I ordered from Diane last year and had very good results from her seeds. I really appreciate that she has glassine envelopes available for a smaller seed gatherer. Highly recommend her!
Thank you Diane. After reading Secrets of a Seedswoman I don't know how you do it all and with a smile. My order was filled with a little extra in a timely manner. Need some cold weather to get some of my seeds going. But I know that they will grow to be a wonderful addition to my garden.

I found her webpage by pure luck. Didn't know this watchdog area was here. I did a "seed" search and found Dianes seeds.
Extremely pleased with my seeds, none out of stock, and all were packaged and sent with love. Great site and communication.
Now all I have to do is my part. Will use again. Thanks
I have purchased seeds from Diane several times. I have found her to be very helpful with questions. She ships her products out promptly. Her prices and postage rates are the best I have found on the internet. I would highly recommend purchasing seeds from her.

(First year of starting seeds, rather than buying plants from the nursery.)
Fast delivery. Seeds were clean, well-packed, and generous. Great germination rate; 80% of Agastache sprouted within the first week.
My first order was for several varieties of Agastache, and it came with a free pack of another A. species, which is a very thoughtful choice. (Although I lost that tray to a microburst wind gust... perhaps we were just not fated to be. Next year...)
The website echews flashy design for browsable elegance. Plant listings are informative, but a little more on post-germ. care like pruning would have been nice for this gardening beginner. The in-depth articles are immensely enjoyable reads.
Only wish I had found the site a little earlier in the season.

I ordered 3 seed packets earlier this month (Scabiosa ochroleuca, Linaria reticulata, and Centaurea cyanus mix). They came very quickly and they were a great deal for the amount of seeds. Also, each packet was in a reclosable zip-like small plastic bag which is great since it's resealable.

Outstanding. I ordered seeds on Tuesday afternoon, received a confirmation email straight away, and the seeds were in my mailbox this afternoon (Friday). Generous amounts of seed, nicely packaged. The website is easy to navigate with clear descriptions and photos of plants, and helpful advice from Diane, with her lists and links for more information. Especially happy to find a couple of varieties here that I haven't seen elsewhere. Will order again from this company. Thanks, too, for the free (surprise) packet of seeds!

I placed my order today; and realized upon receiving my receipt (and notice that it would ship tomorrow morning) that I had forgotten to order one type of seed. I emailed Diane asking if there was any way to place the order without incuring another $2.95 shipping charge (which is very reasonable, I just didn't want to pay it again!). She immediately responded to place the order and she would refund the charge. Within 5 minutes of placing the order (no exaggeration) she had refunded the shipping charge and sent me email to let me know that she had done so. I haven't even received my order yet and I'm already impressed at how Diane went above and beyond to make sure I was happy.
I wish I had known about Diane's Seeds long before. She has a wonderful selection and the seeds are well packed and labeled. I will continue to order from Diane. I highly recommend her.
Thank you Diane for surprising me with a free pack of seeds with my order.

I ordered my seeds on Sunday, and got my confirmation e-mail by Sunday night. The seeds were shipped, as promised, on Monday, and an e-mail was sent that they had shipped. Very good-looking and well-packaged seeds arrived on Friday. There are a lot of seeds for the price, and the shipping charge is the lowest I've found. I was very pleased with the prompt service, and will order again!

Overall the service is excellent. Quick shipping and she sends more seeds for a lower price than anyone else.
My only gripe is I ordered daylily seeds and after I received them she included a note saying I'd be lucky to get one to germinate. This should be told upfront rather than after you paid for the seeds. It's no big deal though. I just wanted to mention it so others could know in advance.
On Mar 28, 2009, Diane's Flower Seeds responded with:
I appreciate your posting a positive comment about my seed business. But I think you misunderstood the daylily seed starting information that I included with the order. Here's exactly what the instructions say, "Growing daylilies from seed is challenging. If you end up with one plant from a packet of seeds, you are doing well. If you don't get any, you may want to consider buying plants." I didn't realize that this statement could be interpreted in a negative way. I'll remove it from the instructions in the future.
What I meant to say is that daylily seeds are more challenging to start than the average perennial. Not only do they require pre-soaking and chilling, but the moisture level of the soil needs to be monitored daily. If they dry out, even once, the seeds might fail to germinate. My customers have had a wide range of experiences with starting daylily seeds. Some people consistently get 100% germination, while others get nothing. I don't want beginner gardeners to be too disappointed if they have poor germination rates, but understand that it's just because daylily seeds are tricky. For those who get good germination rates, I want to congratulate them on their success.
"
First let me say that the Garden Watchdog has completely changed the way I order seeds and plants. No more Parks (how many years can they be out of pink achimenes no matter how early I order? Stop listing them if you never plan to stock them!) or Wayside or Whiteflower. No more overpriced puny plants, long shipping delays and high shipping prices. I order from companies with good feed back and wow, has it made a wonderful difference.
I ordered 10 pkts of seed from Diane's on March 13 and received them on March 19. I like the reusable plastic envelopes and she supplies more seed per packet than any of the big companies such as the aforementioned and sucky Parks as well as Burpee and T&M. Plus I got a generous amount of free Ensign convovulous. Selecting and ordering on the site was a breeze.
I wonder how long, if ever, it will take the catalog senders to realize that there is such a thing as the Internet and that it allows people to communicate and share their purchasing experience.
Ordering and payment process was convenient and smooth. Order confirmation was emailed to me right away. The seeds I ordered arrived very fast, neatly packed with clear instructions. Excellent service, thank you Diane!
i order almost all my plants, seeds etc online. Dianes is very easy to use, huge selection of seeds, informative and very reasonable shipping. will order in the future from her site. will report further as to how fast i receive the order and germination success. A+ SITE.

Really interesting selection of seeds, and pictures and descriptions were most enticing! I ordered quite a few "new to me" items and the seed that didn't need chilling is sprouting well after only a few days. Buying seed from a company like this makes starting your own plants really satisfying.
Discovered the website last year through Dave's website and ordered a variety of seeds. Prices are great, selection is good, S&H charges were very reasonable compared with other companies and order arrived within a few days. All germinated very well except for one pkt. of lupine so I contacted Diane. She was able to track the variety and reported no problem in germination tests. Within a few days my lupine seedlings all appeared so clearly my conditions were at fault. She was quick to respond to my e-mails and very helpful. As an experienced seed starter and gardener I appreciate a source for unusual varieities and customer friendly service at affordable prices. This is it!
I ordered from Diane Jan 20th 09, Within the hour I had an e-mail telling me my order would be sent out the next day. I received them today. She also sent a free packet of seeds. She is very fast and very friendly. I am looking forward to doing business with her in the future.

I believe it was 2007 when I first found Diane's Flower Seeds and ordered from her. The seeds I ordered from her all had good germination, including some tree and daylilly seeds. As I recall, I had a ton of questions and she answered each and every one promptly in emails. Excellent service from Diane.
I will try my best to remember to update my review of this company after the 2009 seeds have grown so now I am only commenting on the pre-growing experience for this year.
Website: Easy to navigate. Also has a google search option which didn't work that well for me. I suspect it is user error and I can find out how to use the google search box from the google website. Can also search either by genus or by common name directly from the home page.
Checkout was simple and quick and they use a paypal shopping cart but you don't have to have a paypal account to check out, just a credit card. You can use your paypal account, though. You can also order by snail mail and pay with a check.
Merchant Rating with BBB: I always check this before ordering online but I still haven't located her on the BBB. I purchased based upon my own past experience with this company and originally, from the other reviews here on Watchdog. I purchased from her before she was in the top 30 catagory.
Seed Selection: According to the site, they sell open-pollinated and heirloom flower seeds, including rare perennials and easy-to-grow annuals (including re-seeding varieties!). They also have heirloom tomato seeds, vegetable and herb seeds and daylily seeds.
Shipping: Super Quick and came in a standard bubble manilla envelope. I appreciate her stamping the words non machinable because there have been orders from other companies in the past that have arrived with seeds crushed because of the postal machinery. They did as I requested and emailed me to let me know that they had shipped my order.
Seed count for price: You get what you see on the site and she shows you how many seeds you get for the price on each item. I belive her prices are very reasonable.
Product information: Pictures (thumbnails of usually just the fruit or bloom on varieties). Adequate information on each variety I looked at. However, I find that most of the helpful information on this site is located in a section called Gardening Articles and I would recommend a visit to the site based on the information alone. I also love her links page which has a number of excellent gardening sites noted as well as a list of her favorite books! Like peeking into her journal!
The seed packets are glassine envelopes enclosed in tiny ziplock bags. I love her seed envelopes! There isn't much more than basic sowing information on the seed envelopes, however. If you are like me and need a ton of info, then you need to have your information about your order elsewhere because it wont come packaged with your order. This is a minor issue for me. And, she does have the seed germination tips as well as starting seeds indoors info on her garden articles page.
Far as I can tell, there is not a paper catalog available.
I have had a good experience with Diane's seeds and will continue to order from them. Matter of fact, I just saw some skullcap that I can't find anywhere else..especially at that price. Going to order right now.
On January 25th, 2009, CarynDalton added the following:
Forgot to mention before that her shipping prices are incredible!
$2.95 on orders up to $50
$3.95 on orders over $50
$3.95 on foreign orders (outside U.S.) up to $100
$14.95 on foreign orders over $100 (for registered mail)
With these glowing ratings, I'm not sure Diane's Flower Seeds needs yet another great review -- but here it is. I discovered the company this year through Garden Watchdog, and decided to place a small order. I quite enjoyed using their website. The selection of flowers and heirloom tomatoes is superb. A detailed page on each variety contains a great photo, all the descriptive information you'd expect, and sometimes a rare and welcome subjective comment (as when the taste of certain tomatoes falls short despite their good looks -- we all know it happens!).
The service I received was flawless. Within hours of placing my on-line order, I received an e-mail confirmation from Diane. I received the seeds in well under a week! Seeds come in small re-sealable plastic packets, and the labels clearly indicate varieties that need special treatment, such as chilling, chipping, and/or soaking.
Will definitely order from Diane's Garden Seeds again!
I have ordered from Diane's Seeds on several occasions. Her seed is always of the highest quality and the germination rates have been excellent. I have ordered both flowers and vegetables. It is always nice to be able to support small businesses such as Diane Seeds in a world where the large seed companies dominate. I also appreciate the fact that she accepts Pay Pal for payment. The less places I need to give my credit card number the better.
