Now that it is the end of the season, I have time to make a quick comment about Swallowtail Gardens. I placed a fairly large order earlier this year. The service was exceptional! Packaging, labeling and germination information were very good as were the germination rate and quality of the plants. The price is slightly higher than larger companies; however, I have been "burned" all too often by the larger companies. I have every intention of placing another order this year, and would not hesitate what-so-ever to make a clear recommendation for others.

I"ve placed a number of orders with this company in the past year. I think they provide an exceptional value, especially considering that postage is included in the price. Since my first order, I always check to see if Swallowtail has any seeds I want before looking elsewhere.
Shipping has been timely whenever I've ordered, and I've had great germination with the seeds too.
I have ordered many times from Swallowtail.I find their service and seeds top notch . They are fast and I find the price of their seeds very fair .I will continue to purchase from Swallowtail for years to come.Thank You Swallowtail for being the company that you are .

A little expensive, though less so since shipping is free. The selection works well for cottage gardens and there are some difficult to find varieties. I got my order promptly and the seeds are well packaged. Would order from them again.
Wonderful company! I enjoyed looking through they're selection of seeds and found just what I was looking for. Wave petunia seeds came pelleted for easy sowing, planted 24 seeds and had 100% germination within one week! Would definitely recommend this company and the free shipping is just the icing on the cake!
I recently placed my first order with this company and just received it. Overall, I don't find their selections to be too out of the ordinary, but they do have a well rounded selection of annuals, perennials/biennials, veg/herbs.
They do have a rather interesting selection of hollyhock seeds, including some unusual colors and some dwarf varieties. They also have seed for some quite lovely mallow (which they refer to as "zebra hollyhock" (I ordered the 'zebrina'), along with some other last minute odds and ends.
Another thing I liked about the company is that there are no handling/shipping or other hidden charges. What the total of the seeds cost is what you pay.
Assuming the germ rate on these seeds I just received is good, I'd order from them again.
I will say that the order took about a week and a half, so place your orders early if you need your seeds right away.
I have ordered twice now with this company and each order has arrived quickly and well-packed. I am impressed by several things. First, most of the seed packages include a huge number of seeds- several times larger than you would be able to buy in a traditional seed packet. There are varieties that have a limited number and this is clearly stated on the website. Secondly, of the varieties that I've started, I am getting a very good rate of germination. A couple of the ones that I was expecting a long slow germination period with a fairly low rate of germination from my past experience, have germinated in just one week, with nearly 100% sprouting!
With good customer service, good germination, and tons of seeds, what more could you ask for? Thank you Swallowtail Seeds!

Gardenwatchdog is such a great forum!
My best mail-order horticulture experience yet, has been Swallowtail seeds, in Spring 2002.
I was immediately intrigued by their eclectic seed selections and good prices. They were one of the few organizations offering Wormwood, (and other interesting varieties). I ordered Wormwood, Hyssop, and Monarda. All had good germination, with the Wormwood almost too high germination--the pots became overgrown too quickly for me to deal with.
Their shipping & handling charge was modest, which is rare among mail order companies. Also, while many companies act as though a personal check is an inconvenience, Swallowtail accepted my check & still delivered quickly.
I ordered from them because they are located nearby AND offered free shipping. The packaging is great, you get good value for money, and when one of my selections was sold out, they substituted something similar FOR FREE. Would order from them again in a heartbeat.

I ordered from Swallowtail this spring and was very pleased with the service, free shipping and seeds. I especially like their packaging. There is a lot of information on the front and inside the packets of some of the small seeds were glassine envelope to contain those seeds. I just placed another order with them today. Highly recommend!

Top-notch people & excellent seeds. The free shipping is very nice. I ordered from them for the first time this month & received my order quickly. I'm already having great results from seeds I started indoors on 1/28 (just 3 days ago). I recommend Swallowtail Garden Seeds very highly.

I have ordered seeds from these folks three times now and have been VERY happy with them. Everything that the two folks before me said is true AND SHIPPING IS FREE!!!! I hate it when I order a packet of seeds and get hit with a $3.95 shipping charge. Well, at Swallowtail, that won't happen to you. I will DEFINITELY order from them again and again and again. Be sure to check out those new apricot twist sunflowers they sell :-)
