I ordered 25 Giant Shirley Foxgoves for $34.99 at an end of season sale. Then I read the feedback at Dave's Garden and was a bit concerned with some of the negative feedback. No worries. The plants arrived just a few days after I placed my order on October 23. They were large, albeit somewhat rootbound but healthy otherwise. I wasted no time in planting them and they seem to be doing well. The only minor complaint I have is the packing: 10,000 peanuts are not necessary; crumpled up newspaper would have done the job nicely. I will definitely order from Hirt's again.
I placed an order with Hirt's on Tuesday October 6th 2009 and I received my order on Friday October 9th 2009 in excellent condition. The plants I ordered were 2 Bhut Jolokia
{Ghost Chili Peppers} I received 2 plants in 1, what a sweet deal I received 3 total for the price of 2. Thank you Hirt's, we will be doing business again! Donna, Ocala Florida
I have had a number of plants ordered from Hirt's. Tomato and pepper plants, a tree peony, and two oriental poppies. All arrived quickly, in great condition. The prices were great and the plants are growing and thriving.
I was late on starting my tomatoes this year, so I decided to try to order starts online. Was looking for a particular heirloom tomato that was my favorite of last summer, and I found it online at Hirt's at a pretty good price.
I ordered 8 different varieties of heirloom tomato starts from Hirt's through their Amazon store. I paid for standard shipping, but I received my package via USPS in 2 days! While some of the varieties were maybe only 2 inches tall, others were 4-5", so it balanced out. (Might have been disappointed if I'd only received one or two varieties and they'd all been on the small side, but as it is, I can't complain). Planted them out in larger pots the day I got them and out of the 36 plants that I received, only one did not make it. Not bad at all, and overall I'm very satisfied. Great prices and a great selection of heirloom varieties.

This was my first time ordering by mail and I did not know what to expect. The price could not be beat. My order of 16 heirloom tomato plants arrived in 5 days. I was surprised that they were crammed into an 8" by 8" inch box. The dirt was taped down and the plants were surrounded by styrofoam peanuts. The plants were big and appeared to be healthy enough to survive the shipping. A little water and a day of sun was all they needed.

I ordered from Hirt's on eBay. My plant was shipped within hours of the auction closing and arrived in three days. My plant was well packed, wrapped in newspaper and protected by styrofoam peanuts. I'm not a huge fan of those, and would suggest that Hirt's switch to the biodegradable kind. Other than that a fantastic experience.
I ordered online from Hirt's and got my merchandise in less than a week. My plants were in very good condition (butterfly weed) in little square pots, taped up so the soil and plants could not fall out.
I was really amazed with the rapid service since I had read negative comments about the company.

I've ordered just about everything from this company....thru ebay and amazon. All orders arrived with tape and peanuts as described in many reviews, and yes, that's annoying...but all of the seeds, plants etc. have grown and look beautiful AND I received within days of ordering.
I will say, that there were a few times when 1 or 2 plants looked like it wouldn't make it because of damage in shipping, but I baby everything in my garden, and all eventually took off with a little more tender loving care.
Simply put...I will continue to order from Hirt's!

The passionflowers I ordered arrived in a beat up old box but were in great condition. One pure species, which had like four buds on it, one hybrid that wasn't even considering blooming at the time. HUGE plants, much bigger than I had expected. One (the species one) suffered from a little shipping shock, but it bounced back after a month or two of TLC. The other (the hybrid) started blooming like crazy after about two weeks. I think it's underpotted now b/c it grew like crazy too, so it's not as happy as it was. I'll have to ASAP if I want it to do any better. Good quality passionflowers, but that's about all the experience I have with Hirt's so I guess I don't have much more to say.
I guess from all the negative reviews that this is a hit-or-miss company. Some things are good and some aren't. My experience has been all good though.
so far - I'm completely impressed by their customer service person, Pam. Congenial, informative, honest...and very concerned that my order reach me properly! Thank you.

I ordered a sugar and cream hoya plant online through Amazon and received my plant(s) three days later. Although I ordered only one plant, there were three individual plants in the pot. The plants where thriving and were well-packed with sufficiently adequate soil and moisture content.
Like the reviewer below, I was amazed when I got my two Viking Aronia plants in very good condition and with very quick delivery. I would risk maybe risk another order if I see this trend continuing. Maybe the bad reports are causing a change in business practices? We could hope so!
Either I was just lucky or lead a charmed life, but I had a GREAT experience with Hirt's. Package was shipped EXTREMELY fast, packing material was appropriate, and the plant, Meconopsis betonicifolia, seems healthy. I particularly liked the care sheet on Meconopsis, which was full of useful information. So, I would order again, based on this one experience.

Ladybugs arrived within a week of ordering. They were humanely packed and appeared very healthy, even on one of the hottest days this year. Enclosed instructions were thorough. The ladybugs are about to dine on scale and aphids. Chomp, buglets, chomp! And then go forth and multiply!
I ordered 4 plants from Hirts off Ebay, they arrived packaged safely and shipped promptly. All the plants were rather large for on-line plants and looked nice and healthy and have shown growth since being planted. Overall considering the other reviews here I have to say I was pleased with my purchases and would consider buying from them again.
I have ordered from Hirt's greenhouse's website and also eBay for the past 2-3 years. My experience with them has been nothing but positive. I ordered 2 live plants, which ended up dying, but due to mistakes of my own, not theirs. The plants arrived in great condition. Problem was, I had not grown anything like them before and ended up doing them in myself. I have ordered several different types of seeds from them as well. Right now, I have gazania growing and doing wonderfully. I have recently planted some more seeds I had purchased from there and will update on those at a later date.
I ordered picotee blue morning glory seeds from this company recently. It was the first time I heard of Hirts and thought I'd try them. The seeds arrived 4 days after my order. They were packed well and had good, very understandable planting instructions. i have started a few, so will see how well they germinate. If they do well, I definitly will order from them again!

I just got a Nepenthes ventricosa from them, and although it was below zero here and just above it there, it came in perfect condition. I also bought my Vanilla planifolia from them back before Christmas (again, horrible weather and even further south than where I am now), and it arrived in great shape. I think they are a great company once you get past the shipping ordeals some people have had with them.

Ordered four packs of vegetable seeds at a better price than almost all of the competitors. Got them in TWO DAYS! I got a few extra seeds of each and they were clearly labeled and packaged nicely.
I ordered a goldfish plant from Hirt's through Amazon. It arrived rather quickly but it looked pretty beat up when I opened the box. I followed the instructions that were enclosed and within 24 hours it looked good as new. I lost about 20 small leaves (out of maybe 200-300) and there were a couple of broken stems. I just popped the broken stems in a shot glass and they are already trying to sent out roots. I'm pretty happy and am looking forward to doing business with them again.
I just received my first order from them, some morning glory seeds. They arrived in a reasonable time and had culture instructions. I decided not to plant them, though, for a couple of months until danger of freezing in the Riverside, CA area is past.
Beautiful variegated Mother of thousand..vibrant colors and large in size. Shipping was super fast, and plant well-packaged. Considering this is the first time I've seen the variegated version, I consider it hard-to-find..Even though it's rare, the price was exceptional..Thanks, Hirt's...Toni

Received two beautiful episcias today from Hirts: Spearment Flame and Chocolate Cream..Each arrived in 4" pots; they're a lot larger than I expected for their prices.
Plants arrived a lot faster than I thought, especially since it's a holiday week. (Thanksgiving)
I also like the fact Hirts enclosed pots and Episcias in plastic since they dote on humidity. On March 11th, 2009, Toni05 added the following:
Received a Lace Leaf Aralia Tree today. Plant arrived in perfect condition. Stands 19" tall. Shipping was prompt, and plant well-packaged.
I didn't think to leave feedback for seeds ordered in January 2009.
Once again, shipping was quick, seeds labeled, and everything in order. No missing packs, no complications. Toni

I recently ordered from Hirt's Gardens for the second time. My plants (16 Serrano Peppers) arrived quickly and in great shape. Even better, the plants were advertised as 4" high but were more than 12" and already flowering. I know some people have had bad experiences, but my two transactions have been good.

I purchased Chicago Hardy fig from one of their eBay auctions and it arrived quickly and safely packed (there was even tape over the pot to keep the dirt in it - I've received many plants from others in the mail with dirt spilled all over the box)
I found this company by doing an ebay search for a particular plant that I was having trouble finding elsewhere. They had a good ebay rating, so I took a chance and am really glad that I did. I have never before received such nice plants in such good shape. They were very large, very healthy, very well packaged (not even a crinkled leaf) and arrived in record time. I couldn't believe my eyes. Because I was so thrilled with this order, I came on specifically to look for Hirt's Greenhouse so I could leave a good rating here too and am totally blown away by the negative experiences. Maybe I was just lucky, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and will try them again.
Out of my 5-plant order through their Amazon.com storefront, 2 were wrong. I ordered Cyperus alternifolia (Umbrella Plant) @ 2/$5.99 total, and got 2 Darmera peltata (Umbrella Plant) @ $5.99/ea. These weren't the plants I wanted, but the error was in my favor, and the cost to ship them back is more than my original $5.99 I paid. Sooooo, I guess I'll keep them.
Just beware that maybe items aren't what they are supposed to be.
Shipping was really quick; 3 days from when I ordered to when I received them.

April 2007, I ordered the double pink coneflower from them because my expensive root from Parks Seed dyed after about 3 weeks, Hirts sent me a very nice potted double coneflower, which now has a bud. The red one they sent came with two buds, I also the following weeks ordered some of their daylillys, everything was just fine. Also when the plants arrived on a Wed, I didnt have time to plant them so I just set them in window sill till weekend came.
I will gladly oder from Hirts Garden and no more from Parks.

this is my 4th order with them. 3rd one this year arrived today. in absolute PERFECT condition. and i'm a FREAK about what i consider excellent condition. the last order they left one thing out and sent me one wrong plant. the customer service was excellent. they told me to keep the plant (which was beautiful but not ordered by me) and immediately sent me the correct plant which was so beautiful i couldn't believe it??? so are we talking about the same people here...or am i just lucky?? because all 4 of my orders where perfect and every time i spoke with customer service they were excellent?? i also puchased some bushes from them. i expect these tiny little things for the price they were asking. but instead i rec'd large beautiful healthy plants.
well, i can only be honest about my experience and certainly no one elses. but i wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again.

I ordered from them last year and had no problems, I ordered again this year, just got the bulbs, all carefully packaged with detailed planting guides, it's still snowing here so I can't plant them just yet, but if last year was any indicator, these bulbs will be just as nice.
I read the negatives here, but they had a daylily (spacecoast scrambled) on ebay that I couldn't find anywhere else at an afforable price and I just had to have it ~LOL~.
I had the protection of paying via paypal and Hirt's has great ratings on ebay so I took a chance.
I was pleasently surprised to receive a nice double fan, packed well and shipped quickly. Now I wish I had made a multiple order to save shipping costs.
