Ordered 2000 worms, heard nothing, sent email, and got response that worms were sent already, got package said 500 worms called Jim said my mistake I will replace, a week go by nothing I called again and he finally sent me replacement another 500. Never got the other 1000 or a refund he said I was trying to rip him off.. Poor customer service...

After leaving first comment, Jim Shaw sent me a message on here saying he wanted to refund the money and send me worms to make this right. I provided the info via PM on this site as well as his "personal" email he sent me, I have yet to hear back from him... This is the same response I had with my order that was screwed up offer to fix then no further communications. If he does correct the issue I will be happy to change my comments and rating. Jim contacted me this evening to tell me they have had internet issues he is going to send the worms to correct the issues. Will post update once done On December 12th, 2013, kd2acu changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:
Uncle Jim made it right, after 2 years... He sent me replacement order free of charge, 2000 European Nightcrawlers arrived today in great shape. Thank you!
I ordered 2000 red wiglers from Uncle Jims and a week later they seem to be doing fine. This is my first time doing this and so far it's going well. They were quick responding to emails for me.
The only problem I had with the UJ experience is that there was no confirmation email explaining the process and approximately when I would receive the worms. An auto response email could be easily applied.
I had a bit of trouble with the website, since I first ordered 1000 Red Wrigglers, then after the fact, I tried to change the order to 2000. I could not get the order to go through on the website, so I contacted Jim and told him I would send the payment direct through PayPal. When my order arrived the following week, it's label read "1000 Reds." So, I contacted Jim again and he said he would ship the additional worms the following Monday. We had some unusually cold weather the following week, and my worms arrived dead. I contacted Jim again and he apologized and sent me another shipment. He emailed me several times to let me know when the shipment would arrive and sent it with extra special packaging. The worms were thriving when they arrived! Jim was a complete gentleman through the entire process. I have never experienced better service. I highly recommend "Uncle Jim's Worm Farm"!
So very happy with UJWF.
How kind and thoughtful.
I recently ordered a 5000 ct red worms.(and free shipping)
At the same time I tried unsuccessfully to add a double order of super worms (1000 $39.99)
But wanted them shipped together with the free shipping.
The ordering system is fixed in place with ship cost specific for each item, so order kept adding shipping.
I just then, ordered the 5000 RW's with free ship.
I did then add a comment to the order that I would have liked to have added the super worms :( but not the shipping.
Well I got my worm order as scheduled, alive and well.
But to my suprize, they also sent the 1000 super worms.
I e-mailed UJ and told him of the error and needed to pay for them, but was told not to worry about it.
I was compelled to let folks know that Uncle Jims WF
does good business and even when offered payment, just let it go.
I will reccomend UJ's to everyone.
And of course will do just that.
Thank you Uncle Jim

I ordered 500 Red Wiggler about two months ago. They arrived on time. I can't attest to the exact number of worms that showed up in the bag but it didn't seem like 500. I really wasn't concerned about it though because I realize this is an approximation rather than an exact count. We had one of the hottest summers this year with temperatues frequently in the high 90's to mid 100's and the worms show up alive. They were very sluggish and small (probably due to the material they were shipped in) but I dropped them into their new bedding and they quickly disappeared into their new environment. After a month and half I noticed cacoons and small worms in my bins so they appear to be doing very well. I am pleased with my worm purchase. I would order again but given how fast my worms seem to be reproducing, I don't know that I will have a need.
I ordered worms from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm and they arrived in my mailbox 46 hours after they were shipped...alive and VERY wiggly! Uncle Jim's is in Pennsylvania and we are in Florida. I expected to receive them in about 4 days so I was thrilled to get them so fast.
I didn't count them (I just can't imagine anyone ever would!) but there were LOTS and LOTS of very happy worms that are now in my Worm Factory. Now if I can care for them as well as Uncle Jim, I'll be doing great.
I ordered 2,000 Red Wigglers and 500 Mealworms from Uncle Jim's. I received my order a week ahead of when I initially thought! I placed my order on a Monday night and Uncle Jim only ships out on Monday mornings (to avoid being hung up in the mail on weekends). The following Monday was Memorial Day. With post offices being closed for a federal holiday, I figured on the order being shipped out on June 4th and arriving June 6th. To my surprise, I received an email from Uncle Jim on May 28th with a link to track the shipping progress. My order arrived on Wed., May 30th!
Besides me being happy about the early arrival of my order, the worms were very much alive. The Mealworms settled into their new home right away. The Red Wigglers are just starting to settle in. The bar is set high, as per a YouTube video; Uncle Jim treats his worms well, but they settled in eventually!
All in all, I am very pleased with this company. All of these negative reviews made me worry for nothing! I will be conducting business with this company again, when the need arises (can never have 'too many' worms!). Thank You Uncle Jim!

Recieved my order of 1000 Red Wiggler Worms only two days after completing online order! Awesome! Spoke to Uncle Jim's on the phone before order arrived and they told me instructions to follow when I received my worms, and also told me that instructions would be in the package. Received worms, all seemed very active. Placed them in keyhole garden as per instructions (on a VERY windy West Texas day, however) and majority of worms did not survive. Sadly, I called Uncle Jim's and they readily offered to ship another order that I expect to receive tomorrow. I strongly believe that it wasn't Uncle Jim's fault that so many of the worms died, but MINE for introducing them to their new environment on such a windy day. Regardless, this company was completely willing to replace the order. How can you beat customer service like that?!?! Highly recommend.
Positive is what my experience was ordering from these folks. they answer the phone and will help with any questions. Its amazing that people are willing to tear a companies reputation down just because a live product perished in the mail system. It happens, its a risk of ordering worms through the mail - This company stands by their product and will resend free of charge it this unfortunate event takes place.
I ordered from Uncle Jim on Wednesday, I received an e-mail letting me know that the order would be shipped the following Monday, Tuesday afternoon I got home from work and there was my order (I used standard shipping) I immediately opened the package and followed the simple directions. After picking the appropriate sites for my worms I placed them in my yard and the worms began tunneling into the ground, I went back to the 2 sites I had placed the Super Reds about 15 minutes later and all the worms had disappeared into the soil. Very, very satisfied. I live in North Carolina and we have hard clay, although I have been using organic fertilizers and soil amendments for 3 years now, so my soil is a bit more porous than most. I was extremely satisfied. I placed a double order (1,000 super reds) and they came in 2 bags (front and back yard) very happy, I didn't count to see if I'd gotten exactly 1,000 since I have a life, but there were a lot of worms and everyone of them survived.
I spent several weeks researching worm composting and the different products out there before purchasing my own "worm farm". I came across Uncle Jim's website. Being new to this, I had sent several emails to Jim with questions on the products he was selling on his website. Every reply from him was quick, concise and very helpful. I eventually purchased the Worm Factory 360 and worms from the Uncle Jim's website. As I expected, the factory came separately from the worms. When the worms arrived, it had been over the Thanksgiving weekend and they was a one day delay before I could get them. Some had died, but not all of them. That was on a Friday. On the following Monday Jim had already sent another batch of worms to me. They arrived a couple days later and were just fine! This company, and Jim, have been nothing short of friendly, helpful and quick to reply. I would definitely recommend this company!
Our community was planning to order a big amount of 10,000 Eisenia Foetida worms and a couple of 'Worm Friendly Habitat' bin of theirs for our organic gardening club. so we called before we ordered. They say they would ship it on monday(we called friday) 2 days after, our orders arrived. The packaging was neat. We decided to weigh them because of the notion that 1,000 red wigglers should weigh 10 lbs. ... well, it was a little less than 10 lbs. so we didn't mind because of the shipping it went through, besides, the worms were healthy and lively. 3 weeks after(now) the worms are thriving on our bins. We will refer them on other communities. Good experience.
I've been ordering Alabama jumpers from them every summer for family fishing trips. I never had problems with regards to shipment, sloppy worms or worm count. They also have a great customer service(I asked how I can maybe raise my own stock of the worms) Overall, Good.
I ordered 2000 red worms from their website. I think I got more than 2000 red wigglers because I included what I think was baby Red Wiggler(they were) the thing was that some of the worms were kinda tired. I called their customer service right away then they told me to give the worms this oatmeal treat. So I did and I covered it and let the bin undisturbed for the day. The following day, I was excited to check my bin and to check on the worms. To my relief, I was very happy to see the worms wriggling actively when disturbed. Their customer service was really great.
I was referred to buy from this website by a friend. I've been hunting worms to add to my garden and composting bin and I finally got lazy doing it during Sundays. Anyway, a friend told me about this website and I checked it out. The site was ok and the product details are there.
I noticed they have a customer support number so I gave them a call. I asked for advice how many worms I should buy for my organic gardening and composting ventures. They recommended me to order 2000 red wigglers(they could have told me to order 5000 worms and I would if they've told me to)My order was shipped about a week later after my order on March 21. When my order arrived I thought the packaging was nice, I was anxious to check the worms out and count them. I got 2013 worms and discovered some cocoons counting along. My ordering experience was a good. I was kinda shocked to see ragingly negative comments here. That's why I decided to add comment.
I had some questions that needed addressed before ordering. So i called the phone number that was posted clearly on the front page, beneath the clever photograph of uncle jim wearing an intercom set. The customer service representative was very informative, and was able to address my concerns with clear details, instructions and suggestions. I received the worms as estimated, but i was skeptical about how many were actually there. Rather than jump the gun, i did as instructed, adding water to their dehydrated bodies, and surely enough, they did plump back up to much more healthy sizes. I was very pleased with my 1000 red wriggler order, and very satisfied to the assurance that i was offered by their helpful staff. I will sure order from this company again.

I am very pleased with my purchase. This is a first time purchase with this company and I am absolutely happy with every aspect of my experience with them. I did have a small problem with some of my worms not making it but I do not blame it on the company! I wrote them a short email and the next thing you know Jim had written to me letting me know that another shipment was on it's way no questions asked! I am completely satisfied and will make more and larger purchases in the very near future!
I ordered 2000 red worms from Uncle Jims and when I got them, many had died, so count was low, but when I emailed him about the situation, he corrected it as fast as possible, by sending more worms, that looked better. I don't think it was Uncle Jim's fault, being the weather was cold and all. All I can say is thanks for taking care of me and you have a repeat customer here! Great way to do business Uncle Jim!!
I've ordered several times from Uncle Jim's and also talked to them for advice on gardening and use of their compost.
They've always been intelligent and professional, and have delivered quality worm compost and worms.
I see some of these negative reviews on here and it looks to me like people think worms and worm farmers are machines. Fact is, when you order live organisms to be shipped hundreds or thousands of miles, you are dealing with a dynamic situation.
It's not like ordering a book from Amazon. Living organisms may not always survive the harsh handling in the shipping system. The complainers seem to be people who are into instant gratification, and who expect the impossible. In every case, you can see that Uncle Jim's does whatever it takes to make things right.
Those of us in the gardening community need to have some respect and patience with each other. The way some of these negative commenters are slagging Uncle Jim's, it reflects more on the commenters' state of mind than it does on Uncle Jim's.
The bottom line is that Uncle Jim's are good people and they are helping the world get into organic gardening. Negative commenters- have a little respect, ok?
I placed an order with Uncle Jim's, and was pleased that they only shipped the orders out on Mondays, so the worms would not get stuck over the weekend. I received the order shortly after, on Wednesday. I was concerned with their condition, but after reading the instructions, felt at ease that it was normal for them to appear small and unhealthy after a long transit in "bone dry" peat moss. The wigglers bounced back in as little as a day after i gave them some water, and plumped up to a marvelous size. My experience was worth what i paid for. Definitely a great and reliable seller, with a great and informative website.

I ordered 20,000 reds and corresponded via e-mail and phone due to the large order. One box arrived on time with live worms. The second box did not arrive after five days but I communicated again both by phone and e-mail. The second box arrived the following week with mostly smelly dead worms. Uncle Jim is hands-on and had access to the information regarding delivery as well as our communication. The bottom line, I paid for product I did not receive and I expected more customer service and care.
On February 24th, 2011, chetk changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:
Through professional and personal courtesy, Uncle Jim shipped another box of worms which arrived in great shape and completed our order. Although originally frustrated we were made whole and the worm farm is thriving. We were so happy with the communication that we ordered a 90 gallon composter too! Thanks Uncle Jim for the follow up and service!
Ordered 2000 red worms, due to the Christmas mail they arrived late and most were dead. Called Uncle Jim's and told them about it and they shipped out another order the next Monday. They arrived well and looking for food. I did not have to go into a long detailed description of the events the minute I said that they had arrived mostly dead they told me they promised live worms and would reship them right away. They were true to their word
On December 18th, I ordered 2000 red wigglers from Uncle Jim's. I knew that they'd be shipping on Monday, the 20th. I did get the tracking number Monday, but it wasn't registering well. I expected them on Thursday...Nothing. Friday came, and I received a letter in the mailbox telling me that they couldn't deliver them because I wasn't home-OUR WHOLE FAMILY WAS HERE! I wasn't able to get in to the post office til Monday when they opened, and when I got there, all but about 100 worms were dead. I fully blame the post office for this mess, but I decided to email Jim and let him know what happened just because. Without even asking, he offered to ship me out a NEW package of worms with guaranteed shipping! Awesome, awesome customer service. I will be ordering from Uncle Jim again, and I will pass on to all my friends that they should do the same. Thanks a ton, Jim!!!
I am so pleased with Uncle Jim's. I live up near Anchorage, Alaska, and it's cold (mid-December)! I recently set up a worm composter in my kitchen, but was having a hard time finding locally grown worms. One place sells red wigglers, but it is nearly $10 per 50 worms!! I ordered 2,000 red wigglers through Uncle Jim's for just under $40 including shipping. I notified my post office that I would be receiving live worms. Sure enough, I got a phone call from the post office bright and early on Thursday morning (worms ship on Mondays to avoid waiting in the post office through the weekend). The worms were neatly tied up in a mesh sack and packed in a box lined with newspaper. I have no way of knowing if there were 2,000 worms, but there sure were a heck of a lot of worms! I only saw about 4 dead worms out of the whole pile. Compared to the worms I originally obtained locally, Uncle Jim's worms were really robust. Good size, much longer than my locally obtained worms, and once they hit the prepared bedding, they took on a beautiful shine. They were a little sluggish for the first few hours, but had perked right up by the next morning. I would recommend this company without hesitation for anyone wanting live worms for composting. Just make sure you notify the post office ahead of time so you can be called when they arrive. I'm so glad that I won't be having to throw out so much kitchen waste. I just didn't want to start up an outdoor compost bin here because there are quite a few bears in the area. Overall rating: 2 thumbs up!
I ordered 2000 worms from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm On Sept 22, 2010. My worms were shipped USPS priority on the following Monday, just as the website said they would. They arrived at my PO Box on Wed Sept, 29th (a two day journey from PA to MT). My worms were small, as I expected, but I have no doubt there were 2000 in the box.
My daughters (ages 2 and 3) and I brought them home and added them to our already started compost bin. We had our compost bin set up for over 2 weeks prior to ordering the worms and had been adding fruit and veggie scraps during that time. We made sure the soil was moist and the fruit and veggie scraps were mixed in with the soil. We made a small hole in the center of the soil and added the worms all at once. We covered them with wet newspaper and put the top on our bin. We checked on our worms this morning (two days after adding them to the bin) to see how they are doing and I am pleased to report that they are happy, super fat, wriggling, and thriving!
I will say that I wish Uncle Jim's worm farm had sent me a confirmation that they had shipped the worms and had provided me with a tracking #. I paid through PayPal and if they had printed their shipping label through PayPal, I would have been emailed confirmation that my order had been shipped and would have gotten a delivery confirmation #. This practice would really protect Uncle Jim's Worm Farm as a company and let customers know when to expect their worms with no extra effort on the company's part as PayPal would send the email automatically. Besides, delivery confirmation is free if you ship via PayPal for priority packages so there is nothing to lose or extra cost involved for that peace of mind. It would just give a better record for customer and the business as a whole so everyone was on the same page.
We live in a very rural part of MT where mail is not delivered to individual homes so everyone in my town has PO Boxes. I think it certainly helped my worms that they were not subject to extreme temps due to the fact that they were waiting for me at the PO in a temp controlled environment and not just sitting in my mailbox or on a front porch waiting for me to get home and unpack them.
All in all, my experience with Uncle Jim's Worm Farm was a very positive one. As a customer I am happy with my purchase and my worms have a happy new home.
I came here to post about my experience with Uncle Jims. I got a Worm Factory on Craigslist but could not find a local source for worms. I made many calls and used the find worms site to no avail.
Finally I ordered 2,000 redworms from Uncle Jims for $36 shipped. I used a 10% coupon code UJW10 that I found on retailmenot.com.
I educated myself as to what to expect by watching the youtube video someone posted on Garden Web about what a pound of worms should look like. I also found that (in general and very roughly) 1000 redworms=1 lb. SO I was expecting a big old box weighing well over 2 pounds with bedding.
What I got was a small bag (a couple of large handfuls) of seemingly healthy worms. I weighed them on my food scale, and the worms with bag and bedding weighed just over 1.5 pounds. It didn't LOOK like 2,000 worms, but it was hard to tell. I do know that some sites said worms can lose half of their body weight in shipment. If that was the case, and assuming I got average size worms, 2,000 worms might only weigh a pound. It was a hard call for me, but I wanted to make sure I got what I paid for.
I sent a polite email explaining that I did not think I had received 2,000 worms, but that I could not be sure as I didn't count them. I listed the weight of the bag when I received it. Four days later (today), a brand new large bag of healthy worms showed up in my mail box. It was a nice surprise, because I was all set to call them and have to argue my case. All of my worms appear to be healthy and thriving. I'm happy with the price I paid and excited about starting this project.
I am very pleased with the customer service, and will order from them again if I need worms in the future.
I can't say enough about my experience with Uncle Jim's Worm Farm. I ordered 500 Super Worms and received my worms the following week on a Wednesday. They were in great condition and quickly dove into their bed. I didn't count them singularly, but felt there probably weren't 500 worms, so being as I am, I contacted them regarding this. I received a quick reply and after this was satisfied. To my surprise I just recieved more worms, healthy as well, even after telling them I was satisfied earlier. I'd recommend this site to anyone and plan to!
I ordered 2,000 red wigglers with free shipping on a Wednesday. The order was easy to place, and I received confirmation for my order in a timely manner. The following Monday I still hadn't received the shipment or shipping confirmation so emailed the company. They were quick to reply, letting me know that the orders always ship on Mondays and my order would arrive soon. On Wednesday the worms arrived!
I followed the directions in the package to give the worms a "drink," then a few minutes later placed them in the bin. They all seem to be alive and doing well!
I will order from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm again. After searching online, I found them to be very reasonably priced and I was impressed with their service. Yay worms!
Back in May I ordered 2000 red wigglers from you and just wanted to send you a update on how its going, it is just over 3 months since they came in and I am very impressed with the worms not only are they thriving but now I have the problem of too many worms...lol I almost ordered another 5000 from you in june just to speed up what I am working towards here but decided to wait to see what the results were by the end of june I checked my first bin ( this is my very first attempt at doing this also) I had well over 500 eggs that I ended up placing into a second bin ( both bins being the 22 gallon plastic totes) in no time it looked as if I needed a third bin due to how crowded the first one was getting with the worms so I bought 2 30 gallon totes and now with the new totes and the old ones they are full of red worms and eggs and I am actually looking at building 5 foot beds that can be stacked to try and house them all, if I am to guess right now I have ten times the amount of worms that I started out with just over 3 months ago and still have a ton of eggs. I can grab a hand full of the compost mix and will have about 50 worms and maybe 6 egg cases in my hand. What I have learned from doing this and from the research I have done online they say to avoid anerobic soil conditions in the bins, but my largest worms and most of my egg case come from those layers. I have shredded about 30 pounds of cardboard and newspaper and used so far in the bins and they have converted that along with the plant matter over to almost perfect compost soil. Anyway sorry this is so long but I wanted to let you know how things were going and to say thanks and great work on your part for the job your doing..............
I have been also ordering red worms from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm for years. They are doing a great service for me and my gardening club! Alot of worm farms come and go but Uncle Jim's has been around since the 1960's so thats saying something.
I've been ordering from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm for over 15 years. Only had a problem with dead worms once. Shipping live products (in the hot months) does have it risks but they sent me more worms free of charge ASAP when the worm did arrive perished due to heat once. Jeff the office manager was as nice as could be.
Worms arrived quickly and in good shape. I like that they were shipped in a light soil, not coir. Appears to me that these traveled better than worms I bought from another source. These were shipped from PA to NH. I recommend that you order worms when you expect weather to be moderate, to promote survival of the worms.
