap. Buying plants is like buying groceries, clothes and furniture. The difference between MB and almost every other company is their LIFETIME guarantee. Other companies may offer a 1 year replacement but then make you feel like a fool/idiot if your plant doesn't grow even though they will replace it. Oh and if the replacement doesn't take then you're out of luck because the 1 year guarantee has expired. MB will replace and not make you feel like it was your fault, and if the replacements don't all make it they will replace those. And yes I've had to have items replaced over the years and ordered from various places and MB has always been helpful and pleasant. Also, keep in mind if it's on sale really really cheap then you will not be getting the same product as the regular priced item, as this may be their way of clearing the weaker plants to make room for new plants. If you look carefully you'll notice that the penny items or super sale items are also listed as regular items and there is a big price difference. You won't get the $5.00 plant for pennies on the dollar so don't expect it. Be realistic.
Third, out of stock issues and unhelpful customer service is not the norm. Since their provider is also providing to several other nurseries and orders are coming in all the time from different places it isn't unlikely that some will cross or arrive at the same time and create an 'out of stock' situation. Be graceful and either wait patiently or cancel and get from another source (keep in mind your new source may have the same provider). Only so many plants are grown and once those are sold the nurseries have to wait until a new batch is grown. If your experience with customer service is not up to par then call and ask for a supervisor. People always assume if someone is working customer service then they will be pleasant and helpful at all time and know what they are talking about - not true. Just as with any job sometimes the person hired is a dud and unless the supervisor is informed will continue to give the company a bad rep. Sometimes the person contacted is having a bad day and while that should not affect their job it's not always the case so again the supervisor needs to know. No company or person is perfect, take the bad with the good and go higher up the chain if necessary.
I have personally ordered several times from MB. One year I ordered from 4-5 different companies. Upon getting my orders I noticed that MB items were better packed than some of the other more expensive companies and of the same size or quality. One of the higher quality, more expensive companies did not have my item and issued a refund without contacting me to see what I wanted to do. I would have been more than happy to wait until they got more even if it meant a longer than necessary wait, but wasn't given the choice. Since this item wasn't carried by my usual nurseries I was out of luck and not happy.
As one reviewer said, the plants may be smaller than expected and need some babying, but be patient and you'll see growth and your garden will flourish.
Not trying to say MB never makes mistakes or messes up, just recommending an open mind and realistic expectations.

After taking advantage of their sales special, I received part one of my order from Michigan Bulb today. I have never ordered from an internet or catalog company before and after reading some of the negative remarks made here, and due to the late in the season ordering, I was afraid of what I would find. However, the plants were shipped quickly, were well packed, moist and in overall good shape. I am sure it helped that the weather was cool and accommodating. Some of the plants were small, like the pomegranate kiss carnation, and one of the hollyhocks was a bit pale, but I am sure it will green up now that it is planted and the other will grow bigger. Overall, I was well pleased with my plants and I will order from Michigan Bulb again.

I was skeptical about ordering from these folks. But, I saw an internet ad featuring plants for very low prices. So, I ordered some Honeyberries and a couple of Goji berries since they both are usually fairly pricey, I noticed a box that said I got $20 off a $40 order so I ordered some blueberries to get it just above $40. My total dropped to just over $20. I had some difficulty getting the order finished because the website had some kind of issues with my credit card. I tried again a couple of hours later and was successful. I received an order confirmation email and later another with a shipping window of May 28 to June 28. A couple of days later, I got an email saying part of my order had shipped. A day later, I got an email saying that the rest had shipped. Three days later, I checked the UPS tracking number and saw that both packages had been delivered to the Post Office. I entered a different ship to address so I don't understand why they shipped to my bill to address. I went to the P.O., got the plants and they look very nice. I don't remember a size being specified. The Gojis were pretty small and a little wilted, the Honeygerries were maybe 5" high and healthy looking. The Blueberries were maybe 14" tall and nice and green. The small "Biopots" made planting easy. As of May 26, all have been planted. Since the plants were healthy looking upon arrival, I wouldn't try to get them replaced if they should happen to die later. About all I can say is that so far, Michigan Bulb has provided satisfactory service and , on sale items, very good pricing. Where else can you get Honeyberries for $3.99?

I have ordered many times from Michigan Bulb Company and usually have mixed results. The time I am commenting about is from a purchase made last spring, 2011. I ordered 72 Blue Moon Hydrangeas, the were all wilted and looked like they had had a hard journey. I went ahead and planted them when they arrived in the fall and prepped them for the winter. This spring only 2 of the 72 have sprouted. The rest are dead. I have contacted MBC many times and have yet to hear anything from them. I have continued to order from them because I enjoy their prices and when their plants arrive healthy they do very well. The only problem I have had is with the hydrangeas from last year and am very disappointed that after all of my purchases they chose not to return my emails.

As a side note:
I think I used to order from Michigan Bulb, in the 90's, while living in IL and I found all my orders were in great condition and grew well. I was very happy with my orders, I don't remember any negatives from ordering by mail.
Unlike Burgess, last year, who, after sending replacements that weren't the ones I initially ordered, (and came dead), they wanted me to again send in a shipping label, more stamps, stationery & envelopes! I finally gave up on them.
I don't see the use of wasting good money on a bad company. Even stamps, stationery, etc. in this economy is still money lost, in my books.

I have placed 4 or 5 orders with Michigan bulb this year. I have received all but one of the orders so far. Here are my comments:
"Expected Ship Date" -- With all of the orders I have had the same issue of Michigan bulb constantly pushing the estimated ship date back by a day or two (every day). So, if initially your item is expected to ship in 2 weeks - expect to wait 4. They say that they ship at the appropriate time for your area - apparently that allows them the wiggle room to constantly "update" your expected ship date.
Packaging - a lot of my potted plants were poorly packaged and/or damaged. This isn't a huge deal (I guess) if the roots are strong and the plant survives. So far most of mine seem to have recovered. -- The bare root plants and bulbs were packaged fine.
Price - Awesome! who can complain about their prices???
How the plants are doing: For the most part everything that I have ordered is planted and seems to be thriving. Which is great! I ordered five knockout rose bushes and 3 of the five arrived out of the packaging and damaged. I planted all five anyway. All five are now doing great. I ordered a lot of bare root hostas. They are poking through the ground and looking great already. My gladiola bulbs and daylillies are also starting to come up - so far so good.
Two of the plants I ordered are not doing so good. I ordered 6 bare root blue moon hydrangea plants. 4 of the 6 appear to be dead or dying. I ordered three blue hardy geraniums but they don't seem to be doing anything :(
Other than the geraniums and hydrangeas everything seems to be doing well and for a great price.
I'm leaving my rating as neutral and not positive only because of the two plants not doing well, the packaging, and the long shipment times.
But for the price - and considering most of my plants are doing great - I would order from Michigan Bulb again. you just need to know what you are getting.

update: I looked at my shipping information. I may have been too harsh on Michigan Bulb. My first two orders were mailed by 4/19/2012. I ordered them at the end of March. In the weeks between ordering and shipment, the expected ship date fluctuated between 4/12/2012 and 4/23/2012.
My Third Order was placed around 4/1/2012 and they mailed it on 4/30/2012.
My last order was placed on 4/27/2012 and is waiting to be shipped. Expected ship date alternates between 5/12 and 5/20.

I have been ordering from Michigan Bulb for years. I have never had a problem with any of their plants or getting a replacement on any plants that did not grow. I have and will order from them every year!!

This is the very first company, I have tried and most of my order was ok. My dwarf banana tree looks bad not sure it is going to make it, the top leaf was broke when it arrived and the few bottom leaves were all dead.. and my 3-1 butterfly bush was all shriveled up, not sure it is going to live. I emailed then the day i got them to let them know i wasnt happy with a couple of the plants and still havent heard from them..i still have a few that havent come in yet, so i guess i will have to wait and see how they are..
As far as my other plants they were small, but seem to be doing good.. and it does take awhile to recieve them, but i think i would order from them again..

I've often bought from Michigan Bulb. Yes, the plants are small, but that's why they're so inexpensive. I'm an experienced gardener, I don't know how a newbie would do with some of the bare root plants, although they do send a booklet with planting instructions. I have one hosta (bare root) that I purchased this year that's yet to spring, but I'm not too worried.
I think it's important to remember you get what you pay for.
First and foremost I should jump right in to the fact that the majority (not all... majority) of negative reviews I've seen for Michigan Bulb personally are due to complaints of shipping taking too long. I'm sure there are exceptions (as there always is) but the whole point of Michigan Bulb is that they won't ship you a plant unless it is ready to be planted in your particular zone. So you can go ahead and order in December but if the plant isn't ready it's still not going to get shipped until it's ready. I read somewhere that if you order too late in the season you'll receive your plants the NEXT planting season. I understand being excited/impatient, but it's unfair to rate poorly just because you didn't get your plants in a few days after your order. I'd rather wait and get them at their precise 'ready' time than get them too early and have them be too fragile or have a frost come along and kill them. Moving on... my shipment came yesterday with all but one plant in it, (that one has been shipped and will be arriving in a couple days) and everything was perfect. Anything potted was lush, green and larger than I had expected based on other reviews. All the bulbs were neatly packaged and the bareroots were already growing with leaves bright and green and healthy. The roots that were visable are not dry at all and look very healthy. The box was tidy and packaged in a way that nothing was shaken up or sliding around. I couldn't have been happier with what I got. I received prompt confirmation of order placement and shipping, was able to easily track the order on its way thereby knowing exactly when to expect it to be delivered. Now wether or not everything grows nicely over the next few years is yet to be seen but I will try to remember to update my review in the future.

I never write reviews but felt it was necessary to do for this company after reading so many negative comments!
I was very concerned after I placed my order with this company after reading SO many bad comments. Little did I know how great my experience would be. I placed my order, within 5 minutes received my email stating my order was placed. Within another minute received another email with the same statement about my order so I felt a little better about that. I logged in and my status ship date was scheduled. The next few days I logged in and checked the shipping date and it did change a little but still no worries since the weather in my zone wasn't ready to plant anyway. A week or so went by and then I got another email saying my order has shipped and it should be there soon! Logged in and sure enough it was shipped. Got my tracking number followed it till it showed up in only 3 days! The packaging was perfect, no issues at all, my plants looked great, YES they are small but seriously can you expect huge plants for what you paid for them? They all looked healthy and in good shape to plant. The weather has been a little chilly up here in PA and I haven't planted them yet, but have them all outside during the day and watering them. I also ordered the same from burpee and paid twice the amount for the same plants, burpees was a little bigger but these will catch right up I am sure. Burpee was out of stock for these and I needed 10 more to finish my project so I found this company and so glad I did. Saved so much money buy using them. So I am very pleased with this company and will order from them again in the near future. What great prices and coupons to help you save and yes they are smaller but give the some time and care and they will catch right up. Also for everyone that says they are dead little roots and they don't grow, they have a lifetime guarantee, so I would recommend using it and their phone number is right on the website! We got our first batch of plants today. Josee lilacs are beautiful little cuties with healthy leaves and roots. Snow-in-summer plants look fine too except for one but hopefully it will make it - guess, they just need sunlight after being packed carefully. In general, we are happy with the packaging, plants and delivery, although the delivery dates on the website kept changing, we got the plants exactly in the timeframe provided in the original order confirmation email. We are looking forward to receiving other plants we ordered and believe that they will be just as good.

Four years ago I ordered 3 cottage Inn Irises from Michigan Bulb company. All white. They finally flowered this year and one is brown, one is yellow, and one is blue. It really stinks when I was planting for a color scheme. I'm gonna do a good search for the receipt and then I will send a copy and pic of what they sent me. I won't order from them again. Item took long to grow and bloom and they could of cared less what color they sent me.

I've ordered several times from them in the past two years because - with the special offers that always seem to be available factored in - you can get a lot of plants for little money. I've had many more hits than misses, and they have willingly replaced plants that failed. It's true that their system for projecting shipping times can be frustrating, but when I've ordered by early March the plants have arrived by early April, which is as early as I want them in Zone 5.
Of course, if money grew on trees I'd always shop somewhere like Bluestone Perennials, but with a largish garden to populate and limited funds, Michigan Bulb has been a useful resource.

I bought these back in early March and just received them yesterday. The arrival date was updated twice but I didn't really have an issue with it as they did eventually make good on the order.
The plugs I got yes were rather small (about 3-4 inches tall not counting the soil part) but I have good soil at home and they were surprisingly strong and healthy! They had nice leaves and none yellow or dry. I used a nice coupon and got these for a descent price so I'm pleased. I have yet to receive the K&M rose but I'm totally looking forward to it!
If you want a giant 5 gallon rose plant, this is not for you. If you don't want to wait an extra few weeks and/or in a rush to receive the roses, this probably also isn't the place for you. But for my purposes, I think Michigan Bulb suits me just fine. Can't wait to buy more next season!! Take care guys!

I've bought a lot from Michigan Bulb through the years, and, as part of the Gurney's family, their trees are going to be poor, so just be careful about that part.
But, if you know what you're getting, this is a great resource. I ordered some roses, and they were puny, sure enough, but were cheap, a variety I wanted, and own-root. It's going to take some time for them to grow, but if you're willing to wait, and want to save money, that's what Michigan Bulb is about.
Just be aware their plants are going to be small, and they don't hide it. That's why you're getting a great price. With those expectations, I've overall been pleased with what I got from them. That puny rose I got this year will be much larger next year, have a nice shape (unlike grafted roses), and I'll have saved a lot of money. Michigan Bulb serves that market.
My expectations were not sky high, due to the low price and a few of the reviews here. I recieved my shipment today (right on time), of summer bulbs, blueberry shrubs, peony tubers, and a few odds and ends. Everything was larger than expected, and looked great. Very great looking roots and plants. I'm very pleased and will order from Michigan Bulb again soon!

I really feel that Michigan Bulb Co get's a bad wrap. I have never had any troubles with this company. I just called them yesterday about a rose I purchased that isn't coming out of dormancy. They are replacing it, no questions asked. While there have been times that their plants don't come out of dormancy, I know I can call them any time and they will replace it for me. That's terrific customer service.
I recently had six bareroot plants in the vegetable drawer of my fridge for well over a month because of bad weather. I pulled them out in late April, and they had started sprouting while still in the bags. Once planted, all of them are coming up and looking great. I love ordering from this company. The price is right, and they have fantastic service.

I ordered mostly tubers but the small Ketchup and Mustard rose bush had no damage at all. It is healthy color and about 6 inches tall. The Beacon Silver I received was small and had some dark leaves on the edges. I just got it so I am not sure how it will fair later on. This is my first experience with Michigan bulb. I purchased 7 different living plants, and they came in two shipping. First shipping been delivery but It lost on the way may be stolen or wrong house. I was worried but I send them email and they have very great customer service. They answered my question in the next business day, no quicker it can be. And they promise to redelivery within 5 days. Oh wow, they solved problem as fast as a lightning. They are nice and very polite. Life time guarantee is not their promise but the fact. The shipping that came to me already is dwarf lime. It is well packed, very healthy and beautiful. I was surprised by the size a bit it is about
5-6 inches above the dirt. But for the price that come with life time guarantee, I am just very happy with it. I will come back again and tell you how the other plants look. I have my own blog and Facebook, I 'll be posting all pictures when each plant just came and how they grow. 1st Concord grapeseedless looks like dead stick, but good size about my knee height included root. I never seen something like this, I plant golden delicious this year on late March, which bought from homedepot. At first it has no leave at all, but way taller about 5'. So I do believe this Grape will become really beautiful plant as well.
2nd I got Tiny Citrus Orange, looks handsome and healthy also but smaller than Lime I got before like 2" shorter, but very very beautiful.

Looks not really good, yellow brown leaves and skinny stem, looks very sick and no pretty at all.....I send email to customer service with its pics, My family do not want that stevia, may be return for refund or replace with another thing. We do not want ugly pot plant like that in the house.... period .... not as we image at all....

What is the great size of planter for Dwarf orane item no. 66622 and lime tree 66621? Mine both plants leves turn a bit yellow and look like need some extra care like a bigger pot? My plastic pot now are 12" height and deep and have drain hole. The plants both are about 6" from the soil.
Pros: I really reccomend Grape seedless concord, it grow fast and keep growing, I got a tiny flowers but they did not turn to be fruits and fall out. :) I don't expect fruit or grape after plant first season. So it is a bonus for me to see tiny flowers within a month. This is so amazing.
For Nanking Cherry, The wood stem that has yellow leaves. The leaves all dried and fall off, scared me at first :)) but it did grow right back from root made a new tender green stem with 10s leaves about 5-6" tall already, but will have to wait to become a bush, it grow slower than grape. :) Never mind. :D because it look like it has very strong root systems.
Cons: My dwarf orange tree and lime leaves turn a bit yellow. I am afraid to kill them. Customer service is available even after 5 pm, and I have not to wait to get a representative on phone, this is very great!
But I Called customer service asking the planter size for dwarf lime and orange, He told me that the full size of Orage and lime tree need 4' at least diameter and 6-9" height. I said Thak you and hung up politely BUT that sounds like a pound for a fish. O.o
Reccomend to provide the pot size for the mature plant in the information, I don't blame customer service because I did not know everything in the company that I work either. And I think it would be nicer if when the customer service do not know the answer should ask for customer email or ID to contact back for a right answer. I want a right answer not guessing.

The grapes annual growth cycle in the spring with bud break. In the Northern Hemisphere begins around March while in the Southern Hemisphere it begins around September when daily temperatures begin to surpass 50 degrees. The Flat and Wonderful Peach is out of stock for the year. It depends how old the roots are how long it will take. If your roots are two years old they produce the next season.

I ordered from this company for many times. Not because they have great plants, but sometimes can't resist the low price. To be frank, usually half of the plants didn't make it. Bulbs are fine, just small. The two clematis I just got all have pale yellow leaves, don't know how long they will last.
Anyway, you get what you paid for.
