First time mail order from Made in the Shade Gardens and couldn't be more satisfied. Excellent communication: I was notified when the plants shipped giving me time to prepare for their arrival. Bare root hostas arrived in excellent condition: obviously freshly dug, roots were clean, healthy, and moist. Would order again from this company.
I was looking for a specific hosta and found this site. Service was prompt and plants arrived in excellent conditionwith e-mail followups to be sure I was satisfied. I would highly recommend this company.

This company really cares about its customers. Rob notified me by email when my order would be shipped and then checked to make sure I was satisfied. My hosta was packed very well and arrived in perfect condition. I chose them because of their prices, and was also very pleased by their service.

We received our first order from Rob. He kept me up to date from the day they were shipped until I received them! The hosta's are beautiful and very well packaged. I have ordered from Made in the Shade several times as I love hostas and I have not been disappointed. I received 10 Paradigms a couple of weeks ago and they are beautiful.

I ordered four hostas simply from the description and information contained in this website, as I literally know nothing about hostas and am not really a gardner. When I received them, I was concerned about one of them that seemed less "weighty" than the others and thought maybe the plant would die. When I wrote an email to the company, I received very timely responses and advice. All the plants are now (three months later) thriving and I've had many compliments.
This is a fabulous company!!!!!!

While doing a search for a specific variety of hosta, I found Rob's company Made In the Shade Gardens. I was impressed with the background information about him and his company and contacted him for a price quote. He was prompt, helpful, and business-like. After placing the order with him, I found that the plants were shipped promptly and arrived with solidly developed roots and in good condition. I was impressed with Rob's continued prompt responses and a good quality product. I am looking forward to buying more hostas from him in the future!

Original comment was from last year. I just placed two more orders with Rob this year (for someone else and for me). My order arrived quickly. The plants were extremely healthy looking, and packed perfectly. Not one leaf was injured in shipping due to the fantastic way they packaged everything. I order Olive Bailey Langdon and Great Expectations. The shipping was fine and the plants look healthy, but I am kind of disappointed this time. The root systems and divisions were much smaller than usual. I'm not sure why. I've gotten some nice plants and big ones in the past. It's a good company but I know I can get bigger hostas elsewhere.
I wish all businesses were operated the way this one does - fast & friendly service with a quality product. I agree with all other positive posters. This was my first order and I am sure it won't be the last.

Great experience! Rob is very helpful and prompt in getting back to you with questions, and follow up to make sure your order arrived in good condition. I was looking to add to my original order of 'Venus', specifically hostas with wonderful flowers. He made some great suggestions, and I increased my order. :-) All arrived in perfect shape with strong healthy root systems. Each variety since planted 3 weeks ago, have all increased in size and are growing nicely. Looking forward to seeing the flowers later this summer. I highly recommend Made in the Shade!

On May 6 I received an email saying that my plants had shipped as requested and should be on my doorstep that day. Sure enough, they were...and they were beautiful, large bare-root plants that were will packed and in perfect condition when I received them. They were nicely rooted, too, so they began to take off growing as soon as I planted them.
I'm completely satisfied with the communication and the quality of the product I received from Made in the Shade. I'll definitely shop with them again.
I clicked on to Dave's to leave a positive feedback for MADE IN THE SHADE GARDENS but after reading the other feedbacks they have recieved there is not much more I can say. It was my first order from them and everything was perfect. Wonderful, large healthy divisions shipped with great care and attention to detail. They are a real customer oriented Company and a pleasure to deal with.

This is the first time I have ordered from this company, but it definitely won't be the last. Rob really deserves the 100% rating he has. I was a little worried about ordering due to the summer heat, but after reading the reviews I decided to chance it. It really wasn't taking a chance since he obviously has done this before, and knew exactly what he was doing. All of my plants were large and healthy, and they arrived in excellent condition. He even gave me money off one of my choices because a leaf had a rip in it! I've gotten so many plants in bad shape in good weather, and nobody ever cared if what they looked like [always told to plant and it would grow, eventually]. If you are in the market for hosta's, give them a look see. I think you will surprised by the prices and selection, and pleasantly surprised at the order you will receive. I rate Made in the Shade and Rob right up there with the best of them.

Had an awesome experience with Made in the Shade - my 4 hostas arrived in GREAT condition. I was impressed with the packaging (simple and effective!) and the health/size of the plants inside. The price was much better than my local nurseries even with shipping factored in. Great communication from Rob regarding the estimated arrival of the plants. I was leery of ordering live plants through mail due to bad experiences with other companies in the past. Rob was great, suggested a shipping date for my area, and it arrived promptly when shipped. Third order just received. Rob is very personable, quick to respond and good follow through. Plants healthy and quick to establish the first year, the ones from last year are coming up a treat. Rob has a very extensive selection so its a dangerous place to shop for the Hosta addicted, be warned.
I received my order within 2 days, as Rob predicted. The plants were in good shape and all was well. The thing I appreciated most was that Rob kept in touch with me through e-mails making sure I knew the arrival date and checking to see if I received my order and if I was satisfied. I will do business with this company again.
I met Rob as a new member of AHS and the $15.00 voucher redeemable program for new members. The five Hostas I ordered arrived on the day I had ask and what beatuiful plants, the root systems were unbeliveable. I am planning a trip with 3 other Hosta Lovers at the end of April so we can get more of these beautiful, healthy plants. Sue H.
This is the second year I've ordered hostas from Rob. Rob is prompt at responding to questions, and very helpful. The plants have arrived healthy & well packed. I recommend this company, and plan to order more hostas from him next year.
What a terrific experience. The Fried Bananas Hosta I ordered was beautiful with clean, well established roots and had about 8 leaves. Rob was so quick with answers to questions getting right back to me. With the extensive selection, great customer service and top notch plants, why order your Hostas from any other place?!
