I wanted to tell everyone that Santa Rosa Gardens really do stand behind their quality promise. I ordered a bunch of Miscanthus Variegatus in October of 2007 and they were very small when they arrived. I planted them and mulched them but they did not survive. I contacted customer service and within the week, no questions asked, I had replacements. That's what I call great service.

Dina's customer service is outstanding! She was very professional and helpful when it came to an error in my shipment. She agreed to adding some additional plants to the shipment, so I saved on the shipping charges. The plants are excellent and the prices reasonable! I particularly appreciate the care of the packaging, and the use of recyclable materials in packing. I have done alot of on-line
plant shopping and have to say that you are the best I have ever encountered. I have shopped with Niche Gardens, Wayside and Parks, Dutch Gardens, and a couple of others, however, the best plants came from Santa Rosa, bar none. The only way they could improve, is to include more native plants. I will buy a native before anything. I did find great natives there, and am always on the look out for more varieties.

I got my second part of my order yesterday. Dina had graciously allowed me to add items to the back ordered ones so that I could avoid paying shipment. The new plants all exceed my expectations. The only issue I had was with a Cordyline whcih was labeled as Chocolate Queen, but did not look like the picture.
Dina just called me say that she agreed, and that she had searched the greenhouse to find a plant which did match the picture. She told me that she will send it to me next week, and even though it is a bigger plant, there will be no extra charge.
Because of the excellent plants, superior customer service and fair prices, added to the great packing and shipping, I will never shop elsewhere for on line plants. They have Wayside and Parks beat, hands down. On May 23, 2008, Santa Rosa Gardens responded with:

Received an order today from Santa Rosa Gardens. I recommend them highly. The plants are beautiful and very healthy, were packed better than I've ever seen, each one had netting on it then wrapped in thick paper(bio-degradable). The Astilbe have blooms on them even! Got a Burgon & Ball trowel and garden fork 50% off, boy are they heavy duty! Quick shipping and great customer service.
I will definately be ordering from them again! Thanks for such a positive experience :)

I found them by accident looking up a plant; and I am so glad I did. Great company, great plants!!! OH I FORGOT TO MENTION, THEY HAVE GREAT SALES!!! :)

Well couldn't help myself from ordering from Santarosagardens again this year, wow, what great bargains and great size plants!!! I am so thrilled and have told many people about this company. I just am amazed at how they send such great sized plants and their sales are fantastic, keep up the great work and I will continue to be a great customer! If you haven't tried them please DO! And the shipping is not expensive either, which is really GREAT!!!
Thanks Santarosagardens for such a wonderful nursery that cares about their customers!! And Dina Johnson is awesome, an asset to her company for sure! :)
Just received my order of 16 ornamental grasses (miscanthus sinensis 'gracillimus') here in Eugene, OR. They arrived in great shape and quickly. Well packaged, still moist, and healthy. I also got a great deal on the price as they were on sale.
I'm excited about getting them in the ground and watching the grasses grow.

I am pleased to tell you that my order (all plants) arrived in spectacular condition and were large and well grown plants. Santa Rosa Gardens, paid attention to my request for delivery and to the most important part...the plants. Plants I received...fountain grass-purple (on sale in the middle of the season--wha-who!!), astilbe (2) -- big and beautiful!
Just wanted to say a big "thank you" for the plants I ordered from you last fall. They were in beautiful condition when they arrived yesterday, with massive root systems. I am very pleased and will probably order again. The mesh sleeves around the plants is ingenious!
Yesterday my ornamental grass arrived. Once again, my order arrived beautifully packaged and the vibrant, healthy plants arrived in perfect condition! The planting guide is well written and leaves no question unanswered.
Some of your prices are just a tiny bit higher than other places but it is money well spent. I have ordered from other sites in the past and the plants arrive in such poor condition that many never have a chance to survive.
Thank you for your professionalism and obvious love of plants. It is obvious that they receive excellent care in your hands.
A+ company! Selection of grasses was outstanding! Received Miscanthus Strictus, Pennisetum Hameln, and several carex varieties. All in healthy condition and nice size as well. Will be back for more when new beds are ready!
I placed my order online last weekend and received it within 4 days. The grasses were packed well (individually) and are very healthy. The ordering process was quick and easy and the person that I spoke with to make an inquiry was very helpful and professional. I would absolutely order from this company again.

I contacted customer service because the first order that I placed Sunday on their website, needed to be changd. I asked them to cancel that order so that I could order again. The young lady was so pleasant, and immediately took care of me. I received an email confirmation within 2 minutes. I then called back five minutes later regarding pennisetum princess which was listed as out of stock. The same lady checked for me and said they had a new shipment. She had me wait less than a minute so that she could update the computer system. I was then able to add this into my order immediately. She was not just nice to work with, but knowledgable, and able to discuss several items that I was considering.
I wish that I could remember her name and give her credit.
The plants arrived in three days and look great. They were larger than I was anticipating from mail order, and have a healthy root system. They were also less expensive than a competing company that doesn't have a good rating.
I would whole heartedly recommend this company. Good selection, pricing, product, and excellent customer service. I am hooked.
I order many ornamental grassses and was so surprised at the size and quality. I wrote a note to the company to thank them for sending plants that I would actually buy in person. I told them of some of the bad experiences I have had. Very next day I received a pitiful order. I sat the two orders side by side and took a photo for both companies. The other one should be ashamed. This is the place for me!!!!

Thanks Santa Rosa for the wonderful plants! Dina is so friendly and nice to work with. I ordered 8 varieties of grasses and several perennials. The grasses were the first I'd purchased online, but look to be very healthy plants. The perennials are the best I've ever received through mail order. I did have 1 variety that was dormant, but am told it will grow out very soon with warm weather. If not, Dina promises to take care of any problems. They also had an online coupon on their site for $10 off my order!!!! What a great ordering experience! I'm sure I'll be back for more!

Very fast delivery. Ordered on a Thursday and the plants arrived in CA the following Wednesday. Packaging was great, all recycleable plain brown paper - NO STYROFOAM PEANUTS! I appreciate that. Three plants I ordered are just coming out of dormancy so I'm unable to determine their health, four others are healthy and green and should do fine. I attempted to order Geranium Rozanne, but within a day of ordering, Dina wrote saying they could not be shipped to CA. That's fine, I found another source. Can't remember if their web page for that plant indicated it couldn't be shipped to CA. All in all, a great experience so far. We'll see how the plants do. I dont know of any company that would care enough to do that. I received my plants 3 days later. The packaging is by far the best I have seen, ever! Not one speck of dirt in the box. The plants were huge!!! All are in perfect condition, not a leaf out of place. They also included a free gift, A beautiful white amaryllis bulb the size of a softball!! My experience has been very good - i should have rated this company months ago...
After i waited too late in October to order tulip bulbs from companies that were recommended to me, i found Santa Rosa Gardens listed here. Their ratings were excellent, but almost all of them seemed to be for grasses. There was no mention of bulbs. But the prices were good, and they had most of what i wanted, so i ordered.
i got my Santa Rosa Gardens order in a very timely fashion and i was really happy with it - all the bulbs (tulips, daffs, chionodoxa) looked great! They were well packaged - "Garden Joy" brand, and everything (except the smallish ipheion) looks big and healthy. Much better than the bulbs i ordered elsewhere last year!
And they sent me a surprise gift - a red lion amaryllis. As in a whole plant! i was REALLY surprised. it was more than 2 feet tall. i gave it to a friend who enjoys indoor plants, and it has done well.
i eagerly anticipate blooms in the spring, and will likely order some tall grass from SRG then also!

All plants, 4" or liner size, had excellent root systems and healthy top growth. I'm quite happy with what I received, and even happier with the reasonable prices.

The perennials and grasses are in bigger pots than most that charge the same price and everything is very well rooted. That is a huge benefit. The plant prices and shipping are very reasonable.
They have a huge selection of ornamental grasses. The fact that they have perennials is a bonus.
The plants are careful packaged and always arrive in perfect condition. The nets are the best packing strategy that I have seen yet. I have received plants from many mail order nurseries that are all broken and bent. The nets really seem to keep the plants intact.
The customer service is friendly and helpful. The website is easy to use and allows easy access to previous orders. They take Paypal…which is a plus for those of us that prefer not to give out bank card information all over the internet.
I will continue to shop at Santa Rosa first….

The plants actually come from another company called Emerald Coast Growers,Pensacola, FL.I called their # and the woman at that number couldn't have been more rude and unprofessional even if she had tried! Then she informed me that they don't handle complaints and gave me the # to Santa Rosa Gardens.
I spoke to Darleen who has a Great sense about her and a dry sense of humor and all the charm you expect from a Southern Lady ( even though she said she was from "up north" (Georgia). She told me that they would send the Black Night out on Monday and to give the pale lav. plant to a neighbor.
I personally think that if they are going to be connected with another company they should make sure to hire better staff, like they have working at Santa Rosa Gardens.

I apologize for any unpleasant experience you may have had with your recent purchase. Our goal is to always provide top quality plants with top quality service.
I have to correct an inaccuracy in your post. Emerald Coast Growers does not grow our plants. We purchase our starter plugs from them, but plant, grow and ship all of our own product in our greenhouses. Our experience with them as a wholesale supplier has always been first rate and I know they have an excellent customer service reputation within the industry. Emerald Coast does not deal with homeowners nor do they sell directly to the public. Calling them rather than us is like having a problem with your new computer and calling the chip manufacturer.
Back to the plant issue. Dina (not Darleen) was correct. It's not very common, but on occassion a plant may be incorrectly tagged in our greenhouses. We will always stand behind our varieties and repace/refund/credit any issue with a plant that is not true to variety.
Thanks for taking the time to post your experience and please remember, if you have any issue, contact us immediately, not any of our wholesale suppliers. We're always there for our customers.

They're having a half-price sale on many grasses, including all these, and are delivering very well-rooted 4" pots.
Each plant was packaged in a mesh sleeve, which holds the pot (holding in the soil) and extends most of the way up the foliage. Each plant is then rolled in several layers of padded packing paper, and laid on it's side in the carton, alternating pots at each end, so nothing can move.
I have never gotten plants by mail in such perfect condition. The only casualty was a single flower stem on the free bonus Miscanthus sinensis 'Graziella' they included in the shipment.
The total for 29 perfect plants was $78.61, including freight, for a per plant price, delivered, of $2.71.
I'm very very pleased with Santa Rosa's product quality, attention to detail in packaging, and price. The bonus 'Graziella' didn't hurt, either.
Check them out!

Great quality and size -- especially for the price (eg, $5.99 for a painted Japanese fern that can cost as much as $15). The packing was impeccable, and they threw in an extra plant for free, even though I only ordered a half-dozen plants. One died, alas, but they're sending me a replacement after a quick phone call, no-questions-asked. Gave me two small pots of one of the mini hostas because they didn't have the 4" size.
