I placed a large order with Swallowtail Garden Seeds and the order was lost....just my luck. However, when I contacted the company they replaced the order for me with a 10% discount automatically. I did not even ask for the discount or complain. They volunteered it. The lost order was just a website issue and really not a big deal. They seeds were shipped quickly and arrived well packaged. I have already started most of the seeds inside and they appear to be doing very well. This has been the best expierence I have had so far with online ordering.
I highly recommend this company for seeds. I ordered last year and again this year. My seeds came very fast, my order was complete and correct. The planting instructions well detailed. My morning glories and other vines started from seed grew into beautiful plants that bloomed all summer and into late fall. I started many of the plants inside and they transported well. Very high germination rate that turned into hardy and beautiful plants.

I just got my seeds in - they where well packed with very easy planting instructions. Even the primerose had special extra tips for growing! I cannot wait to see these in my garden - they are in seed trays now I will update this to let you know how many come up.

Out of seven packets three came up near 100%, two came up less then 50%, and one was a no show. I had close to 100% from every trade so I have no idea what the problem is . I will order again because they have good prices, but only after trying to trade for it first. On May 21st, 2005, 75154 changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:
Replaced and all growing - wonderful place to get your seeds. I have my fall order ready to place now, they really stand behind their seeds. On August 11th, 2005, 75154 added the following:

Last year I placed an order at Swallowtail Seeds. Took a little while but finally my package arrived and I tore into it with great anticipation, only to find that the entire order was wrong. I wrote the company, and I wasn't at all happy. They called me, on the very next day, a Sunday, to find out what had happened. We never did figure out exactly what went wrong, but they not only mailed my order promptly, they also let me keep the seeds that had been sent to me by mistake. I planted these seeds in my cutting garden and was very pleased with the germination.

I have marked SwallowTail in my Favorites for Seed Ordering. I will check here before I order seeds anywhere else. It was a great website, easy to order, very reasonably priced, and shipped quickly. The packages were wonderful, labeled and included growing instructions. I just can't say enough positives about this company and my first experience with them.

Just found Swallowtail Garden Seeds and sent an order to them as they had seeds for some perennials that I did not find in catalogs of other "big name" companies that I get catalogs from. They recieved my order on Monday, mailed it out Tuesday and I recieved it on Friday of the same week. Was very pleased with their prompt service. Now I am very hopeful that I will be just as pleased with the success rate of their seeds!
Now that it is the end of the season, I have time to make a quick comment about Swallowtail Gardens. I placed a fairly large order earlier this year. The service was exceptional! Packaging, labeling and germination information were very good as were the germination rate and quality of the plants. The price is slightly higher than larger companies; however, I have been "burned" all too often by the larger companies. I have every intention of placing another order this year, and would not hesitate what-so-ever to make a clear recommendation for others.

I"ve placed a number of orders with this company in the past year. I think they provide an exceptional value, especially considering that postage is included in the price. Since my first order, I always check to see if Swallowtail has any seeds I want before looking elsewhere.
Shipping has been timely whenever I've ordered, and I've had great germination with the seeds too.
I have ordered many times from Swallowtail.I find their service and seeds top notch . They are fast and I find the price of their seeds very fair .I will continue to purchase from Swallowtail for years to come.Thank You Swallowtail for being the company that you are .

A little expensive, though less so since shipping is free. The selection works well for cottage gardens and there are some difficult to find varieties. I got my order promptly and the seeds are well packaged. Would order from them again.
Wonderful company! I enjoyed looking through they're selection of seeds and found just what I was looking for. Wave petunia seeds came pelleted for easy sowing, planted 24 seeds and had 100% germination within one week! Would definitely recommend this company and the free shipping is just the icing on the cake!
I recently placed my first order with this company and just received it. Overall, I don't find their selections to be too out of the ordinary, but they do have a well rounded selection of annuals, perennials/biennials, veg/herbs.
They do have a rather interesting selection of hollyhock seeds, including some unusual colors and some dwarf varieties. They also have seed for some quite lovely mallow (which they refer to as "zebra hollyhock" (I ordered the 'zebrina'), along with some other last minute odds and ends.
Another thing I liked about the company is that there are no handling/shipping or other hidden charges. What the total of the seeds cost is what you pay.
Assuming the germ rate on these seeds I just received is good, I'd order from them again.
I will say that the order took about a week and a half, so place your orders early if you need your seeds right away.
I have ordered twice now with this company and each order has arrived quickly and well-packed. I am impressed by several things. First, most of the seed packages include a huge number of seeds- several times larger than you would be able to buy in a traditional seed packet. There are varieties that have a limited number and this is clearly stated on the website. Secondly, of the varieties that I've started, I am getting a very good rate of germination. A couple of the ones that I was expecting a long slow germination period with a fairly low rate of germination from my past experience, have germinated in just one week, with nearly 100% sprouting!
With good customer service, good germination, and tons of seeds, what more could you ask for? Thank you Swallowtail Seeds!

Gardenwatchdog is such a great forum!
My best mail-order horticulture experience yet, has been Swallowtail seeds, in Spring 2002.
I was immediately intrigued by their eclectic seed selections and good prices. They were one of the few organizations offering Wormwood, (and other interesting varieties). I ordered Wormwood, Hyssop, and Monarda. All had good germination, with the Wormwood almost too high germination--the pots became overgrown too quickly for me to deal with.
Their shipping & handling charge was modest, which is rare among mail order companies. Also, while many companies act as though a personal check is an inconvenience, Swallowtail accepted my check & still delivered quickly.
I ordered from them because they are located nearby AND offered free shipping. The packaging is great, you get good value for money, and when one of my selections was sold out, they substituted something similar FOR FREE. Would order from them again in a heartbeat.

I ordered from Swallowtail this spring and was very pleased with the service, free shipping and seeds. I especially like their packaging. There is a lot of information on the front and inside the packets of some of the small seeds were glassine envelope to contain those seeds. I just placed another order with them today. Highly recommend!

Top-notch people & excellent seeds. The free shipping is very nice. I ordered from them for the first time this month & received my order quickly. I'm already having great results from seeds I started indoors on 1/28 (just 3 days ago). I recommend Swallowtail Garden Seeds very highly.

I have ordered seeds from these folks three times now and have been VERY happy with them. Everything that the two folks before me said is true AND SHIPPING IS FREE!!!! I hate it when I order a packet of seeds and get hit with a $3.95 shipping charge. Well, at Swallowtail, that won't happen to you. I will DEFINITELY order from them again and again and again. Be sure to check out those new apricot twist sunflowers they sell :-)
