After reading all of the reviews, I was nervous about placing my order. I placed my order on 9 March (and hoped for the best!). I received my plants--packaged nicely--on the 22nd. The citrus plants look fantastic and the berries like sticks (but that is typical), the pepper plant a little wilted, but it's in soil now. I've just started planting now so time will tell on how well they do. I hope to post back in a few months with an update, but as far as the ordering and delivery, I'm satisfied with the service and the plants. They even sent two seed packets (tomato and cantaloupe) and two types of bulbs (gladiolas and shamrock) as a gift for my order.
I figured I'd offer my experience because it seemed to be different than most (or perhaps when things go as they should, we tend not to follow up?). Either way, so far so good on my order and delivery. Good luck planting!

I placed an order for over $217.00. I anxiously awaited my oder to arrive. I had ordered several fruit trees, blackberries, grapes, raspberries, various tomato and pepper plants as well as several pkts of seeds. As of this date, everything except 1 fruit tree has been delivered and everything has arrived in appearingly good condition. Fruit trees and fruit plants often look like dead sticks, but they are only dormant. Plant them as directed. You most likely will be surprised...maybe even amazed at what grows from those dead sticks! I will admit that I did call to check on my order and was help by a very polite gentleman named John. He promised my Fruit trees would ship out by the beginning of the next week. Fed Ex delivered them 2 dsys later. I called to thank John for his prompt attention to my order, but a rather rude woman refused to let me speak to him. KUDOS to JOHN for being polite, honest and attenative to my order. By the way the tomato and pepper plants arrived yesterday and all of them are thick and lush green. No problems with my order. And we will order again next year... and hopefully John will attend to our order.
I have had good luck with this company, my plants have done very well. I have recently been purchasing the dawn redwood tree which have done well and they are quite beautiufl for something that has been around since the dinasaur days.

But I started to worry so I emailed them asking when I could expect my order, I knew it would be shipped when it was supposed to be planted but I was unsure of when that was.
The next day I get home from work, the package was there with everything in it, looks good all but one plant, but it isn't dead so I have hope it is in shock. Everything else is exactly what I ordered and some is already starting to sprout. I will most likely order from them again next year.
my wife and i had a new home built and ordered lots of trees and flowers from them.. all plants arrived on time and in great shape.. due to some super heavy rains we had to wait a week to plant.. thru the summer 0f 2010 we had very little rain and with some simple watering and care all plants are growing strong and looking good.. just cuz some people had a bad experience or didnt read the instructions for shipping and replacement doesnt mean this company sucks.. we really like them and have recommended them to several ppl with the same satisfying results.. My employer a tow company even purchased 200 hybrid poplar trees and all are growing strong a look good with very little care or love.. sry others have had a bad time but hey i will order from them as long as they offer great deals and quality plants like we recieved in the past..

Several years ago I ordered plants from Farmer's Seed & Nursery. Roses and some other things. They sent them on their own schedule, as they had said that they would, and despite my black-thumb fumbling, all are doing well at my other house. I was over there two weeks ago and checked on them.
This past winter I ordered trees, ground covers, and roses for this house. Again I simply waited for them to arrive without calling to check on the order. FS&N stated that they would send the plants at the proper time. I believed them. And they did.
And again, despite all my black-thumb issues - everything, except a few of the little phylox, seem to be doing well.
I am completely happy with the company, and in fact; only came across this website as I searched for the FS&N website to order more plants. I don't see any reason to go anywhere else. The people were very sweet to me before on the telephone and now via e-mail. They were very helpful, and tolerant of my gardening ignorance, and have always done as they said that they would.
They warranty everything they sell and I fully expect that they would carry through with their promises.
Perhaps my experience with FS&N is unique, but I very much doubt it.
I ordered a few plants. three were dead from the heat of summer shipping. I sent back the label. They said they would ship in the fall. I received my new plants with fall shipping. They seem fine at this time. Communication was not very well with the phone calls I made to inquire about the order.
We ordered about $40 worth of seeds, including a few plants, from this company. It did take a little long to receive them compared to other internet orders, but it says when you order them that orders take up to two weeks to be processed, then shipped, so I think it was just about that. Our seeds have come up just fine and our plants seem to be fine although it is a little soon to tell. We nearly tried to cancel our order after reading reviews on this site, but we are satisfied after all.
I ordered several items, all of which arrived in good shape. In particular, the strawberry plants were well rooted mature stock, and all 100 of them are growing just fine, although I do wish they had been shipped a little earlier. The yostaberry plants were also well established plants, and are growing fine. The paw paw trees were ok. And the citrus trees are all growing fine, alhough the orange tree was a little small, but the lime tree is already blooming after only about 1 month. All in all my experience with Farmer Seed is that they have exceeded my expectations for a mail order nursery.
I have been trying to find out about the order I made in January, as it is now March and getting rather late to plant here. When I try to contact them I am redirected to some other company's website, and there is no address or phone number for customer service. What's the deal?

Farmers did email me back when I contacted the right dept. I received my order yesterday and today via the post box, and it all looks pretty decent. I soaked the things that hadn't broken dormancy in root stimulator, and planted the things that were already leafing out. I am relieved because I also placed orders with Burgess and Direct Gardening. If I get the stuff I ordered from them and it looks as viable, I won't have a problem ordering from Farmers again, as I am as big a penny pincher as they come and their prices can't be beat.
I recently ordered from Farmer Seed and Nursery. Then I found your comment pages and thought I may have made a mistake by placing an order with them. I contacted them by e-mail and questioned them flat out about whether or not I should cancel my order. Within 48 hours I received a reply that everything was fine and that I had nothing to worry about. I figured that I would never get the items in time to plant and that if I did they would be rotten. Well, I was wrong. Many people have complained and I am sure that some are genuine, but I'll bet a bunch of those people complaining are to blame for their own bad experiences. How quick were they to get the mail, and how did they take care of the plants, etc? I am not trying to discount honest complaints, and I am sure that a lot of bad plants do get shipped, but my experiences with Farmer Seed have so far been excellent.All four packages arrived in perfect shape, and many of the plants were growing profusely when opened. Many items were shipped in overages, apparently to make up for possible losses in transit, but this was not necessary, as all plants are alive and well. I ordered $75.00 worth and this included seeds, trees, bulbs, houseplants, and many other plants. The items were shipped almost immediately and were separated into like item packages. All four packages arrived within 5 days of each other and in perfect time for my planting season. The plants are just as described in the catalog and are first rate plants. I am writing this to help people who are undecided about whether they should do business with Farmer Seed. Yes, you can order with confidence from them. I have to repeat myself and say that Farmer Seed and Nursery is an excellent company. They will be receiving more orders from me!
