I have used unclejims for european worms for about a year now and im done with them. thier shipping sucks, they only ship on monday. If there is a issue with the order the CSR are very condescending and borderline rude and the shipping cost are extremely high. My last order had over 50% loss and took 10 days to get to me, according to the UPS tracking number it sat on their dock for 5 days... when i called there was no apology or any effort at all to make the situation right. The CSR made the situation feel that it was my fault that the order took 10 fricken days to get to me. nothing like paying a premium for shipping and getting ripped off to keep your customers pissed.
i need a new supplier of european pre-packaged worms, any suggestions?
The worst experience of online ordering in years. Condescending attitude and no acceptance of responsibility for a extremely delayed shipment. "what world do I live on" was the answer to a shipment that took 8 days while the shipping cost was for a 1 to 3 day delivery.
Very arrogant, in this day of "customer service for a sale" this was appalling.

I really believe this company should specify on their web site & order form that online orders/shipments are only for the U.S.

You would think that they would offer shipping to Canada, as I had bought their largest amount of red wrigglers, and planned on buying more. Oh well, I guess our money is no good to them.

This guy boasts about being featured on Oprah Winfrey, and being in business for 40 years yet he still cant seem to meet the basic needs of customers.Then again Oprah Winfrey has promoted liars and plagiarists (James frey) on her show so I dont think that exactly gives him any credibility. On the bright side.. I cant wait to start my farm and chip away at his customer base.Maybe then he'll take his business and the people who support him more seriously.
I ordered a worm composter, 2,000 worms and a soil cube maker. They never provided a follow up email to identify date of shipping, Transit number or anything. A week later I called and they told me my composter would be delivered on Friday and that the worms would be shipped the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday). The composter came as they said.
A week later, I called again and they said that the worms had been shipped on Tuesday and I should get them in the next day or so. On Friday I called again and got the same information that the worms had been shipped on Tuesday. On Monday, still no worms, so I called again. This time I was told that the worms were being shipped that day. I asked if I could come up and pick them up since I lived reasonably close by. They said no. So now I am waiting for my worms and soil blocker. It has been 3 weeks and will probably take another 3 days, I will never buy from this supplier again. They talk on their associates webpage about building a brand name and then they can charge more, but in my book, their brand has litttle value.
I ordered 2000 meal worms on December 19th and was told they were 1-2 day delivery. After calling them every other days and half the time no one picking up. about a week ago i was told a new shipment had been sent because the other was lost in the mail. its is now January 11th 2012 and i have NOT got them yet. No reply to my emails or voicemails this place is CRAP and i want my money back!
I have been raising worms for some time now without a hitch. I recently decided to order five pounds of red wigglers from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm. There first mistake was shipping when the weather was in the upper 90's. When the worms arrived they looked rough but most of them were alive. Got them cooled down and put in a small bin with good moisture and the same kind of bedding that I have used for a long time. Two days later they started dieing very quickly. The PH level of the soil was good, the temp was perfect and the moisture was perfect. Not only did they die but my other worms started quickly dieing. Now we are in a panic trying to save worms that I have been raising for 8 years. It now looks as if we will have to start from scratch. What ever was wrong with these worms has spread to all of them. E-mails and messages have gone ignored. I am out $100.00 and 8 years of work. Thanks Uncle Jim.
I own a small worm-provider in Chicago and have ordered from Uncle Jim several times, happy about Free Shipping (no longer offered) and the reasonably quick ship times. I've spent several hundred dollars and referred at least 20 people to Uncle Jim, when they were looking for more worms than I keep on hand. Despite all this, his treatment of me has been horrendous.
Upon weighing my next order from Jim, I found it to be less than half of what was promised (5000 worms, 2 lb. Jim agrees that worms weigh ~1lb per 1000). He said that he'd send more, which he did, but not enough to make up the difference.
I didn't learn from that mistake, so I ordered another time. This time, I had to pay for shipping ($9.50!). I never received a ship notice, and after several emails asking what had happened, with myself getting progressively angrier and Uncle Jim sending back one-line emails that ignored the issue, I got pretty fed-up. It's been a full month since I ordered, still no sign of the worms. I cancelled the credit card payment and am submitting a complaint to BBB.
There are lots of other worm options. They may be more expensive, but at least you'll get what you order!

This is very upsetting to read this negative review. We stand by our commitment to keep customers happy. If there is a problem we are surely not hiding- our 800 number is posted right on our home page. We have live customer service from 10am to 6pm est 5 days a week. This is our busy season and sometimes the e-mail are short but thats the nature of small business, we try our best but sometimes it is hard to please all personality types and we do drop the ball from time to time.
As far as the worm counts- please understand that 5 lbs of packed worms at our facility is not by a long shot going to be 5 lbs when delivered. We ship our worms in very dry peat in help insure the worms don't goo up and die of overheating or freezing- they might lose 40% to 70% of there weight after being shipped through the USPS for 3 to 5 days! This means what is 5 pounds at our place might be 2 or 3 pounds by the time you get it.
I've been doing this 30 years and do not want to rip anyone off of getting what they paid for I assure you. Its not worth it after paying for the web site, the facilities/feeding/caring/picking/packing and postage of the worms
We try to tell folks that they will fatten back up with 2 or 3 weeks when given moist bedding and feed. Its hard to get some customers to accept this- and if a customers really feel they didn't get the good count we will resend more worm free of charge as most all customers(even upset ones will)attest to.
In the end we are just a simple worm farm and it gets hectic this time of year and we might drop the ball on our end from time to time but I personally want to ensure all customers that we will do are very best to stand by our product and customer service. "

I have sent 5 emails to the company and have received no reply! I cannot call the 1-800 number as it is only for US customers and I am in Canada. Uncle Jim has stolen from me! I am posting this in hopes that Uncle Jim will read this and give me my money back!
My next step is the BBB. Also, Uncle Jim posted on his website "As seen on Oprah" - well when the Oprah Group finds out about Uncle Jim's Business Practice he will have to remove the post.

You cannot get ahold of us because as you found out our 800 only accepts domestic calls. I am not sure why we haven't gotten your e-mails because I assure you we do try to answer every one of this. We do not want to steal your money!
You stated your order was canceled- This would be why we never saw it in the system- There could have been a issue with the Credit card info because you are out of country and they put a hold possibility on the card and it kicked your order over the the canceled section which obviously we don't go and look it- I'll do a search by your last name and see if I can resolve this issue.

Look elsewhere if you like customer service. Very dishonest company. They sent me a coupon code after my first purchase. When attempting to enter the code it did not work. Sent an e-mail to the company and they asked for the confirmation number to apply the discount. Sent them 2 e-mails with the information and still have not heard back from them (sent a cc with e-mail to ensure that it went through) .Very ashamed of this company.
Am sorry to say that I also purchased a book from this company. Realize when ordering from them that you will not get what you ordered; you will get what they decide to give you. A 1000 worm order may include 10, 100 or maybe even 300 worms. When you e-mail them for customer support you will be ignored. The do not have a phone number either.
In the future, I will definetely avoid this company and will tell my friends and family the same.
I wasn't sure I should order from Uncle Jim's because of the negative remarks. However, I thought there were enough positive reviews that I could take a chance.
As others have reported, I was shorted. I counted my worms carefully. I ordered 2000 and I got 709! I guess they count on people not wanting to take the time to count them... but even the weight was a clear giveaway!
I sure don't want to have to wait through two or more shipments (like others have) before I get all the worms I ordered. I don't know how they stay in business! I'll call them in the morning and report back on the final outcome.

There were only 608 worms in a box marked as having 2000 worms. I called Uncle Jims, and told them the count, and that their counting machines must be out of caliber. They assured me that another 1500 worms were on the way.
A week later, on February 16th, another box, marked 2000 worms arrived, this time weighed in at a little more than last time, but still less than 1.5 pounds. Again we counted them. 853 worms in this order. Called Uncle Jims, they said another box would be sent.
Today, February 25th, the third box arrived. This one marked as 1000 worms. My frustration levels are high now, and my cynicism has grown into full blown expectations of another disappointment. Uncle Jims did not fail to meet those low expectations.
The box weighed barely 1 pound. It was marked as 1000 worms. The total worm count? 522 worms.
This comes across to me as false advertising at best, and appears as outright fraud, even if it's not. They supposedly sent out 5000 worms, and yet the total count of all three shipments was a grand total of 2083 worms. That's 59% less than what the boxes said they contained.
I paid for 2000 worms, and finally after nearly a month,(January 31st to February 25th) three phone calls later, and probably 45 minutes sifting through worms and peat we got 2000 worms. I should have gotten 2000 worms in the first place, but Uncle Jims knows that few people will take the time or effort to actually count the worms that they ordered.
If asked, I could not possibly recommend this company in good conscience, knowing that after three tries over the span of a month, they cannot put even close to the correct number of worms in a box. It's wrong to tell customers that they are buying 2000 worms, and then send only 600, or even 800, or to send a box marked "1000 reds" and then send only 522. It's deceitful. It's a lie.
My advice, should you decide to order from Uncle Jims anyway, order a small amount first, like 2000 or less, and then count them. That 15 minutes could save you a lot of time, effort, frustration, and money.
Or, save yourself a lot of work and wasted time, and order from another company to begin with.
I would not recommend dealing with this company if you are trying to purchase red wigglers (eisenia foetida). I purchased two pounds of worms from them but noticed the next day their crawl behavior was different from normal reds. I did my homework and sure enough, I received blue worms (perionyx excavatus) they have a blue sheen if you shine light on them. another way I was able to tell is that their eggs are actually white and tiny not like regular red wiggler eggs which look brown and are about 3-4 times larger. I have raised reds in the past, ordered from the same company so I know for sure there is a difference. Even my gf, sister and mother were able to point out that these worms were different--and they haven't done the extensive research.
The difference in the worm species is an important point for any one in an area where temperatures might drop below 40 degrees as you will have massive worm die off. I did try to contact them though email and didn't have any response at first Then I called and spoke to Jeff, who had me send him a picture (which i did as well). He said he would show Jim and took my number to get back to me. Several emails and months later I have given up trying to get anything out of their customer service and will not be doing business with them. They know that they are conducting unethical business, and I will not be trusting this "Uncle" with my money again.
I ordered a worm farm and 1,000 worms on April 26, 2010 -"Happy Earth Day to me!" Everything just showed up (6) weeks later, with no advanced warning email that the shipment was in the mail...so make sure you plan on being home until worms arrive at your door! The bag that the worms arrived in was slashed, with half the worms exposed and dead in the box.
I contacted the company and asked for a refund on the worms. They said they would still send the worms. It's 2 months later (Sept 14), I contacted the company last Thurs requesting my money again, it's now Wed and no response to my last email, my worms or refund...they don't seem to be very consistant or organized...very disappointing!

I ordered $174.00 in product from this company over 30 days ago. I never received it and let paypal know. The claim is now escalated with paypal and they are dealing with them. I have sent 5 emails to company and they had said they would refund my money from paypal, paypal says that company has not responded to them on this claim. I do not believe I will see my product or my money from this company until I send this on the BBB and consumer affairs which I am doing tomorrow morning. And I will write on every post about this company that I can find.
I ordered 2000 worms. Received only 1000 worms, bad quality. Have had no response from my emails. Took $40 of my hard earned money.My advice be very careful and check around a lot before buying. i ordered 250 red wigglers and three wire mesh composting frames for my classroom garden-the money was taken out of my bank account on march 9th-the worms arrived three days later, all alive, all healthy..the composting frames have never arrived-i have e-mailed them multiple times and leave daily phone messages requesting my frames or my money returned-nobody responds to either
What a poor excuse for a business these guys are. My order arrived 15 days late and even now the website claims the order is pending. Needless to say all the worms were dead and now my mailman is pissed off at me for having to put the shipping box in his truck because of the smell of death. You can't contact them at all, emails are ignored, people on the phone don't have anyway of contacting the "customer service" department.
This company has extremely bad customer service - I wish I had done more research before I ordered from them. They don't provide tracking numbers so I have no idea when the worms are going to arrive (if at all). I placed my order on a Friday and they didn't ship on the following Monday like their website said they would. Since then, I have called twice to ask about my order status and try to find out when or if my order will be shipped, and each time I get a different person who writes down my name and phone number and tells me someone will call me back - but they don't call back. I am getting very close to disputing the charge on my credit card - I'm feeling extremely scammed since they took my money but aren't shipping my worms and aren't calling me back.
This guy is a total ripoff. I ordered 2000 red worms which should have been close to 2 lbs. The package arrived 6 days after shipping and total weight was close to a pound including peat they were shipped in. There looked to be around 200 worms. I emailed him that I wasn't happy but no response. I'll order elsewhere now.

I received dead worms after 2 weeks and several emails inquiring. I was charged 2$ more for shipping than the price stamped on the very small and dried out mailing box. The worms had mostly broken out and wiggled off to die. Those that hadn't escaped were dead or dying. When I emailed Jim, very upset, he responded that I was simpled (sic) minded and hiding behind a computer? and it wasn't his fault that the lazy mailman had left the worms in a hot truck all day. My postmistress had kept the worms off the last truck of their journey and called me at home to come and pick them up, allready too late. I assumed the shipping would be safe and would have previously been found to be satisfactory. Simpled minded of me.
